Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan-Chapter 77 - 76: Cardinal Tyr, the Miracle Descends Again
Swamp Territory, the Baron’s Mansion.
Night had fallen, but the mansion was brightly lit.
Baron York sat on one side of a long conference table, while Resident Priest Oleg and a dozen or so missionaries who had rushed here from all over sat on the other.
"On the second day after our Main God’s Oracle descended, I sent a Magic Letter to His Eminence Cardinal Tyr. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive a reply. Now that the situation has deteriorated to this point, I don’t know where he has gone. He could be dead, or perhaps he’s been thrown into the Royal Family’s dungeons."
Oleg said, his expression tinged with worry.
"A Cardinal? Tyr?"
York’s expression tightened upon hearing this.
He quickly frowned, a sense of alarm creeping in. "Resident Priest Oleg, if I recall correctly, is this Cardinal Tyr one of the six Cardinals?"
"Can he be trusted? Did you not consider the consequences of putting your faith in the wrong person?"
Oleg sighed and said frankly:
"You need not worry about that, Lord Baron. Tyr has dedicated his entire life to our Main God."
"Power and money mean nothing to him. He has never even left behind any heirs in this world. To him, all worldly temptations are but dust."
"His faith is beyond question. And while he is one of the Cardinals, he holds no real authority within the Church. His life has been dedicated solely to missionary work and instructing the Believers in Truth on matters of faith."
"Including myself, half the people here were actually taught by him."
"As our revered teacher, no one understands his devotion to our Lord better than we do."
"He is merely a devout Ascetic, and an incredibly benevolent old man."
York’s expression softened at these words.
But upon suddenly hearing this news, York grew puzzled again.
"Cardinal Tyr is your revered teacher, Resident Priest Oleg? Then you...?"
York’s meaning was simple.
In the Truth Church, the six Cardinals were the most powerful figures under the Pope.
Even if this Tyr truly held no real authority, with his status, it should have been no problem to protect Oleg back then, right? How could Oleg have ended up as a lowly Resident Missionary?
To this, Oleg gave a bitter smile.
"It is precisely because my teacher is an Ascetic, and because he is devoted only to our Lord, that he is, in a sense, a very... emotionally detached person."
"In any case, if you have the chance to meet him, Lord Baron, you will understand."
Oleg didn’t want to say more, but York’s mind was already racing.
York had certainly heard of the renowned Cardinal Tyr.
After all, this Cardinal was a legendary figure in the Truth Church.
Three hundred years ago, he participated in the war against the Beastmen, which was led by the Storm God.
A young prodigy, he reached the High Tiers in just a century. As a Defender Knight, his performance on the battlefield was nothing short of brilliant, and he slew over ten thousand Beastmen.
Unfortunately, he was gravely wounded by the Beast God’s mortal vessel and his progress has stagnated ever since.
But even so, he still possessed the Power of a Tier Seven, or even a Tier Eight. Living for five hundred years should not have been a problem for him.
By that calculation, however, this legendary old man likely did not have much time left.
Even so, given his status as an instructing Cardinal within the Church, the number of missionaries he had taught must be considerable.
No wonder he, despite his advanced age, still held his seat as one of the six Cardinals.
If Oleg could persuade him to help, the benefit to the Swamp Territory would be immense.
Therefore, thinking of all this, York immediately said, full of apology:
"I see. It seems I have wronged you, Resident Priest Oleg!"
Oleg waved his hand dismissively.
"There is no need for that, Lord. It is only natural for you to have such concerns."
"However, more importantly, I would like to know what your plans are, Lord?"
"The Duke’s Mansion has already issued a notice. If this becomes too difficult to handle, perhaps you could hand me over."
"It has always been our long-held wish to sacrifice ourselves for the God of Truth."
Oleg’s expression was earnest and devout.
After all, Oleg’s missionary work in the Swamp Territory was public knowledge. If York didn’t hand him over, or even lied about it, it would easily arouse the Duke’s Mansion’s suspicion.
York, however, was unconcerned.
After all, just yesterday he had contacted the Rock Steel Giant. He even knew that His Majesty Lince had not rushed back to his Divine Kingdom, but was still lingering in the Wilderness Territory using his vessel’s body.
York didn’t dare ask what he was doing, nor would he. But he figured His Majesty must have his reasons.
Besides, at this very moment, the great Your Majesty was surely watching this scene unfold.
Thus, York was about to say something.
However, just then, a knock came from the door.
"My Lord, I apologize for interrupting your meeting, but an old missionary is outside. He specifically asked to see Resident Priest Oleg and you, my Lord."
The voice of the Knight’s Squire, Paul, came from outside.
Resident Priest Oleg and York exchanged a look, and then York spoke.
"Bring him in."
Soon, Paul returned and opened the doors to the conference room, revealing an old man in a gray robe to York and Oleg.
The old man’s back was bent, and his gray robe was covered in dust.
York was about to ask the old man’s identity, but in the next moment, Oleg and several missionaries beside him cried out in shock:
"Lord Tyr?!"
"You are Lord Tyr?!"
Tyr?
York was stunned.
The old man pulled back his hood, his expression possessing a dignity unlike that of an ordinary person.
Though his face was filled with wrinkles and his frame was so withered he looked to be on the verge of death.
But his spirit was remarkably vigorous.
York didn’t know how to describe that spirit, but he finally understood what it meant to be an Ascetic!
This Ascetic glanced at Oleg and the others, giving a slight nod before turning his gaze to York.
His eyes were incredibly sharp.
He stared at York and spoke bluntly:
"You must be the Lord here, Baron York?"
"Then, please tell me everything about our Lord! Of course, Oleg, I also wish to hear a detailed account of what you have witnessed."
"If you wish to change everything, to save as many innocent lives in the Kingdom as possible, then tell me, and convince me of it all!"
The old man’s voice was thunderous, and his words were not the least bit polite.
But York could still faintly detect a tremor hidden in the old man’s tone.
It was the result of him forcefully suppressing the emotions in his heart.
York and Oleg exchanged another look and were just about to speak.
But then, a sudden development occurred.
Because York heard an Oracle!
The moment the Oracle arrived, York’s expression became incredibly emotional.
So, York suppressed his emotions and spoke solemnly to the old man:
"Bishop Tyr, you are truly the most devout believer of the God of Truth."
"Our Lord, the noble, great, and benevolent Your Majesty, has noticed your arrival. He has once again sent down an Oracle."
"He will grant you an audience."
As soon as York said this, Oleg and the dozen or so missionaries all froze.
The old man’s gaze also went blank for a moment, and then his body trembled again, so subtly that no one noticed.
The old man closed his eyes, as if composing himself.
When he opened them again, he looked at York with a gentle gaze and performed a deep chest-salute.
"Then, I shall trouble you to lead the way, Lord Baron."
Without any hesitation, late at night, the gates of the Baron Castle opened once more.
Then, a group of people on horseback rode out in a line.
Their destination was the deep forest east of the Swamp Territory.
And to welcome their arrival, Lince had already prepared everything.
It was time for a spectacular, unrestrained Miracle!!!
And the night was perfect for maximizing the effect of the Miracle!
Deep in the forest, the Rock Steel Giant stood up.
He looked up at the sky.
Dark clouds roiled, obscuring the moon and hiding the stars.
Perfect for the ’Divine Descent’ special effect.
Thankfully, he had entered the game on Inference Day, and the various game function options were still present in his consciousness.
Otherwise, Lince might have missed a huge opportunity this time.
Yes, this was a chance to gamble—to gamble on an opportunity to reveal himself openly in the Eagle Kingdom.
Of course, there were many risks involved, but now was the best time to take that gamble.
If he missed it, he might never get another chance!
So, this time, Lince was going all in!
Fortunately, he still had the Gate of Truth as an escape route. Otherwise, he would never have made such a bold choice!
It was bold, but it was all worth it.
Cardinal Tyr’s status was just too special!
’How many ’students’ would he have taught in over three hundred years?’
His influence was definitely no weaker than that of the Truth Church’s Pope; it might even surpass it.
No wonder such an old man on the verge of death could hold his seat as a Cardinal for three hundred years in a Church already corrupted by the secular world, with only the strength of a Tier Seven.
Yes, under Lince’s gaze, nothing could be hidden. The system directly displayed the information.
A bright caption displaying ’Tier Seven’ hung above the Cardinal’s head.
’Tier Seven... not that strong, but his status is what’s special and important.’
If he could win his trust, then everything would fall into place. After that, Lince and the Swamp Territory wouldn’t even need to do anything.
The only thing to do would be to wait—wait for this Cardinal to stand on high and let out a rallying cry.
After that, everything could be left to fate.
Of course, some details could probably be manipulated, but it was too early to talk about that now.
This all depended on whether Lince could truly win the Cardinal’s trust.
’It all comes down to this gamble. I hope I haven’t made the wrong choice!’
Lince’s expression was extremely grave. Switching his vision, he perceived that York was approaching the center of the forest.
The next moment, the Rock Steel Giant let out the most thunderous, draconic roar of its life!
At the same time, with a violent RUMBLE, the Rock Steel Giant shot up into the high heavens like an arrow.
