Chapter 87: Love Is War [4]

"Ah, heh. What am I thinking?" Roy chuckled to himself.

’Although Suzuki Kyouno’s affection for Pierre is off the charts, it isn’t confirmed that she was the one who stabbed Aiko or spread the rumour.’

Roy placed his head on his desk and looked out the window. Coincidentally, his desk at school in the real world was also positioned similarly. He liked that fact.

’At the same time, it’s obvious she’s important to this level. What if the level environment crashes after she dies prematurely? Also, how many error points will it take to kill her?’ Since his system charged error points for trying to say words that didn’t fit his nerd role, won’t he be charged more for actions taken that also didn’t fit?

"Argh, what should I do?" Roy complained and glanced weakly at a booklet on another desk.

It was the assignment given earlier. He aced it with help from his higher IQ, of course.

"Wait!"

Roy raised his head sharply, grabbed a pen, and opened a book to a blank page.

He scribbled words down on the page and stared intently at his writing.

"With the evidence gathered, will Suzuki Kyouno be complicit in Yoshida Aiko’s murder?"

"Yes/No."

"What about Daichi-sensei, the math teacher? Does his involvement in the rumour that will soon spread about his affair with a student (Yoshida Aiko) make him a prime suspect?"

"Yes/No."

"If yes, in what manner? Is he an accomplice to Suzuki Kyouno or a victim? How true is the rumour?"

"Answer:___"

"If Suzuki Kyouno is going to try to kill Yoshida Aiko soon, what would be the best course of action for me, Haruto Takahashi, to take?"

"Answer:___"

He formulated the questions in order of complexity to truly gauge the limits of his IQ stat.

As Roy stared at the first and second questions, just like when he answered test questions, a bright light arose on the answers.

"With the evidence gathered, will Suzuki Kyouno be complicit in Yoshida Aiko’s murder?"

"(Yes)."

"What about Daichi-sensei, the math teacher? Does his involvement in the rumour that will soon spread about his affair with a student (Yoshida Aiko) make him a prime suspect?"

"(Yes)."

The corner of Roy’s lips curled upward. He really made the smart choice by investing in only Takahashi’s IQ stat.

’Takahashi is practically smarter than me—Wait, that’s not right...’

Roy knew it wasn’t that these answers were the concrete, undeniable truth but were instead just simple, definite assertions a truly intelligent mind would make with what had been observed so far, drawing from his memories of watching Pierre’s previous attempts to clear this level and the present occurrences.

For the remaining questions, the answers appeared in his mind.

"If yes, in what manner? Is he an accomplice to Suzuki Kyouno or a victim? How true is the rumour?"

"Answer: Daichi-sensei sounds more like a victim, for now. But more observation is required, especially on his interactions with Yoshida Aiko. Until then, the validity of the rumour remains ambiguous. Also, check Aiko’s character profile to see if she is that kind of girl."

’Oh, dammit. Aiko’s profile! That’s something I should’ve checked first when I arrived here. Goddammit. My stats don’t give me any intelligence boost. Am I going to be dumb forever?’ Tears welled up in the corners of Roy’s eyes. His comfort was that for now, he could take advantage of Takahashi’s intelligence, and Pierre seemed to favour his Appeal over IQ.

So in essence, that handsome brat won’t be truly smarter than him anytime soon.

’I should also check Daichi-sensei’s profile too...’

"If Suzuki Kyouno is going to try to kill Yoshida Aiko soon, what would be the best course of action for me, Haruto Takahashi, to take?"

"Answer: It would be best to be in control of ’when’ it would happen, and how. The best way to achieve this is to instigate Suzuki Kyouno to act earlier than she should. Her emotions are already about to burst, as it seems."

Roy rubbed his chin. Instigation. How could he possibly instigate Suzuki?

Despite his minor intellect, the dots connected, and a light bulb appeared above his head.

He snapped his fingers. "I can tell her about what Pierre asked me to do for him!"

Roy thought about it a bit more and nodded.

"Yeah. That’ll for sure get her all riled up. And after, I just have to watch her closely to know her plans."

Roy was satisfied with this progress, successfully scheming to make a girl experience a mental breakdown with a smile on his face. Who would’ve thought he could receive answers in this manner?

Although staring at the questions, another confusing concept emerged in his mind.

’But system, how is this happening? How can I be shown the answers to my written questions, but when I think of them, there’s nothing? I’m sure if I ask aloud, there will still be nothing. Why is writing them down necessary to put the IQ stat in motion?’

[...Host, it is because it then becomes a test, at which the character, Haruto Takahashi, should be intelligent enough to answer. Host, you are not Haturo Takahashi.]

’...Sheesh. Fine, I get it.’

Was Roy hallucinating it? Or was his monotone and unbothered system sounding a bit fed up this time?

Roy shrugged and waited until recess was over and his classmates returned, including Yoshida Aiko.

’She doesn’t seem to be the type to engage in such actions with a teacher. I mean, she hates everything about romance with every fiber of her being. Much like me.’ Roy lied to himself.

Yoshida Aiko caught his gaze and smiled gently before sitting down in her seat at the front row of the class.

Roy felt a burning gaze on him and turned to his right. Utahime was staring daggers at him, and a bead of sweat formed on the corner of his forehead.

He even caught the gaze of another, Pierre.

Roy, as Takahashi, sheepishly faced forward and bent his head down, taking an involuntary gulp.

Shh~

The classroom door slid, and in walked a man in a white button-up long-sleeve shirt, a dark blue tie, and black trousers. He wore rectangular glasses and had slightly ruffled dark brown hair. He was skinny and had an oddly curved back.

"Speak of the devil..." Roy muttered.

Of course, it was Daichi-sensei, the math teacher.

"Good day, class. Can someone stand up and revise the class on what I taught you last time?"

He began his lesson, but Roy was focused on something else.

His character profile.

’I guess the information presented in the character profiles is what is observed on the surface level. Of course, secrets couldn’t be revealed in such an easy way,’ Roy deduced.

A while later, the closing bell rang, and Pierre was off to ask Yoshida Aiko to mentor him.

Meanwhile, Roy quickly left to find Suzuki Kyouno.

He found her walking down the hallway, placed a paper in her uniform suit pocket, and whispered, "Don’t let anyone read this."

And he kept walking straight.

She opened the paper.

’Pierre asked me to tell my girlfriend to say good things about him to Yoshida Aiko. I saw how he treated you earlier today, and thought I should let you know.’

She turned around sharply and shouted, "Wait!"

But Roy was already gone from her sight.

She looked at the name ’Yoshida Aiko’ on the paper and lowered her head.

Tightening her fist, it crumbled within, and her shoulders shuddered.

A dark shadow hung above her eyes.

Roy carefully watched her from the corner of the stairs.

She raised her head, forced a smile, and continued on her way.

"Now, let’s wait and see."

"Wait and see what?"

A male voice asked Roy, and he turned sharply.

Right there was the second suspect involved in Aiko’s imminent death... Murasame Daichi.

"N-Nothing, sir."

He placed a hand on Takahashi’s shoulder and patted him twice.

"Takahashi-kun, continue being a good student, okay?"

He gave a light smile and walked away.

Roy nodded and walked away, but backtracked and followed Daichi-sensei.

The man remained in the staffroom for some minutes, but came out and headed for the school swimming pool, where the original Hanabira Reina had her body stolen and soul displaced by a devil.

There, Daichi-sensei waited for someone.

Roy watched from a distance when he noticed a pink-haired girl with a weary expression arrive and enter the indoor area.

It was the Class Rep, Yoshida Aiko.
