God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World-Chapter 500: That’s Way Too Obvious!
"The Thornpath Healers program!"
Viscount Roster said four words that left everyone completely confused.
"The Thornpath Healers program—based on the medical knowledge and various medicines and potions that you all contribute after joining the project, we'll compile an effective guidebook."
"The Thornpath Healers guidebook won't be written like traditional medical books. It won't explain pharmacology or medicine-making. Everything will focus on problems."
"For example, if someone shows these symptoms and those symptoms, it's this disease, you need to use this medicine, or perform these treatments, observe for this long, and if it doesn't work, then use this medicine..."
"Everything revolves around the patient's symptoms—clear, straightforward, simple to follow. When necessary, these Thornpath Healers can even treat patients while literally reading from the book."
Ignoring the commotion in the venue, Viscount Roster continued, "I know what you're going to say—that using this method means a certain rate of misdiagnosis."
"You might even think this is reckless with people's lives, because in your view, these Thornpath Healers don't even count as real doctors."
"And honestly, that's true."
"But you can't deny that without people like this, things would only get more complicated. Without medicine, most of these people would die from their illnesses anyway. Even with these medicines available, most of them wouldn't know how to take them properly, so they wouldn't buy them, and the outcome wouldn't change."
"But with Thornpath Healers around, they can use the books we've written to handle different situations differently and provide options for buying medicines."
"Sure, their misdiagnosis rate might be way higher than yours, because they haven't gone through the long years of study you have."
"But compared to the current situation, having Thornpath Healers around will dramatically improve survival rates."
"More importantly, we can quickly train a bunch of Thornpath Healers and have them spread across the entire continent, covering everyone. It's an effective way to buy time."
"To address your concerns, we can also prepare more detailed medical books and other materials."
"Then we tell these Thornpath Healers that right now, being a Thornpath Healer is just a temporary solution for an emergency situation. In a few years, we'll start using regular doctors."
"We tell them that if they study these medical books more, they'll have a better chance of becoming official doctors."
"That way they'll feel a sense of urgency and naturally study more advanced knowledge. Gradually, problems like misdiagnosis rates will work themselves out."
Hearing Viscount Roster's words, the voices of opposition gradually died down.
Gotta say, Viscount Roster had a point.
These Thornpath Healers, no matter how problematic they were, no matter how high their misdiagnosis rate—that was only compared to the professionals. What about compared to ordinary commoners?
After ordinary commoners got sick, they either looked for the professionals or just toughed it out with their bodies.
No doubt about it, these Thornpath Healers were way better than that.
No matter how high the misdiagnosis rate, these people's chances of survival would still be much better.
At the same time, wasn't this actually a good thing?
If there really was a crash-course version of doctors who could replace them with the same misdiagnosis rate, how would they make a living?
Would churches not need to recruit believers anymore?
Would famous doctors not need to eat?
If just anyone could replace them, how would they get by?
Now they were fast-tracking a bunch of people whose target demographic wasn't their clients in the first place.
Those people wouldn't have come to them when sick anyway.
Their target customers would still come to them.
Because they knew these Thornpath Healers had high misdiagnosis rates, and people with some assets cared more about their lives.
What would happen was pretty obvious.
Their status wouldn't be affected at all. The books they wrote and medicines they made would reach a broader audience, and their reputation would increase.
Heck, some people with a decent amount of wealth might even seek them out based on that reputation, giving them the chance to earn even more.
And later on, gradually increasing requirements for these people to study made their consciences feel better too.
For a moment, everyone thought this plan was actually pretty good.
And on stage, Viscount Roster said with a smile, "Besides what I just mentioned, we have some other measures too."
"Like the sources for these Thornpath Healers—we're planning to draw from four areas."
"The first group is medical families. Their ancestors have been in the medical field for generations. These people have been steeped in this information since childhood. Even if they didn't become doctors or couldn't inherit the family business, they're still excellent candidates."
"Having these people become Thornpath Healers means they can get up to speed faster and come up with effective action plans."
Quite a few people from medical families in the audience nodded in strong agreement. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
In their families, there were often countless children like this—their talent was limited, so they might not become renowned doctors and naturally couldn't inherit the family business.
Gradually, they'd enter other industries, like sourcing medicinal materials, or using those sourcing channels to buy other things and do business...
But no doubt about it, you could easily find suitable people by screening through them.
"The second group comes from the various churches—could even be clerics from churches with healing services."
"More medicines will be sent to various places. If the clerics from your churches and the staff at local church locations are willing, you'll get up to speed even faster and more easily sell some medicines."
"If you're constrained by church rules, you can even do examinations inside the church and have a nearby pharmacy outside the church sell the medicines."
This statement from Viscount Roster was way too obvious.
Basically, he was telling them: if your church rules don't let you sell medicines inside the church, we can control a shop outside where we can sell them.
That way you get around your church rules.
And you'll get more people thanking your church.
Who knows, you might even get way better publicity from this.
No charge for the diagnosis, charge for the medicine outside—isn't that building up your reputation?
"Besides that, we can also do short-term training to train a large batch of people. And the last channel is self-study."
Viscount Roster continued, "I know this sounds irresponsible, but using our handbook, self-study should also achieve pretty decent results."
"At the very least, it'll definitely be better than commoners who've never had any exposure."
"Unfortunately, the literacy rate is still kind of low right now, otherwise things would go a lot smoother."
