Chapter 84 -81: Training Banshee Scouts

Looking at Deirdre’s fearful expression, Da Fei felt a surge of affection. Even if there was a mistake, it was my mistake. How could I blame you?

Da Fei took the opportunity to pull Deirdre into his arms, calming her anxious heart and sighing, “It’s okay, it’s definitely not your fault. After all, the first Banshee was normal.”

Deirdre leaned on Da Fei’s shoulder and quickly nodded, trying to please him, “Thank you, Master! I felt unexpectedly strong resistance when recruiting troops, something I have never encountered before!”

Da Fei took a deep breath of her fragrance, wondering why, despite the severe error, he felt so happy. Happiness was good! Happiness filled him with confidence; now was the time to investigate the truth.

There was no need to mention the first Banshee, as it was naturally given by the system when the camp was completed. This was part of the camp’s design. Just like the Anemone King Camp, once completed, it instantly had one unit in reserve. Since the first Banshee was a normal Banshee, it meant there was nothing wrong with the camp; it wasn’t a defective structure.

Da Fei asked, “Where do you think the resistance came from?”

Deirdre replied, “The first resistance was, of course, opening the Space Gate between hell and here, which was no problem. The second resistance is the location of our camp. Our camp is situated inside the Otherworld created by the Mages. To transmit troops over, we must break through this layer of resistance. It’s a bit more strenuous than usual, but if I push harder, it’s manageable. Then I encountered a third type of resistance, which was incredibly strong.”

Da Fei’s eyebrows jumped, “Could it be the World Tree Barrier?”

Deirdre neither confirmed nor denied, “Our Banshee Race differs from other combat-type Demons; we don’t transmit our physical bodies to the Otherworld, but instead transmit our Demon Souls, using the Summoner’s Mana to reassemble our bodies upon arrival. It’s precisely because our physical bodies are illusionary that we possess the special skill of transformation. If a Banshee’s Demon Soul is overly depleted during transmission, it’s possible to fail, and that might explain the current situation, though I’ve never heard of such a case. It’s just a hypothesis.”

I see! Da Fei recalled that night, or rather, last night, when Bloodrose Studio summoned the Banshee boss and that cloud of red mist. This must be the Demon Soul of the Banshee. Demon Souls are extremely fragile without physical bodies and might easily encounter errors during transmission.

It must have been the World Tree Barrier! There’s no escaping that! So what now? Should I sail outside the barrier to summon troops? Wait, outside the barrier?

Updat𝓮d from freewēbnoveℓ.com.

Outside the barrier! Suddenly, an idea flashed in Da Fei’s mind! He seemed to grasp a faint clue.

Deirdre continued, “But, Master, don’t be disheartened. Although we only summoned an underaged one, there’s a benefit to being underage. Her skills aren’t set, and she has growth potential. If I personally train and educate her, given time, she might possibly grow into a useful asset.”

Da Fei was shocked, his eyebrows jumping again, “Growth potential? Train and educate?”

Deirdre laughed awkwardly, “It might take some time and effort, but I’m idle anyway. At the very least, I can’t waste Master’s Gold Coin!”

A sudden idea rushed into Da Fei’s mind! Da Fei beckoned this tender little Banshee closer to scrutinize her! This is something any normal man would do, right?

Da Fei asked, “She seems to fly?”

Deirdre laughed, “Yes, most Demons can fly in their juvenile phase. Once they mature, their weight increases, and their bodies grow into a form unsuitable for flight. Their wings become ornaments. But I’m different, I’m a top-notch among the Banshees!”

Da Fei chuckled, “Of course you are.”

Actually, I can train troops too! How to train?

—Expert-level Reconnaissance Skill: Increases the hero’s vision range by 80%, allows viewing the opponent hero’s equipment from afar, and allows training of the Scout type in the hero’s castle.

Scout: Level 1 unit, Attack 0, Defense 0, Life 10, Damage 0-1, Attack Speed 10, Move Speed 15, Command Value 1, Special Skills: Advanced Reconnaissance Skill, Stealth, Independent Expedition. Training cost: 500 Gold Coin (most expensive Level 1 unit).

In other words, once a player learns Expert-level Reconnaissance Skill and owns their own castle, they can train blank NPC citizens into Scouts. Training prerequisite: blank NPC with no skills! Not mentioning Advanced Reconnaissance Skill and Stealth, as they have been mentioned many times before. Independent Expedition means this troop type can go to a destination for reconnaissance without a hero leading it. Training costs 500 Gold Coin, matching the recruitment standard for Level 5 troops!

And don’t you dare complain about the cost! Note the training prerequisite: a blank NPC with no skills! A skilled NPC is considered fixed and has no growth potential anymore.

But in life, who doesn’t know a few skills? Even a farmer would know Taxation Skill! Not to mention that Taxation Skill was a Divine Skill. Finding a truly skill-less blank NPC among a whole city of NPC citizens isn’t easy!

Useless is indeed useful!

That’s right, Da Fei’s idea was whether this underage Banshee could be trained into a Scout. Currently, he was unable to conduct reconnaissance himself. If he could train a flying Banshee Scout, wouldn’t that be amazing?

However, the key issue now was, can a troop type be considered an ordinary NPC? Given that Deirdre could transform into an ordinary NPC, let’s assume she counts as an ordinary NPC. Another issue was her innate flying skill, does that still qualify her as a blank NPC? Also, this was on a ship, not a castle; does it even meet the training conditions?

Damn it! Why bother with all this? It’s just 500 Gold Coin! No big deal! The Legendary Hero Gru could train skilled, established ordinary archers into Phantom Archers in the wild. I’m at least doing this in a camp, face-to-face with a creature with growth potential. Not to mention that I’m using the God-level Reconnaissance Technique for a job meant for Expert-level, might as well try it!

Open the skill panel, pull up the training Scout skill!

—System Prompt: Would you like to train the “underage Banshee” into a Scout troop type?

—System Prompt: Training a Scout troop requires full Stamina, please consider all necessary conditions. Conditions not suitable for training may lead to failure, and the cost of training Gold Coin cannot be refunded.

Nothing more to say, confirmed!

A beam of white light shot from Da Fei’s hand, enveloping the entire Banshee. Da Fei’s Stamina started to plummet rapidly! Dropping! 50%! 30%! 10%! Stamina is in the red! Stamina depleted! Damn!

—System Prompt: Unfortunately, your Stamina was insufficient to train the Scout, and the training failed!

Damn! It really failed! Surely you can’t mess around with Banshees?

—System Prompt: You have comprehended information related to the skill “Special Soldier Training Technique!”

Da Fei was suddenly astounded! It wasn’t a complete failure! An unexpected reward! Special Soldier Training Technique? What is this skill? Da Fei hurriedly opened the reconnaissance skill book and flipped through it, but there was no record of this skill!

Da Fei widened his eyes, could this be another God-level Skill?
