The moment Cain's Warblade struck the head of the {Blightbeast Terror}, a deafening shriek echoed through the fog filled battlefield.

The impact was brutal. His blade sank deep into the creature's malformed skull, and black ichor erupted from the wound like pressurized bile.

But a creature from the realm that loathe gods could not be killed so easily. Instead, the Blightbeast writhed violently, its entire form pulsing as though trying to reject the damage. Cain felt resistance, an unnatural force pushing back against his strike. The flesh beneath his blade twisted, the wound sealing even as he forced his sword deeper.

"Persistent bastard," Cain snarled.

He twisted his grip and poured more Demon Matter into Demon Dragon. A surge of crimson tinged black energy flooded the Warblade, sending shockwaves of raw power rippling through the creature's head. The air itself trembled as the force of the attack detonated outward.

A horrible, gurgling shriek rang through the battlefield as the Blightbeast's upper skull split open like a cracked melon, exposing writhing, pulsating tendrils where a brain should have been.

Instead of collapsing, however, the creature's entire body expanded, its back splitting further as new appendages burst forth, dozens of fleshy arms clawing their way out of its malformed spine. They darted in all directions, some reaching downto grab at the nearby Godly Beasts, while others lunged at Avalon, Asteron and Cain.

He barely had a second to react.

A black, barbed tendril shot from the creature's back, faster than lightning, as the arms grabbed towards him. They had clawed ends, and if they met him, they would tear him to pieces.

He barely managed to twist his body mid-air, avoiding a direct hit, but the tendril still grazed his side, tearing through his armor like it was wet parchment.

Blinding pain flared as a deep gash opened across his ribs. The wound blackened quickly and began to rot, producing a thick black ooze.

Before he could regain his footing, another tendril lashed out.

'Shit!'

Just as it was about to impale him, a golden streak of light flashed across the fog overhead.

A massive bolt of radiant lightning slammed into the Blightbeast's chest, sending it skidding backward. The creature shrieked as golden flames ignited along its body, searing its flesh like divine acid.

Cain landed roughly, clutching his side as he looked toward the source.

Golden lightning crackled around Avalon's body, Find your next read on novelbuddy

"The stench of this thing disgusts me. Are you alright, human?"

Cain coughed up a mouthful of blackened blood. His grin was appalling,

"Yeah, I'm good."

A soft radiance hit his body, and a moment later, the flow of black blood stopped as the wound began to close.

The Blightbeast, for the first time since the battle began, spoke. Cain had heard plenty unpleasant things in his life, but the voice of this harrowing fiend has to be at the peak,

"A Drake, a Cynogryph, and a human that reeks of demonic energy..."

The Blightbeast opened its maw. The golden sparks and tufts of flame that covered its body were extinguished. All the damage the abominable thing suffered was already being repaired.

It let out a deep, unholy sound that resembled a chuckle.

Asteron's eyes were still white hot with rage,

"You wretched thing! I will carve out your heart and devour it, if you have any!"

The Blightbeast chuckled again,

"Stupid lizard. You'll die if you have a taste of my blood."

Cain grimaced as he thought to himself,

'Now is not the time to be talking with this thing.'

They were not winning the current battle. Loves were being lost equally on both sides.

The beings of the Godly Realm were ferocious and tenacious. They had Hugh affinity with Mana, and their breaths could level forests.

Despite that, they were evenly matched with the beings of the Godless realm. Not only were these creatures tenacious, they also had all sorts of insidious abilities with included, but was not limited to; all sorts of poisonous abilities, bodies that could inflict rot and decay, hexes and curses, and so on...

The death toll on both sides was equally as terrible.

Something had to change, or they would wipe each other out.

Just then, Cain noticed something.

The fog was closing in once again.

"Asteron, the fog!" He called out.

But the Wind Drake seemed out of it.

With a furious roar, he galloped towards the Blightbeast and sank his fangs into it. In response, the {Blightbeast Terror} tore at Asteron's scales and flesh, turning it bloody and mangled.

"Shit! Avalon, snap him out of it!" Cain yelled at the flying Cynogryph.

Avalon shook his head, his voice grim,

"Those with dragon's blood are prone to fiery temperaments. He has been angered by the death of the Gnat, Midread. He won't stop until he tears that thing apart. Getting him out of it will not be easy right now."

Cain cursed again, "Then can't you do something about the fog?"

Avalon was silent for a moment, then shook his head,

"There is nothing I can do. My ability to control the winds is not great enough to drive it away. Attempting to do so might even draw it in."

The edges of the fog was already closing in on them. A few fighting on the outskirts were being swallowed by the dog, completely oblivious to its approach.

For a moment, Cain thought he saw something within the fog. He shook his head with a frown,

'I have to find a way to push it back.'

His only option here was to use {Wind Weaver}. But that spell was not very flexible. It could only control wind in a certain manner, a manner in which could have adverse effects here.

He thought back...

'To blow the fog away, Asteron released a gust of powerful air in one direction. However, the fog was displaced in all directions.'

He dodged a bone arrow headed his way. Dozens of shimmering golden star-tipped blades appeared all around him before darting in all directions a moment later.

A {Red-Eye Gremlin} with bat-like wings seated on the lower branches of a tree put itself bow down and tried flying away. A second later, it let out a series of pained shrieks as its body was pinned into the bark of the try by a golden star-tipped sword.

Viscous blood dripped down the side from the tree as the creature struggled until exhaustion kicked in and it could struggle no more.

Ignoring the system notification, Cain busied his mind even as he battle with the vile creatures headed towards him.

'The way the {Wind Drake} utilizes mana to activate skills and spells is rather unique. It might not be presumptuous to say he doesn't even activate spells in the first place.'

The burly arm of a stone-skinned creature smashed towards him. He parried it with the {Lonely Dragon} Warblade. The creature's other hand slammed into him, knocking him backwards and driving his back into a tree. He rolled to the side to dodge a spear that had been aimed at his head.

'Rather, it is more as if the element of wind is at his mercy to be used as a tool. To be shaped however he so pleases.'

This was nothing new. Most Mutant Beasts back in Urbus utilized the same principle. The ability to control the elements was innate to them, like a sort of sixth sense.

However, the {Wind Drake} seemed to take it to the next stage.

Every breath the Drake took saturated the area around him with rich wind attribute mana. The flow of the air around him and stability of the surrounding atmosphere was subjected to change according to his mood and or will.

He had met very few creatures that could exert such heavy influence on natural phenomena.

'If I could control elemental phenomena like that, perhaps I would be able to increase the effectiveness of {Wind Weaver}.'

The fog continued to encroach even closer, swallowing more and more of the fighting creatures were being swallowed by the minute.

'Damn it!'

He fucked under a rocky fist and swung his blade diagonally. The edge of the {Lonely Dragon} Warblade smashed into the joint of vines and roots connecting the rocky arm to the torso of the creature attacking him, tearing it apart.

The creature stumbled back, but a swift blow to the head put it down permanently.

He looked towards the battle between Asteron and the Blightbeast. They were locked in furious combat, tearing through trees, the ground, and the creatures fighting beneath them. It was chaotic and mad, both trying to tear each other apart as brutally as possible.

Cain clicked his tongue. Avalon has been right. Trying to interfere in that would be your own undoing.

He looked around. Those who were more aware were slowly retreating closer and closer in. But it was all for naught, as the fog would soon reach and devour all of them.

Evangeline and Roselle walked up to him, their hairs and body wet with colorful blood.

Jenny phased into existence right in front of his eyes, her expression a bit panicked.

Jenny's Light Guardian barreled towards them right behind Thern who swatted every creature in her path away.

They all had dark looks on their faces.

Susan called out to him,

"Cain, what do we do now?"

He furrowed his brows. Then he sighed,

There was a difference between learning magic and having the ability to influence an element. One could be acquired, the other was, for the most part, an affinity.

Although his affinity with the Wond element was high, it was not high enough.

In other words...

"At the moment, all we can do is wait."

Wait for the fog to swallow them.

Cain watched the fog draw closer with grim eyes.

'Damn it all!'
