God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 1082: Premonitions of Better Times (1).
Strutting forward calmly, Cain was a bit lost in his thoughts when he felt a gaze settle on him.
He frowned and glanced up.
His eyes narrowed when he tore his gaze away...
He continued walking for a bit before arriving at the spot he had left Evangeline.
She was gone, perhaps jumping right back into the comfort of the shadows to continue her rest in peace.
Seeing that he was left all alone again, Cain sighed.
Then he raised his eyes again. The gaze still remained on him.
He knew who it was, but was a bit hesitant to acknowledge it.
In the end, he felt it would be too awkward.
Still, he had no choice. Some things had to be addressed as soon as possible, regardless of how tense the situation was.
"Master, where are we headed to now?" Blatt asked as he adjusted himself under Cain’s grip.
"To see the Queen." Cain answered casually.
"Eh?! See the waaaaa—!"
Cain leapt into the air.
A pair of black wings sprouted out of his back as he took to the skies.
Soaring in the wind for a moment, he eventually folded them and landed on the large landing pad located on the side of the tallest spire of black chitin.
There, Anathe was stood. Alone.
Cain silently tucked his wings away.
There was a brief moment of tense silence.
Then Anathe spoke,
"It seems we might have taken our games quite a bit too far." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Cain nodded grimly, "Indeed we have."
He looked down over the edge of the spire,
"This has been quite the messy ordeal."
He glanced over at her,
"But I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong."
Anathe’s brows trembled,
"No. This is all on me."
Cain was silent for a moment then sighed.
He casually took a seat right at the edge of the landing pad.
Seeing this, Anathe hesitated for a moment before sitting down right next to him.
The two didn’t say anything for a few minutes.
Then Anathe sucked in a deep breath,
"I won’t try to stop you from working with the {Willow Direwolves} and the {Blood-Curse Bats} anymore."
Cain turned to glance at her, but he didn’t say anything.
Anathe continued, "Perhaps I have been considering this with a closed mind after all."
Cain shrugged, "Maybe you have. However, I do understand your hesitation."
In reality, he didn’t blame Anathe a lot. He realized that the differences between the beasts was mostly not of their making. It was simply due to the completion between the Celestials they served.
Divinity was the name of the currency all these gods— dead and alive, seemed to covet.
The dead gods needed it so they could be resurrected, and the living ones needed it to expand their influence.
At the end of the day, even he was all subject to the whims of these gods even if it was indirectly. No matter what they did, these beasts couldn’t truly be free.
They were all simply acting for their best interests.
Cain sighed, "How about we give this another go? I can give you the same offer I gave those two."
He turned to face the Ant Queen,
"You know this already, but I’ll go ahead and say it again— This island is too small. Far too small for your colony to truly flourish. And from the looks of it, you might be in dire need of an expansion."
Seeing the confused look in Anathe’s eyes, Cain shrugged,
"Not all your followers are pleased with your rules and decisions, Anathe. If you do not change a few things soon, you’ll have a mutiny on your hands. By then, it will be too late."
Anathe was silent.
She turned to stare at the grey skies for some time, not saying anything as she simply drank in the atmosphere.
Then she turned back to Cain and asked earnestly,
"What do you think I should do?"
Cain was silent for a moment. In reality, he had thought it would take much more for him to try to convince her again, but he realized he had thought too little of her for a moment there.
"Downsizing..."
Anathe repeatedly his words, "Downsizing?"
Cain nodded, "After this incident, I believe there are already those that want to leave your colony. And that is not necessarily a bad choice— some creatures simply cannot thrive in the world you are trying to build. All you can do is let them do what they must."
Some creatures thrived better in their solitude. Others were more pack oriented. In the end, to live properly in the Colony was something that was her much related to a creature’s nature. So there was no forcing it.
If that happened, disasters such as this would would only be more and more frequent, Cain thought to himself.
"The Mother Goddess opens her arms to all the beasts of the worlds. None are to be left behind."
Cain’s brows twitched. He had already figured she would say something like that. After all, regardless of how she felt about the matter, the true purpose the Redscale Colony even existed, nwas because a certain Celestial was making use of its divine influence to create a breeding ground for all sorts of monstrosities.
He was sure of it.
However, even the most difficult of circumstances, a way forward would present itself.
"In that case, you could simply have them move over to the main continent. There’s nothing that says the creatures bound to the Mother Goddess must remain in the colony, right? In fact, setting most of them free will give more avenues and space for the grace of your goddess to spread to the far ends of Urbus."
Anathe’s eyes widened,
"That..."
Cain’s grin turned a bit sinister,
"You don’t need to think about it too much. Of course—"
"No. Let’s do it."
A smirk appeared on his face,
"Alright, if you insist."
Anathe huffed then hesitated for a moment before asking,
"Your bride... How is she?"
