_____

After the fight against the sand worms his common demon points had taken a large boost and he could feel this increase in his physique.

If he were able to max out both common and epic demon points then it wouldn’t be much of a problem, even when facing a horde of sandworms. But it was easier said than done.

He glanced over to the fear counter which had gone up by two points; up until now he had no idea what it truly meant. It was clearly linked to the Primal Hunter path so he would most likely learn about it.

The biggest gain though, aside from the demon points, was the image which he had acquired.

His eyes lingered on it and more information soon popped up.

{Rest in Peace. Type: Charm, Level: Tier one True }

(Description)

A young prince once wished to find the truest peace the world could offer, so he travelled into the mountains and into the sea, in search of true peace. But he never found it.

The stranger, sensing his distress, came to him with a handful of sand and a coffin. The foolish prince, thinking one of them must be true peace, chose the sand. But the sand would not do without the coffin and they both swallowed the foolish prince. And in peace did he rest.

(Enchantments)

Buried alive: When charm is active, the user can breathe through his pores instead of his nose. This action puts the user in a weakened state.

Is he dead: When activated, the user enters a state of false death. Duration: 24 hours.

Looking at the specifications, Vale’s eyes couldn’t help but light up. Getting a sacred image from a common creature was something that shouldn’t even be possible.

Images were divided into five ranks including common, epic, true, sacred, and spirit. Although there was a rumour about a higher rank Vale had never stumbled on anything like that.

Although it was only tier one, the fact that it was of the true rank meant that it would be very useful.

The enchantment, however, wasn’t that useful. The ability to breathe through pores would only be useful if he were ever buried alive. The other enchantment was better but it wasn’t that useful, if he tried using it in the presence of a powerful deon then he would just end up getting eaten.

He let out a sigh; while he would have preferred a weapon, his current situation didn’t allow him to be picky.

The image also seemed to link to a larger story about a prince and the stranger. That wasn’t Vale’s problem though.

He summoned the image with a single thought and got a closer look at it. It was a necklace; plain and golden. What really stood out was the pendant: A small sized coffin no bigger than a thumb. Vale also noticed that the lid of the coffin was slightly ajar, but when he tried to look through it his vision met only darkness.

He tried prying it open but even with all his strength he didn’t achieve any success.

He was just about to dismiss it when he felt sand on his fingers. The sand seemed to have come from the coffin.

With a frown on his face he shook the coffin a little and more sand tickled out from within.

He stared at it, trying to figure out what was going on. When he was met with no success he decided to let it be as he dismissed the image.

He dismissed the system too and took out the martial script for iron body, glancing through it.

The martial script required Qi, reminding Vale that his meridians were still closed.

Normally, after a person unlocked their class and gained a few demon points, a superior would help them unlock their meridians. This would enable one use qi and mana.

There was the other option of waiting until he maxed out his common demon points. From what he knew, if he were to max out common demon points then the amount of Qi his body would accumulate would forcefully open his meridians. But that would take a while.

He turned to Roxy, who was still meditating, and wondered if he could ask her to help him open his meridians.

She seemed especially entranced now, so that would be tomorrow. He even wondered if she had slept off.

He continued looking through the martial script and tried practicing some of the movements and stances recorded in the script.

It didn’t take long before an overpowering fatigue came upon him, causing his eyelids to falter as he was once again reminded that he needed to sleep.

Without thinking too much, he rolled onto the bed. It was big enough to take three people conveniently.

Rein was sleeping silently beside him and he took one glance at her before turning the other way.

However, there was something he noticed that made him turn back to her. On her head, there was a small scar. She had probably gotten it along the way so Vale didn’t think about it too much.

He turned away and closed his eyes.

Before sleep stole him away, his mind flickered to the events that had occurred in the past few days.

Had he been in this new body for more than ten days? It was hard to tell. But so many things had happened in such a short time. He didn’t know if it was fate or just coincidence.

But one thing was certain. Life without the weight of revenge was quite nice.

The people around him were even growing on him.

A small smile formed on his face. Even though a major part of himself was lost because of his new body, he had come to the realisation that he was better off without that little part.

He was better off as Vale Vance than Vale Rudon. The old him was slowly dying, and that was for the best.

It didn’t take long before the night stole him away leading him to a world he would forget by morning.

Agul lay at the top of his pillar and looked into the sky.

He had managed to save quite a few people from the sand worms this season, and that made him happy.

Vale, however, had managed to pique his interest.

Most people when they were being attacked tended to forget about the safety of their loved ones, this was something Agul had seen on numerous occasions.

But as he watched Vale carry Rein through the desert, something inside him was stirred, and he knew what it was.

Jealousy; after all, he himself hadn’t been able to turn back when his sister screamed for help.

_____

The rays of moonlight filled the room, gleaming off the golden surfaces.

A loud horn sounded from deep within the forest, reaching all parts of the inverted forest.

Vale’s eyelids shook as his consciousness returned to him. He felt something warm on him as he tried to part his eyelids apart.

It took a while for his eyes to get accustomed to reality, and when he did, he was finally able to make out the warmth and softness on him

"Ehh?"

That was the only sound he could produce as he looked at Rein who was nearly completely wrapped around him.

Thankfully she was a deep sleeper and with some effort, he was able to get her off his body.

He looked around and didn’t find Roxy. Seeing as it wasn’t morning yet, it was clear that the night had decided to persist longer than it should.

What he really wanted to know, though, was why a horn had been blown. Was it an emergency or something else?
