God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World-Chapter 369: Promotion Problems
Golden Spike Grain was extremely important.
You could even say it would directly affect the future population of the entire continent.
But promoting it wasn’t gonna be easy.
Farmers tended to stick to what they knew. Very few would be willing to take a risk and plant something new.
If farmers were like that, forget about the nobles who controlled vast amounts of land.
If farmers’ yields dropped and they didn’t have enough left over after taxes, they could starve to death. Even knowing that, not many were willing to take the risk and make sudden changes. And the nobles?
If they took a risk switching crops and it failed, they’d lose a whole year’s income. They wouldn’t be able to keep throwing parties or invite as many nobles. Their social activities would take a hit, maybe even drain their resources.
But if they didn’t change anything, they’d still live happily, just like they had for hundreds, even thousands of years. No difference at all.
Promoting new crops was even harder than promoting magic-tech industrial equipment.
Viscount Roster had known this from the start, which is why he’d been working with the Church of Agriculture to plant on a large scale in the southern territory.
Once the Golden Spike Grain planted in the south consistently produced yields above 1,500 pounds per acre—with an average of 1,600 pounds per acre being totally normal—naturally some people would be willing to try planting small batches. Then the people around them would see it really worked, and eventually the word would spread.
But how exactly should they promote Golden Spike Grain?
That was also a technical challenge.
If he used his media empire and the credibility of his various companies as a guarantee, plus the backing of the Church of Agriculture, it would definitely spread quickly. But with that approach, not everyone would necessarily believe it.
So Viscount Roster had planned a whole promotional campaign. And wouldn’t you know it, this happened to coincide with the magic-powered vehicle factory about to launch and sales about to begin. Perfect timing for them to work together.
Starting by showcasing Golden Spike Grain from different perspectives would definitely help with the follow-up promotion.
As the convoy moved forward, viewers kept coming and going from the livestream. But overall, the viewer count never dropped below three million. During peak times it started at five or six million, with eight million being pretty normal.
They’d basically attracted half of all Magic Net users.
The whole world seemed to be watching this thing.
But in Roster territory, things were different.
The wild mage and his apprentice, the inventors of the magic-powered vehicle, had finally finished their long business trip.
Under their guidance, Foster Iron Mine had now entered a stable phase.
The Foster Iron Mine, once buried deep underground, had been directly transformed into an open-pit mine by Ren, the God of Technology, using his divine authority.
Professional magic-tech equipment worked even better in the open-pit mine. Blasting, loading, transporting—every step of the process could be completed with magic-tech machinery. The local miners no longer needed to risk their lives doing manual labor. They just needed to operate the magic-tech equipment.
On top of that, the excavation plan had been finalized. Similar to the open-pit mines Ren had seen in his previous life, they’d dig outward and deeper from a central point, eventually forming a huge spiral road that could lead directly to the depths—kind of like a mountain highway.
The excavated ore would be transported to the smelting area nearby.
Compared to traditional steel-making methods, the smelting area that the wild mage and his team had transformed now had a pretty industrial feel to it.
Massive blast furnaces connected to even more massive self-charging arrays. The iron ore was fed in, and magic power was converted through specialized runes into incredibly intense heat. Through a series of operations, steel could be produced.
Just one blast furnace could produce what used to take several years, and they’d already built dozens of these furnaces in a short time.
But even so, neither the wild mage’s team nor the shareholders behind Foster Iron Mine and Foster Mining Company were satisfied. They wanted to keep expanding production.
New-style housing was great and all, but it needed tons of steel.
Magic-powered vehicles were developing smoothly, but they needed tons of steel too.
And so on and so forth. There were just too many places that needed steel—new-style housing, magic-powered vehicles, all kinds of magic-tech machinery, all kinds of weapons and equipment, all kinds of everyday tools...
It really gave everyone the illusion that no matter how much steel they produced, it could all be absorbed.
And honestly, that was pretty much the truth.
Industrialization sometimes just came down to energy output and steel output.
Of course, the foundation had been laid, and all the basic knowledge had been passed on to some of the people in charge at Foster Iron Mine. The wild mage and his apprentice naturally couldn’t keep staying there—especially after they’d finalized the breeding of those special worm creatures.
If things went as expected, before long, whether it was that special slime or steel, they’d have an endless supply of both.
Looking at the familiar laboratory, the wild mage actually had this surreal feeling, like he’d been gone forever. "We were only away for a few dozen days. How does it feel like this place has changed so much?"
"Our lab has only been established for how long? A few dozen days is already a long time." The apprentice smiled. "Just wondering how the other projects are doing now. Have they come up with anything new?"
"Don’t they post their progress in the work chat every day? Haven’t you been reading it?" The wild mage glanced at his apprentice. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
They’d been working together for so long that he naturally knew this guy would rather spend his free time watching videos about trimming donkey hooves than check the work chat.
A lot of times he’d straight-up ignore meeting notifications, and then when it was time for the meeting, this important person would just be absent.
At first, he even suspected other people were targeting him. Later he realized the guy had just ignored it himself.
"Really? No, I mean, what if—on top of the stuff they report in the group chat—there’s a chance they took on some side projects and invented some weird stuff? Or maybe they wanted to surprise us and deliberately didn’t tell us?"
The apprentice smiled. "I feel like they’re totally capable of doing something like that."
As he spoke, the apprentice walked toward the laboratory.
Then, the instant he touched the lab door, he stumbled and almost fell to the ground.
He’d gone straight through the laboratory door!
What the hell was going on?
"If you spent less time yapping and just used your magic power to look around, you’d know. Oh wait, I forgot—you’re still just a mage apprentice." The wild mage squinted slightly. "If I’m not mistaken, everything around us is an illusion. Something like... a projection!"
