God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 1108: Bad Terms.
The swelling darkness did nothing to faze Cain. He glared into it without looking away.
A moment later, the shadows twisted and parted, to reveal Evangeline.
She was dressed in her dark night robes. Her hair was still like a graceful celestial river, and her eyes, were still the color of blood.
However, the look on her face, was not the same languid, serene expression he had come to see all this time.
Instead, her expression was rather cold and unfeeling.
His eyes narrowed as he clenched his fists.
Evangeline shrugged, "What conclusions have you come to?"
Cain’s expression was an ugly grimace,
"You are the spy. At first I wasn’t so sure. However, after meeting that Night lady, I am a hundred percent certain."
Evangeline’s cold expression turned into an even colder smile.
She nodded, "Indeed, I did do that. But that doesn’t really count as espionage, does it?"
Cain snarled, "Of course it does! What are you thinking, damn it?!"
Evangeline replied immediately, "You don’t need to know what I am thinking. All you need to know, is that I am doing it for your own good."
Cain huffed in disbelief, "For my own good?! What the hell does that even mean?!"
Evangeline floated in the swirling shadows until she was right behind. Separated by just a few inches, Cain could feel the rather worrisome chill rolling off of her in waves.
"There’s no need to think about it too much. Regardless, you did a good job handling that. I’m impressed." She reached forward to touch his face.
Cain grabbed her hand her it could make contact with him. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
’Who is this?’
Not only was he speechless, he was also rather frightened.
’All this time, she’s just been playing in my face.’
Although he didn’t want to believe that, the facts were right in front of him.
His heart fell as he realized something else. His face went pale.
’I... I let this happen.’
He had, in fact, let a lot of things happen. Although he had tried to, in the end, he had ended up being negligent.
And his negligence had piled up so much, he had begun to overlook so many things.
And those things had spiralled into much bigger things. Or rather, they would have, if something had not been cleaning up his messes in the shadows.
But the fact was not all his messes could be handled in time.
The result was something like what happened on Redscale.
Suddenly, his eyes became clear.
He let out a sigh and let go of her hand. Seeing the look in his eyes, Evangeline trembled slightly.
"Cain, I—"
He shook his head,
"No. I’m in the wrong here."
His expression had calmed down a bit, but the gaze in his eyes was just as dark, perhaps even darker.
"I’m sorry for jumping into conclusions like that. It was wrong of me."
Evangeline grimaced, but said nothing.
Seeing that, Cain let out a sigh,
"Then, I’ll be on my way."
Cain turned around.
Evangeline’s lips parted slightly, but in the end, she remained silent.
A moment later, Cain disappeared from the {Shadow World}.
The world of shadows was silent for a few moments.
Then Evangeline let out a sigh and a groan,
"What an idiot."
She remained still for a moment, then snapped her fingers.
The world around her rumbled and shifted as the shadows coalesced and condensed to form various strange, shifting structures, with some appearing more solid than others.
In an instant, everywhere had changed.
There was a giant monolith that had appeared right in front of her.
The monolith was not made of shadows. Instead, it was made of a strange black stone. It was an anomaly— the only thing that existed within the world of shadows, that was not made of the shadows themselves.
At the very zenith of the monolith was an altar.
And on that alter, with long silver locks flowing all around her, was Aurora, the Matriach of the Blood Moon Sect.
Her arms and legs were bound tightly by chains casted of high grade Field Steel. The altar was make of the same black stone as th monolith, but was also made of the shifting shadows, with blood red runes swimming across its surface, making it appear like the sacrificial grounds to some twisted, mad god.
Above the monolith, was the Crimson Moon.
Not a Crimson Moon, but the Crimson Moon.
The same one that had vanished from the sky six months ago.
Evangeline took a glance at the monolith.
Then she stepped on the shadows, reappearing instantly on the altar.
Aurora, who had had her eyes closed, opened them immediately.
A look of pure satisfaction and gloating was on her face, reflected from the very depths of her eyes.
"How truly satisfying that was to witness."
Evangeline said nothing.
Aurora chuckled,
"What, you think you can get away with manipulating everything just like I had? My dearest daughter, you might have learned from me, but that doesn’t mean you are just as good."
Evangeline’s eyes narrowed, "I am not your daughter. And I did not manipulate him."
Aurora raised a brow and chuckled,
"It certainly doesn’t seem like he feels the same."
Then she chuckled, "But that doesn’t matter now, does it? After all, all that matters, are your personal goals. Once you absorb all the power within me, you will have no use of your dear old mother. Then you will do a way with me like yesterday’s leftovers. That is the same thing you will do to your boy toy too, right?"
Evangeline’s eyes flashed with subtle rage,
"Not before I tear down everything you’ve built. I’ll make sure you get to see it all come down to ash."
Aurora chuckled, "Well, good luck with that. Best believe your boy toy will be keeping a close eye on you from now on. Your only choice from now on, will be to cut your losses and betray him. The faster that happens, the quicker you can get rid of the guilt."
Evangeline was silent for a moment.
Then she sighed in a sigh. And smiled,
"Thank you. That’s pretty much what I wanted to hear."
She drew a dagger and slid it across her palm,
"You might not understand this because of your selfishness, but the reason for my existence is simply to fulfill one purpose."
A strange look flashed through her eyes as her blood slowly dropped into the shadows, enriching the luster of the crimson runes swimming within the shadows.
Seeing this, a look of terror and panic appeared on Aurora’s beautiful, but palid face.
"And that purpose, is to make sure he achieves his goals. It does not matter if he hates or despises me in the process."
Aurora grit her teeth as the crimson runes swam towards her,
"Wh! Why go this far?!"
Evangeline’s smile turned a little distant.
As though she was recalling the memories of somewhere far away,
"Because I love him."
