Chapter 34: Killing Spree

Roxy could only curse her luck for leading her to such a powerful monster. While this wasn’t her first time encountering someone who had escaped the realm, he was by far the strongest.

She had been able to tell he was from the prison realm immediately, because of his smell. She believed he was either from the fifth or sixth level.

Sending him back had not only used all her stored mana, but it had also worn down her physical body.

Right now she was in the most vulnerable state she had ever been in a long time and it was frustrating. That was why she immediately got pissed when that pungent smell attacked her nostrils.

She could stand a lot of things; but smoke this terrible wasn’t one of them. The art of smoking should not be desecrated by such cheap things.

Although, she was more than a bit shocked when she opened her eyes to numerous metal barrels being pointed at her. They were lurking in the shadows but her eyes could pierce any darkness. She couldn’t tell what they were but from how tense Vale was, she could infer that they were dangerous.

But even then she could hardly sense any mana from the people which made her sceptical. In fact, there was hardly any mana in the environment.

She was currently like a fish thrown in a desert. As a mutant, she was able to absorb mana and recover faster than regular people, but with nothing to absorb, there was no way for her to recover.

The short man standing beside them licked his lips, "You got a sharp tongue kid. You won’t mind if I cut it off for ya." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

He then pulled out a pocket knife and looked at Vale.

"The offer’s gonna change. Drop the girl and ya free to go."

Vale squinted his eyes, things had clearly escalated quickly. He wouldn’t mind dropping some money, but Roxy was the one thing he had to protect right now.

Just as Vale’s mind was running an escape scenario, Roxy lowered her head and whispered to him.

"They’re bluffing."

His eyes widened, but he tried his best to hide it. He wanted to ask her how she could tell, but that would raise the man’s suspicion.

"I don’t got all day, drop the girl if you don’t want something bad to happen to you."

The tension in the air grew stronger by the second and Vale couldn’t make up his mind as to whether he should believe her or not. In the end, he could only take her word and hope she was right.

The stout’s face became gloomy when he noticed Vale wasn’t complying. He decided to put a mark on the kid’s face, but just as his blade was about to slash, Vale unsheathed his dagger and in a single natural motion, decapitated the man.

There was silence after that. A deathly one that was further intensified by the dry winds, shifting the top layer of sand.

Nobody shot, but the sound of the guns hitting the ground was what caught Vale’s attention.

It seemed they were really bluffing, but why: if they really had guns then why not shoot? Or maybe they didn’t have any bullets, that was the only plausible conclusion.

The short man’s dead body lay in the sand as blood pooled under him, soaking the ground crimson.

"He killed the boss, we can’t let him live," a loud voice echoed from within the shadows.

The man ran out with a machete in hand. His goal was to decapitate the kid who had taken their boss by surprise, and he planned to do it in one strike.

The other members of the gang also revealed themselves and with knives and daggers they ran to attack Vale.

A small grin appeared on Vale’s face. He hadn’t been eager to fight since they had guns, but now that he knew those guns were only for intimidation he wouldn’t mind getting his hands bloody.

As much as he loved to deny it, humans could be worse than demons at times. And each time he found people like that, he always tried his best to enjoy killing them, the same way he enjoyed hunting demons.

In the blink of an eye, he counted over twenty strong and able men coming at him with weapons.

The closest was the man who had shouted for them to attack, and as soon as he entered range preparing to deliver an attack, Vale swung his dagger, burying it deep in his skull and ending his life.

Then the next one came and even though he tried to stay out of Vale’s range, a single step closed the distance and in the next moment, the blade was covered in his blood.

The next three people suffered the same fate, and Roxy didn’t even bother to get off Vale’s neck, her body was still too weak.

The thugs soon realised that the person they had attacked was no ordinary person.

The closest one to Vale had his palm covered in sweat as his legs shook violently. He had watched all his predecessors die and from the looks of it, he was next in line. At this point, he didn’t care if Vale murdered his entire family, he just wanted to get away from this murder machine.

His weapon fell to the ground as he turned around and ran.

The others also saw everything that played out, and the bodies on the ground seemed to be a prophecy of their soon-to-be fate.

But none of them wanted to die, so they followed suit, running away in all directions.

Before the dust from the first thug’s feet settled, Vale and Roxy were alone. He didn’t bother pursuing them as he wasn’t fully recovered.

Roxy had watched everything unfold and she couldn’t help but be dumbfounded: not only had he not hesitated while killing, but he was also able to hide his intent. This was something very few people could do and seeing a kid do it was nothing short of shocking.

In the end, she knew exactly what all this meant: He was an inborn killer.
