Godfire: The Split Soul-Chapter 157: Kneel Before I Take Your Life
On the second day at the Vamus College, Kai kept his head down as he walked through the central hall. He fixed his eyes just ahead of his shoes and walked at a careless pace.
He felt eyes drawn on him again, but dismissed it with a wink.
"Did you guys hear what happened between Hei Long and the new boy?" a girl leaning by the wall murmured the moment Kai walked past her.
She tapped on the shoulder of a fair girl standing by her side. "Hey, Cassy, that’s the new boy," Selina said, pointing a finger at the blue-and-black-haired boy.
"He brushed his palms on his cheeks as if the slap he received from Hei Long was just a mere touch."
"Are you sure? He looks like someone who would pick up a fight and win easily. Look at his body structure."
"Yeah, I was there. I saw him jump between Hei Long and the ex-girlfriend he dumped just a month ago."
Cassy stood there, her eyes opened wide. "Everyone knew Hei Long didn’t have any love for that girl. It was just because of her wealth."
Selina interrupted, "But you know Hei Long is wealthy too, right?"
"Yeah, I know, but not as wealthy as that bitch."
"Why call her a bitch?"
"She stole Hei Long from me, that’s why. She is a hoe, and everyone knows that too."
Kai turned his ears away from them, walked into his class, and seated himself calmly beside Tessa.
"Hey," he raised an arm and greeted her in a friendly gesture.
Tessa remained still, her head bowed as if glued to her open history book.
’Why is she not responding?’ Kai asked low in his thoughts, staring at Tessa’s still form.
He brushed it off, then concentrated on the lessons, from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Quantum Computing, and lastly, the Hunter Training Class.
When the lessons for the day were over, Tessa stood up as if she had a grudge against Kai, then walked out of the class without glancing at the boy.
’Am I now a stranger to her?’ Kai’s thoughts hammered against his skull as he watched her exit. "Well, everything has its purpose," he whispered low, then stood up, hoping to exit the class as well.
Just then, Tian Mo countered him. "Hey, Yung Chin, or whatever you call yourself." He looked at Kai with a devilish gaze.
"Never think of talking to that Tessa, not even looking at her." Tian Mo raised a finger to his own ear.
’What does he think he is?’ Kai thought, then smiled. "And what will happen if I do talk to her or look at her?" He raised his head and stared boldly.
’Is he trying to challenge me?’ Tian Mo laughed in his thoughts, then turned a silly expression to Hei Long and the other friends by the other side of the classroom.
"See this one." He turned from them, then back at Kai. "Do you know who I am and what I possess?"
’Should I even care about where I am currently, or just make him kneel?’ Kai thought, smiling at the boy. "I don’t give a fuck about what you are or what you possess."
Tian Mo’s face turned pale, as if the words had just ripped his essence apart. "What did you just say?" A black doom of light erupted from nowhere and wrapped around his arms as his heartbeat turned frantic.
There, in the eyes of Tian Mo, Kai saw Lieutenant Wang’s angry face. ’I don’t need to pretend anymore,’ he whispered in his thoughts, tightening the strap of his bag.
Tian Mo raised his right arm, the one with the black doom whirling around it, and pointed it at Kai’s chest.
"Kneel before I take your life," he commanded, his voice echoing loudly. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
’Kneel?’ Kai smiled, shaking his head. He closed his eyes, brushed his palms across his face, then stared back at Tian Mo. "Try me."
Kai said, spreading his arms at his sides, then closed his eyes again.
"WHOA!!!" noise stirred in the room as other students who hadn’t left yet stood up from their seats.
"What are you waiting for, Tian Mo?!"
"Let him know no new student gets enrolled in this school, especially this particular Hunter Training System!"
"He’s daring you! This boy must be really crazy." Another boy, who had just entered the room following the noise, said and began laughing heartily.
In the blink of an eye, Tian Mo’s fist clenched and moved like a lightning bolt toward Kai’s chest.
Sparks and bone-cracking vibrations filled the air and snaked through Kai as the fist hovered above his chest.
The light bulbs and the walls began to shake heavily, faces turning pale as the doom increased in size and weight.
But as if time had stopped only for him, when Kai cracked his eyes open, he saw the fist moving at a slow pace, slower than even that of a tortoise.
He looked at Tian Mo’s fair skin that kept darkening, the sparks radiating from his fist and eyes, and the sheer force the fist carried.
Kai ducked under the fist and gave Tian Mo a small tap. There, the time dilation collapsed, and the boy’s own force threw him forward, hitting his forehead against the wall closer to the open door.
Heavy laughter followed, creating anger that radiated in Tian Mo’s vibrations when he stood up and threw countless punches at the boy.
Through it all, Kai placed his palms at his back and ducked under the punches one after another. Every dodge of the fists sent a different expression through the atmosphere, especially among Tian Mo’s friends.
After thirty minutes, Tian Mo stopped, sweating profusely and panting heavily for air. In front of him, Kai stood there, not even a single bead of sweat erupting from his skin.
Hei Long tried to join the defiance but stopped when another figure burst through the door and screamed.
"Tian Mo!" The man wore a higher-rank uniform, different from all that Kai had seen ever since he set foot in the Central City.
"You two, in my office now!"
