God of Pets-Chapter 390: The Great Battle Approaches
Chen Guan took just over a day to fully digest the Devil Angel’s finger, a speed that both surprised and delighted Jin Taohua.
Chen Guan’s rapid absorption rate proved his potential, further solidifying Jin Taohua’s resolve to nurture him.
Another Devil Angel’s finger was given to Chen Guan, and this time he managed to absorb its energy in only half a day.
Although Chen Guan did not acquire a Secret Skill, he felt his body becoming more solid, his energy increasing, and his Level noticeably elevated.
However, Blood Spirits themselves did not operate by levels, so there was no exact level ranking, and Chen Guan could only sense his own strength growing, unable to determine his exact level.
Chen Guan felt that his own blood energy could now compare to a Five Awakened Cultivator, although he lacked the various Divine Powers of a Five Awakened Cultivator.
Jin Taohua continued to observe Chen Guan with apprehension while also awaiting the third day’s arrival.
In the final hour of the third day’s limit, a team of over a thousand people from the City of No Tears arrived at Abyss City.
The team was led by a young man named Gu Chengfeng, who was the fourth son of Gu Xunfeng.
Gu Xunfeng gave him this name in the hope that Gu Chengfeng would ride the winds and rise high, achieving great things.
Gu Chengfeng did not disappoint; not yet thirty, he had already become a Sixth Awakening Cultivator.
Although this achievement was the result of numerous poured resources and family support, Gu Chengfeng himself was indeed outstanding and did not let expectations down.
"Please let me meet Jin Taohua." Gu Chengfeng stood with his team outside the city, not yet received into the city.
This alarmed the previously joyful residents of Abyss City, prompting them to quickly find someone to invite Jin Taohua.
"Are you the one who wishes to see me?" Jin Taohua, atop the city gate tower, looked down at Gu Chengfeng below and spoke.
"I am Gu Chengfeng, and Gu Xunfeng is my father," Gu Chengfeng stated, staring at Jin Taohua.
"Are you here to defend the city, or to avenge your father?" Jin Taohua asked with interest.
"To defend the city," Gu Chengfeng replied.
"If you’re here to defend the city, then enter and do what you must," Jin Taohua said, turning to leave.
It mattered little to her whether Gu Chengfeng hated or feared her, as long as he helped defend the city.
"We can help defend the city, but there are things that need to be clarified in advance," Gu Chengfeng called out to Jin Taohua before continuing, "We will only help this time; afterward, Abyss City’s fate will have no further connection to the City of No Tears, and you must not coerce us again."
"Agreed." Jin Taohua never expected the City of No Tears to constantly assist in defending the city.
"Additionally, after we drive the Demons away, I want to challenge you," Gu Chengfeng said, his eyes fixed sharply on Jin Taohua.
"If you wish for death, naturally no one will stop you," Jin Taohua retorted and turned to leave.
Gu Chengfeng said nothing, leading his troops to take up residence in Abyss City. Among this thousand-strong team, nearly a tenth were Sixth Awakening Cultivators, a common configuration for the City of No Tears’ garrison forces.
As the days passed, the sightings of Demons near Abyss City grew increasingly frequent, causing many residents who ventured out to hunt for Secret Spirits to mysteriously disappear, stirring panic.
Abyss City enacted a complete lockdown, forbidding residents from leaving and bracing for the Demon assault.
Chen Guan had been absorbing the Devil Angel during these days, and as his level rose, his absorption rate quickened. Initially, he estimated that it would take at least two to three months to devour a Sixth Awakening Devil Angel.
Yet now it seemed that half a month would suffice.
Chen Guan eagerly anticipated finding out what kind of Secret Skill he would obtain once he completely consumed the Devil Angel.
Beyond refining Blood Spirits, Jin Taohua put him into the Blood Spirit Banner each night as he attempted to use the Spirit of the Cheerleaders to motivate those Blood Spirits.
Only when those Blood Spirits grew stronger would Jin Taohua, in her desperate struggles, have a better chance of survival.
The initial attempts were unsuccessful, as these Blood Spirits had lost autonomous awareness, making verbal encouragements ineffective.
Blood Spirits and Secret Spirit Pets were different. Though pets, Secret Spirit Pets had their own awareness, giving some power to the Spirit of the Cheerleaders.
No matter what Chen Guan said to the Blood Spirits, they showed no response.
Naturally, Chen Guan was unwilling to give up easily, so he continued trying.
While the Spirit of the Cheerleaders wasn’t strictly verbal stimulation, certain soul-touching actions could also be effective.
However, these required the stimulated lifeform to have self-awareness first.
Unfortunately, these Blood Spirits lacked such conditions, rendering the Spirit of the Cheerleaders ineffective.
Until Chen Guan completely refined and absorbed the Devil Angel, acquiring his Secret Skill.
After absorbing the Devil Angel’s final part, golden light patterns spontaneously emerged within Chen Guan’s Blood Spirit Body, spreading all over him and closely resembling the previous Devil Angel’s golden light patterns.
Jin Taohua, watching Chen Guan adorned in golden light patterns, felt quite pleased. Her cultivation plan was now complete in its first step, and she could proceed with refining the second Secret Skill.
As Jin Taohua observed Chen Guan, she noted that absorbing the Devil Angel’s energy made him more defined, his contours and features appearing more three-dimensional, sufficient to discern his appearance.
Jin Taohua watched for a while, found Chen Guan’s looks decent but unfamiliar, and didn’t dwell on them.
After returning Chen Guan to the Blood Spirit Banner, Jin Taohua pondered which Secret Skill to initially impart to number 6.
With such absorption speed, number 6 was progressing incredibly fast, almost unbelievably so.
However, it would take at least ten days to refine the second Secret Skill, a timeline unlikely to complete before the Demons attacked Abyss City.
Jin Taohua pondered for a moment before choosing to first equip number 6 with a Body Protection Divine Skill, hoping to complete it before the Demons arrived, providing number 6 some self-preservation ability during her use of the Blood Spirit Banner, preventing death amid chaos.
The chosen Blood Spirit for Jin Taohua’s selection turned out to be the very Blood Bull Chen Guan had chosen previously.
The Blood Bull was also Level 60, though not a World-Defying Secret Spirit, but rather a unique Secret Spirit conventionally named "Blood Burst Ancient Desolate Bull." While not a top-tier Sixth Awakened Secret Spirit, it boasted a unique Body Protection Secret Skill known as the "Blood Burst Divine Skill."
This Blood Burst Divine Skill meshed seamlessly with a Blood Spirit, yet it wasn’t a traditional Body Protection Divine Skill.
