God of Money: Reincarnated as the Weakest SSS Rank-Chapter 66: The Man in the Yellow Straw Hat
Chapter 66: The Man in the Yellow Straw Hat
"1 hour, 23 minutes, and 13 seconds!" He shouted again.
And it wasn’t a record that was broken by just one horse, the 2nd one still did it quite a bit faster than the previous first one, as he was 7 seconds later at the finish line.
The previous record stood at exactly 1 hour 33 minutes. It was terrific when someone made it, but they were beaten by practically 10 full minutes here.
Miss Evergreen and her older brother smiled.
"Looks like we’ll take the record this time." She said, looking toward one of the bleachers on the other side.
At that moment, the person running that area was looking at her, so they both exchanged glances.
That person belonged to the north, and the last time they came here, they managed to break the record set by the Evergreens. Because of that, they were in a constant fight, but being humiliated by losing the record at home, naturally, the rivalry increased.
And in the end, they regained the record again, this time in a time over the limit.
The analysts speculated that the minimum time to complete this race should be between 1 hour and 25 minutes.
They even beat that analysis by 2 full minutes.
Naturally, those on the other side were in shock.
’It’s not even the final where horses from all regions will compete, but these guys seem ahead of the curve already.’ Thought the man staring at Evergreen.
She didn’t hold his gaze; she deemed it unnecessary.
Instead, they focused on looking at the next horses.
The next three arrived 30 minutes later.
Rebecca was thrilled to see that, among those three, was hers.
Louis’s, too, though.
"They’re pretty even." He spoke.
She smiled. "But it still looks like I’ll lose."
"Despite that, you don’t seem upset or worried."
"As long as I can come in fourth right now, I’m confident for the final."
"Will you be participating too?"
"Of course. My father will also bring his superstar."
"Sounds like it’s going to be exciting." He smiled, and his smile got even wider when he saw the horse he was betting 5 billion on come in third.
"Looks like this win is on me, again."
Rebecca’s horse arrived just 30 seconds later. Although she sighed at losing 5 billion, she still looked happy to see her competitor do so well.
Then, 1 minute later, came the 5th, which also made Louis smile.
Thus, the sixth, seventh, and ninth brought him great joy. Things had gone too well for him.
Because he had put a lot of money on all those horses of unknown houses.
Unfortunately, the one that came in 4th was Rebecca’s, and he had bet that the one that came in 8th would come in 4th, so he had a loss there, but nothing serious.
Just a billion Jens.
Louis grabbed the money cards when the 10th competitor came in and patted Rebecca on the shoulder.
"I’ll see you later, Miss Rebecca. I hope you don’t want to force me to bet this time."
"You go easy. You seem to have a better eye for betting than I do, so I’ll leave you alone for now. Next time I see you, I’ll collect the whole debt." She smiled.
Louis left shortly thereafter. There was something important to do.
In the main halls, the bookmakers had gathered. Ancient Moon was nowhere to be seen.
With the first 10 ready, all the bookmakers began to reveal the biggest bettors and the approximate amounts of their winnings.
The posters announcing them were pasted on a wall, where many people gathered, looking at them and wondering if they would enter these strange but prestigious groups of high rollers.
There were so many people crowded together that it was pretty challenging to see, but little by little, the people dispersed after seeing each of the papers, and those in the back could get closer to see.
Among those were the leaders of the House of Shadows and other important leaders of the scene, looking for their names.
But they were left with a startling revelation.
The people who occupied the first place in The House of Shadows, The Lost House, and the House of Theft, two lesser houses, were actually the same person.
The name seemed to shine above all, even though they didn’t have that function.
The Man in the Yellow Straw Hat.
This man came out as number 1 everywhere, which meant his winnings had to have been staggering. Only those near him in the rankings could imagine it.
People like...
Jackvin and Iseni, who were ranked 2nd and 5th, for example.
And among the people gathered watching everything, one man attracted a lot of attention.
The Man in the Yellow Straw Hat stood in the middle, looking at the results.
His figure from behind looked so carefree despite his big winnings, that he made most people make a hedge around him.
Jackvin and Iseni realized that he must be an important man who did not want to reveal his identity. A powerful man.
He had bet on the horse they had at a time when they hadn’t realized, perhaps he had done it at the last moment.
They suddenly perked up. They felt that, perhaps, they could get this man to look a little at the House of Shadows. A man as wealthy as he was, able to bet so heavily on slightly unknown horses, was the kind of person who tended to invest the most when he was interested in projects.
So they tried to get close enough to talk.
But they couldn’t.
In a second of carelessness, the man slipped through the people and was gone.
After seeing that, Louis returned to the bleachers, where Jessy and Dan, his uncle, were waiting for him.
"Young sir." Dan said, greeting him. He wore fairly ordinary clothes for his status because he didn’t want to be discovered.
He had run here during the night because he found out about that bastard who was looking to kill Louis. In fact, it was thanks to Dan finding him first that Louis could run away from the house that had already been marked as a target.
"Uncle, Jessy, this time it’s a big win." Louis said and then sat down next to them.
"How’s it going on your side?" He asked, looking at Dan.
"That guy looks like he’s given up already. He told me he could sign for the current price of the companies."
"Oh." Louis smiled and looked over to the area where the members of Ancient Moon were standing. "Looks like there’s going to be a big surprise soon."
"Do you want me to go confirm it, so he doesn’t run off before signing?"
Louis nodded. "I’ll have some fun here with Jessy. I’ll be back in the City during the night, and I want everything ready by tomorrow."
"Very well, Young Sir. I can’t be away from Velharthe for long, so I’ll return immediately." Then he left.
Louis and Jessy were left together in town. After watching the race, they went to a small party hosted by rich people. Then, they did a few laps in the city, playing gambling.
No one bothered Louis that day.
Mainly because...
He was dead.
