Chapter 393: Chapter 393: Abyss City Residents

The residents of Abyss City and people like Gu Chengfeng summoned various masks, and as soon as they wore them, their bodies and appearances underwent tremendous transformations.

The soldiers under Gu Chengfeng transformed fairly uniformly, while the transformations among the residents of Abyss City were quite varied, almost without any pattern.

Gu Chengfeng gritted his teeth and had his soldiers defend the city alongside the residents, but the collapse was quicker than imagined.

The Demon Corps used pets as the vanguard, and the moment they charged up the city walls, the line of defense was already scattered. In the ensuing chaos, pets were continuously killed by demons and their pets.

Even the soldiers under Gu Chengfeng couldn’t stabilize the situation and were scattered directly.

If it weren’t for the Pet Corps holding the front line and buying time with their lives, the city would have already fallen.

The strength of these demons was terrifying, and with one assault, a large number of pets had fallen.

Abyss City did have quite a few powerful Cultivators, but under such an onslaught by the corps, the strength of individual Cultivators was too limited.

Everyone was utterly disheartened; before engaging, there was still a glimmer of hope in their hearts. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

But now, after truly facing them, they realized the demons were far more terrifying than imagined; at the same level, demons almost had an overwhelming advantage.

In terms of power, speed, and the depth of Primordial Energy, they far surpassed human Cultivators of the same level.

Each demon seemed like a prodigy among humans, killing ordinary Cultivators as easily as killing chickens, causing the defeat to come so swiftly.

Moreover, their military formation was more organized than humans, and their battle array was much more practiced.

If it weren’t for the pets blocking the front, the soldiers and residents defending the city might have already half perished.

"Demons...have they become this formidable..." The old priest looked ashen, as he fought desperately, but could not turn the tide.

"It’s over!" Gu Chengfeng realized the general trend was unstoppable, and Abyss City couldn’t possibly hold out even for an hour. He feared they all would die here today.

Suddenly, a pink Sword Rainbow flew from the city tower, across the void, striking towards the rear commander of the opposing camp, and in a flash, it was before that demon commander.

The Peach Blossom Sword was as indomitable as it was unsurpassed, taking heads amidst a thousand troops as easily as taking something out of a bag.

The demon commander, mounted on a six-hoofed demon beast, didn’t show any intention of dodging the lightning-like Peach Blossom Sword. A black dragon-shaped pet roared out from his body, reaching out a dragon claw that surprisingly caught the Peach Blossom Sword.

The Peach Blossom Sword trembled in the dragon claw, seemingly unable to break free.

But in the next second, the Peach Blossom Sword abruptly broke loose, piercing through the black body, transforming into a pink Sword Rainbow, flying back to Jin Taohua’s hand.

A large hole was pierced through the black dragon’s body, but black smoke swirled within, quickly repairing itself.

"The world’s number one female demon, Jin Taohua, truly lives up to her reputation." The commander waved his hand, and the flag bearer behind him waved the battle flag, surprisingly ordering the Demon Corps to temporarily cease their assault.

Watching the demons retreat with their pets like a tide, Gu Chengfeng and the others were bewildered, unsure of what the demon commander intended.

Demons always prioritized slaughter, leaving no life in their wake, not even sparing survivors.

But today this demon commander was somewhat odd, not only training the Demon Corps with precise retreats and advances but also stopping the attack at such a crucial moment to converse with Jin Taohua.

Jin Taohua also ordered the Blood Spirit troops to temporarily cease fighting, coldly looking at the demon commander, saying: "Did you only realize today?"

The demon commander was first taken aback, then burst into laughter: "Jin Taohua is indeed Jin Taohua, truly unmatched by those trash humans. You are an exceptionally outstanding human, like us demons, both a more highly evolved human. If you’re willing, you can return with me. Humans may not accept you, but we demons are willing to accept you."

"What is your name?" Jin Taohua asked the demon commander.

"Feng Zhantian of Wind Demon City." The demon commander replied arrogantly.

"Feng Zhantian, you have good vision." Jin Taohua said indifferently.

Feng Zhantian laughed, but before he could speak, Jin Taohua continued: "Unfortunately, in my eyes, demons and other humans are the same, all trash of extremely low evolutionary level, with no difference."

Feng Zhantian’s expression changed slightly, and the demon warriors were furious, ready to request to slaughter the city and mince Jin Taohua into meat paste.

Chen Guan, following behind Jin Taohua, noticed despite the demon warriors’ anger, they didn’t act without orders, feeling a bit surprised.

It was rumored that demons were inherently bloodthirsty, unable to control their emotions, making it difficult to form a cohesive fighting force; it was just their nature.

However, witnessing these demons, though incredibly fierce, they clearly had the capability for corps-level combat, somewhat different from legends, even more terrifying.

Feng Zhantian surprisingly restrained his ferocity, no longer looked at Jin Taohua, turning his gaze to the old priest on the city wall: "Old priest, you are also a demon, you should be familiar with our demon temperament, and you understand the people of Abyss City have long been considered unlike humanity. Bring them under my command, and I can let you continue living in Abyss City, let you live better than before, with the respect you deserve."

Chen Guan was somewhat surprised, not expecting the old priest to be a demon.

"Whether one is a demon is not determined by appearance, but by belief. Although I have a demon’s body, I am still human." The old priest said.

Feng Zhantian laughed mockingly: "You see yourself as human, but will others view you as human? Not just you, everyone in Abyss City, even if not in demon form, has endless ties with demons. They have already been forsaken by humans, let alone you, a real demon."

"Old priest, why bother sticking your warm face to their cold behinds, isn’t it better to be a free and unrestrained demon? Why serve humans as a slave and yet be unaccepted?"

Feng Zhantian’s gaze swept over the city wall, seeing Gu Chengfeng, he continued: "You are Gu Chengfeng, right? Tell him, do the people of the City of No Tears regard the people of Abyss City as human?"

"They are naturally all human." Gu Chengfeng’s heart skipped a beat, not expecting the demon Feng Zhantian to even know his name, showing there must be spies in the City of No Tears.

Feng Zhantian said disdainfully: "Hypocritical humans, if they truly considered them human, they wouldn’t have left them in Abyss City."

"Humanity originally built Abyss City to exile those born in the Secret Realm, isolating them from the world, letting them fend for themselves. Rather than saying it’s where criminals live, it’s more that they’re tragic parents, all they wanted was a child, and what was wrong with that?"

Feng Zhantian looked at the dwellings atop the city gate, continuing: "Those people killed your children, exiled you here, making you live neither as humans nor as ghosts. They’re your true enemies, you shouldn’t be at odds with me, we should be friends standing together."

Feng Zhantian’s words shook many of the residents of Abyss City.

Indeed, as Feng Zhantian said, those exiled to Abyss City weren’t criminals but ordinary Cultivators who violated the rule against giving birth in the Secret Realm by having children there.
