Chapter 1124: Aftermath of Battle (2).

Stepping into the dark night, Cain felt refreshed already.

He has spent some time with Evangeline before she sank back into the shadows. Since she was not one for pillow talk, she had vanished right as the basked in the afterglow.

He let out a sigh.

He did feel a tiny bit better after that. But now, he had to confront the reality of their situation.

’We won.’

In reality, their plan has not been simply to just win the battle. No. His sights were set much further than that.

It was in fact, a show of might. As well as a play to throw their internal forces off balance.

They had originally planned to attack them. Now, the Blood Moon Sect would be dealing with internal problems of their own now that they had seen what the Golden Asura and its allies were capable of.

Cain nodded to himself. This was more than enough.

Although with Nebula had not gone completely in his favor, the also had not lost out too much of the other hand suffered similar injuries.

He stood in the silence for a moment.

Then his brows furrowed together.

He began walking in a particular direction, only stopping until he reached a certain tent. Pulling it open, he let the flap drop to prevent the heat in the tent from escaping into the chilly outside.

"Damn you, Cain! I thought we lost you again!"

Rolling his eyes at Steve’s familiar antics, Cain let out a sigh.

In the tent, Steve, Hunter and Gilead sat.

He dropped to the ground and folded his legs as well.

Then he raised his gaze up to see the three staring at him intently.

He raised a brow,

"W-what is it? Is there something on my face?"

Hunter grimaced but shook his head,

"No."

He was silent for a moment then quickly changed the subject,

"Although I’m relieved that you are alright— what was that attack of yours? You nearly wiped us all out?"

Cain sighed, "i might have hit a breakthrough during that battle. Perhaps, that was the reason for the sudden outburst. I’m not too sure yet. I haven’t really had the time to check."

"Hm... Sure you haven’t." Gilead said knowingly.

Cain paused for a moment then raised a brow,

"That... What’s that supposed to mean?"

Gilead shrugged and shook his head,

"No. It’s nothing."

Hunter cleared his throat,

"But that’s by the way."

He fixed his gaze onto Cain, drawing his attention,

"Now that you are awake, there’s good news and some bad news. I’ll give you the good news first."

’Not even going to let me pick?’ Cain let out a mental sigh.

"Alright. Say what you have to say." He said as he folded his arms.

"The good news, is that the Blood Moon Sect don’t seem interested in fighting anymore. Nockt’s plan worked wonders, especially after the stunt Nebula pulled. Now, the council of Elders and the entire sect is split down the middle. We most likely won’t be seeing anything on that end for a while with Nockt keeping his fingers over it."

Cain nodded. That was indeed good news.

But Hunter wasn’t done yet,

"We also only lost about twenty men. Far below what we initially expected.

Cain’s eyes widened,

"This... What’s even better than I expected. That’s wonderful news."

When he said this, Both Steve’s and Gilead’s faces darkened a bit.

Sensing the obvious change in their expressions, Cain frowned,

"What’s the matter?"

Hunter sighed,

"On to the bad news... Of the twenty, twelve of them were Hunters from Valestorm. That is essentially just a little under half their numbers."

Cain’s expression turned ugly.

He muttered, "That’s not good at all."

Hunter nodded, "The rest are calling it quits. They demand compensation and want to head back to Valestorm on their own."

Cain frowned, but after a moment of silent contemplation, he nodded,

"In that case, that’s what we’ll do."

Steve spoke up,

"If we do that, we will be losing even more than originally planned. That will make what comes next far more difficult for us. I was hoping we could—"

Cain shook his head, "No. It’s not worth it."

Steve was silent for a moment then let out a sigh,

"Is that so..."

Cain turned to Hunter,

"We’ll give them what they ask for then compensate for the lives of the fallen. In the end, it makes little difference to me."

Gilead hummed as he spoke seriously,

"That’s fine and all, but what do we do about the aspect of manpower?"

Cain shrugged, "We are only an advance team. In fact, the more I look at it, the morei believe fewer numbers would be favorable for us. That keeps the logistics to a minimum as well."

’Of course, there are obvious limitations.’

But he absolutely refused to lug on dead weight any longer. It was best to chop off a foot if it started to rot.

Plus, these Hunters truly were only good when it came to dying. They weren’t being thrown to the frontlines to die. They just weren’t powerful enough to stand their grounds in such battles.

Of course, this didn’t mean they were weak. Far from it.

Rather, they were simply much stronger. All the members of the Golden Asura were strong enough to easily hold their own against multiple powerful enemies.

And things were bound to one get more chaotic and violent from here on out.

It was for everyone’s sake they cut their losses.

Hunter nodded, "That’s that then."

Cain raised a brow,

"Is that all the bad news?"

Hunter was silent for a moment.

The other two also gaze him rather strange, oddly pitiful looks.

Cain finally couldn’t take it anymore,

"Alright, none of this crap anymore. Spill it!"

Hunter turned to the other two.

Seeing them shrug, a difficult expression fell onto his face,

"Well, if you are asking this, it means they must have left before you woke up."

Hunter paused for a moment, cleared his throat then continued with a straight face,

"You are one lucky man, Cain."
