Chapter 409: The Camps Start Expanding

"Clear this area and prepare for the airdrop!"

A combat cleric stepped forward, looked at the plain ahead, and gave the order directly.

During previous battles, some people had stood out and caught Wolf General’s attention. He was one of them.

These chosen individuals each led a thousand-person squad, heading off in different directions.

All future supplies, as well as new Tech Combat Clerics, would be airdropped north of the watch wall. Through continuous warfare, expansion, and selection, they’d be distributed in batches to different teams, constantly growing stronger.

You could say that as long as you performed well, you’d get a piece of the next expansion.

One becomes two, two becomes four, four becomes eight—the number of commanders needed would keep climbing, and naturally, so would the number of Tech Combat Clerics required.

Under normal circumstances, if you asked people to go north of the watch wall, nobody would be willing. But after watching the combat livestreams of the Tech Combat Clerics, who knows how many people were already tempted.

There probably wasn’t a safer way to earn glory anywhere in the world.

So far, not a single Tech Combat Cleric had died. Hell, not one had even been injured. But the enemy? Who knew how many had died—enemies couldn’t even get close to them.

You barely had to face any enemies directly, but your achievements would be written into the history books. When people found out your family had someone serving as a combat cleric in the Church of Technology, they’d show you some respect...

How could there be such a sweet deal in the world? How could people not want in?

At the very least, all those nobles and lords were dying to get their kids into the program.

That way, at minimum, the Church of Technology wouldn’t drop a massive legendary magic conductor bomb on their estate.

After all, in a sense, they’d be one of their own now.

As for ordinary folks—in most territories and cities, regular people’s lives were incredibly hard. If they could become part of the Church of Technology and never have to worry about food again, how could they not be tempted?

Recruitment was a breeze.

They could even be picky, screening out people who were truly suited for the Church of Technology.

As the orders came down, both new and veteran Church of Technology members sprang into action.

Their coordination wasn’t exactly seamless, but it was smooth enough.

With a single command, several legendary magic spells were launched.

Countless waves of heat appeared instantly.

Against these ice spirits, fire-attribute magic could often unleash even more devastating power.

Massive heat waves and the ashes from countless ice spirit corpses danced through the air, but couldn’t affect anyone.

After about an hour, huge boxes appeared in the sky, equipped with parachutes that made them descend very slowly.

All these boxes were inscribed with wind-attribute shield runes, so they could block out the heat waves and any other potentially harmful stuff.

"Airdrop in position! All units advance! Prepare for ambush!"

At those words, all the Tech Combat Clerics moved toward the plain.

After confirming the area was secure, they didn’t immediately open the boxes. Instead, they scattered more magic conductors on the ground and in the sky.

Soon, a fierce storm swept in, clearing away the damage from the surrounding flames and all the ash left behind by the burned ice spirits. Wood-element and earth-element magic conductors completely repaired and hardened the surrounding ground into one massive stone slab. Only then did the Tech Combat Clerics breathe a sigh of relief.

Afterward, everyone took their positions and began following the plan. Some started building defensive fortifications, others set up necessary magic conductors, some were responsible for establishing the camp and setting up tents and preparing food, while others began opening the boxes, taking out the contents, and sorting them.

These supplies included food, weapons, magic conductors, as well as maintenance tools and replacement parts for wear items.

With the original position as the core, another base was rapidly being established in a roughly symmetrical location.

Compared to them, the other base seemed a bit safer.

They weren’t in a plain area but rather in a mountain range with many gaps. They only needed to guard a few chokepoints to ensure nothing would go wrong.

But precisely because of this, their situation was actually kind of awkward.

Some large-scale magic conductors couldn’t be used. For example, if they used Blazing Prairie, the flames would be contained by the surrounding peaks and might threaten them instead. So they could only set up more precise defenses targeting each individual gap.

"Sir, we’ve cleared everything!"

An ordinary Tech Combat Cleric quickly stepped forward to report the current situation. "We’re already running a bit behind. Should we start building right away?"

"Our route wasn’t easy—being delayed a bit is normal. Start construction now. Remember to set up some automated attack equipment on the cliff walls. If they work properly, most ice spirits won’t even be able to leave the canyon."

Just as he was saying this, there was suddenly some movement in the nearby ruins.

The next moment, an ice spirit with only half its body left burst out from the rubble, twisting its body and charging toward them frantically, looking incredibly fierce.

The sudden change caught some Tech Combat Clerics off guard, but how could the person leading a base, someone carefully selected as a captain, be that simple?

Before anyone else could react, he’d already raised his arm. A ray shot out from his hand, hitting the ghoul’s head and blasting it to pieces.

Several more rays followed in quick succession, completely tearing the ice spirit apart.

"Alright, everyone be careful. These ice spirits have incredibly strong vitality. That’s exactly why we mainly use fire-element magic conductors—flames are better at turning them to ash and making sure they’re completely dead."

"Even if you cut them in half and they’ve lost their heads, they can still attack. Everyone needs to watch out."

"Don’t rush the camp construction. Take it slow. Make sure every single remnant has completely disappeared."

"Yes, Captain! We understand!" A combat cleric immediately responded loudly.

They were newcomers. By the time they arrived north of the watch wall, the old base had already become very stable, with almost no ice spirit remains left behind. These newcomers naturally didn’t understand ice spirits very well.

But in this moment, they finally realized why these ice spirits were contained rather than completely eliminated.

Trying to completely wipe them out was just too difficult.

"Alright, hurry up and go. Stay safe." The captain waved his hand. He believed that once these people got more familiar with their magic conductors and fought a few more battles, they’d adapt to this treacherous battlefield.
