Chapter 44: Performance Ratings

Pierre raised his hand to pick an option from the two displayed, but paused and looked around.

"No glitch this time," he muttered. "I’ll go with Option B, then..."

However, just as he was about to tap, the middle of the pink-themed panel caved in, and a dark-blue-themed one overlapped it, glitching in and out with a short message.

» ¥ØỮ ҜŇØŴ ŴĦΔŦ ŦØ ĐØ. Ř€ŞŦΔŘŦ. «

Pierre took a large gulp and screamed, "Who are you?! What the hell do you want from me?!"

Of course, there was no response. Only the cold, glitching phrase before him that soon disappeared.

[Host, please pick an option to continue signing in.]

"Fuck..." Pierre palmed his face and stared at the options, extremely wary but also interested in whatever this mysterious entity wanted to show him.

It was obvious they wasted his time before, but what if they were just testing his patience? This was common in those stories where grandmasters would ruminate on taking on the main character as a disciple.

And for someone like Pierre, the choice was already obvious.

[You have selected Option (A), restarting the simulation in 10...]

Roy just smirked and clicked his tongue. "How predictable."

Who didn’t want to be in the spotlight?

[3... 2... 1... And it begins!]

And as usual, Pierre woke up in his bed and was greeted with the set of information narrated by that female voice he had started to find annoying.

[Main Story #1 — Love at First Sight]

Current Stage: Class B – 1st Semester, 1st Year.

Target: [Watanabe Hinata].

"System, switch to real-world time," Roy said, and the happenings of Pierre’s system became more like a movie for him.

Roy wasn’t too interested in these beginning stages. It wasn’t until Pierre got to Level 5 that he started paying attention.

[Main Story #5 — Cleared!]

[Rewards: 1.0 Stat Points, 40 Love Points.]

Roy had his Null Archive already open. When the stage began, he had tapped on the Performance Rating Module, spending 10 error points.

[Level 5]

[Performance Rating: 5/5]

Roy clicked his tongue. "Not this level either."

Deducting the error points he used to inject the one line of code in Pierre’s system, he currently possessed 45 error points.

Pierre moved on to the next stage, Main Story #6.

The girl of this stage was his junior, who her classmates constantly bullied. Pierre had to create time between breaks and after school to converse with her and hope to win her heart.

She was a fairly tough nut to crack, but he got the kiss in the end and made her his girlfriend.

After Pierre was shown his stage-clear message, Roy was shown the ratings.

[Level 6]

[Performance Rating: 5/5]

"Fuck!" Roy grabbed his hair. That was another 10 error points down the drain.

"These shits are hard to get, goddammit!" He screamed.

And truly it was so. As Roy levelled up more, error points would be even harder to get as the EXP threshold kept on widening, meaning he would have more abyss creatures on his plate to kill.

Roy sighed. "But I knew this when I decided to try this method. Hidden boss stages were hard to find in a level set. I just hope it’s not hiding in the lower levels I ignored."

Pierre quickly began his Main Story #7, but since Roy had already checked this stage before, he decided not to pay it any mind. Moreover, he was tired of seeing that crazy Tanaka Misaki’s face when she stabbed Pierre over and over again.

Of course, Level 7 quickly drew to an end, and Pierre found himself reading the information of Level 8 for what was at least the third time.

[Main Story #8 — The Devil Wears Glasses]

Current Stage: Class A – 1st Semester, 2nd Year.

Target: [Hanabira Reina].

Story Description: "Hanabira Reina is President of the Occult Club, and has always set her eyes on anything spiritual, mystical, and rumors say—demonic. Smart, logical, and bespectacled, she is seen as an outcast and feared by all. No one knows she bears a lonely heart beneath her big chest. Oh, who can come to her rescue?"

Difficulty: MEDIUM.

Objectives:

1. Join the occult club.

2. Make her your girlfriend.

3. Share a genuine kiss with her.

Rewards: +0.5 Stat Points, +75 Love Points.

Final Remark: Um... try to get yourself a rosary. Good luck, Host!

Pierre invested the stat points he just earned in his Luck stat. Compared to his previous runs, this was the stat he focused more on now. He hoped that, through sheer luck, even if the mysterious entity was just messing with him, he could pass Level 10.

He sprang up from his bed and immediately walked over to the wardrobe.

[A: Goth Style Uniform.]

[B: On-the-spectrum Style Uniform.]

[C: Pervert Style Uniform.]

He sighed and chose Option A again. He had stuck with the decision he made before to create more varied options for himself when he got to Level 10.

Roy didn’t bother to sit around and watched the entire stage play before his eyes in the sped-up version.

[...Hanabira Reina falls in love and agrees to be your girlfriend. You lift her hair covering her face, and see she’s very beautiful. You both share a genuine kiss.]

Before Pierre, everything went dark, and the closing panel appeared before him.

[Main Story #8 — Cleared!]

[Rewards: 0.5 Stat Points, 75 Love Points.]

"Yay..." he unenthusiastically voiced. "You know, if you have something for me, tell me! I can’t keep repeating these stages for no reason!"

Pierre grumbled and complained throughout the previous stages, but Roy never responded. Error points were far too precious to spend on frivolous things like giving Pierre hope.

Meanwhile, Roy spent another ten error points on the Performance Rating Module, and the results came in quickly.

[Level 8]

[Performance Rating: 3/5]

Roy jumped up from the floor he was sitting on and stared at the ratings panel with a wide grin.

"So you’re hiding in Level 8, huh?"

He spent another five error points on the Code Injector Module, and an empty page and keyboard appeared before him once again.

Just when the interface updated its message for Pierre, counting down to the next main story, it glitched once again, and another short phrase appeared.

» Δ Ş€ĆŘ€Ŧ ŁƗ€Ş ƗŇ Ş-€ƗǤĦŦ «

Pierre had already appeared in Level 9, but he sprang up from his bed with widened eyes.
