Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan-Chapter 56: The Benefits of Character Cards, Lince’s Change
It turned out that even as a Player in the True Game, becoming a Transcendent didn’t make one seem all that powerful.
A single accident, a moment of carelessness, or even a targeted assassination could get you eliminated from the game for good.
In the end, the Power that all Players currently possessed was merely external.
Living in this incredibly peaceful and safe modern world, most Players didn’t have a strong sense of danger.
This made it all the more likely for accidents to occur.
Therefore, this incident was definitely not an isolated case. As the second round of game invitations were sent out, events like this would surely become more frequent.
This incident served as a sudden wake-up call for Lince.
Character Cards were useful, but they weren’t passive abilities. If a Player hadn’t developed the subconscious habit of using them, it was easy for similar tragedies to occur.
Take Ghost Fire Minister from the group chat, for example. If he had a subconscious, reflexive instinct to use his Character Card the moment he fell, this tragedy would have been avoided.
’Looks like I need to get used to using the Power of my Character Cards more often!’
’I have to make it a reflex! The moment I sense danger, I need to subconsciously equip and use the Character Card’s Power!’
In the master bedroom, Lince sat up. He stared at the chat on his phone, his expression turning serious.
’Right now, I can use a Character Card for thirty minutes a day. I should spend at least fifteen of those minutes adapting to its Power!’
’I’ll save the other fifteen minutes as a backup, just in case something unexpected happens in the real world.’
Lince muttered to himself.
’Plus, I have Knight York’s Servant Card, which means I have another half hour to get familiar with York’s Knightly Power.’
’The Knight Card, huh?’
Lince got out of bed, quickly stripped off his clothes, and focused his thoughts.
The next moment, currents of air swirled around Lince as a powerful aura erupted from him.
His slender, geeky frame began to swell, and his height rose slightly to around one meter eighty-two.
His skin took on a bronze hue, and his eyes grew sharp.
In an instant, both Lince’s physique and his entire presence had transformed.
"SQUEAK! SQUEAK SQUEAK!!!"
The moment Lince’s presence and physique changed, one of the two small hamsters in the cage by his computer desk scurried into its nest in fright.
The other, however, seemed to sense something. It stopped nibbling on the seed it was holding, stared blankly up at Lince, and suddenly let out a series of joyful squeaks.
"???"
Lince looked down at the white hamster. Seeing its big, adorable eyes staring up at him, he paused thoughtfully before squatting down and opening the cage.
The next moment, the white hamster eagerly scrambled onto Lince’s palm.
Looking at the white hamster, which now seemed much more alert and Spiritual, Lince found it quite interesting.
’Did its Spiritual attribute increase because it equipped the Rat King Character Card?’
Lince didn’t say anything more. He placed the little white hamster on the floor and, with a thought, its form instantly and drastically changed!
Once again, the large white rat, now the size of a full-grown house cat, appeared.
"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!!!"
Having received the Power of the Character Card again, the little creature, its Spiritual nature now even more active, let out an extremely joyful cry and began running circles around Lince’s feet.
"You sure lucked out, little guy."
’But do Character Cards really have this kind of power? Do they subtly enhance the user’s Physique or Spiritual nature over time?’
’Or does this only happen when the Character Card’s Race matches the user? Or can the main Character Card do it too?’
Lince picked up the cat-sized white rat, petting it as he mulled things over.
’If that’s the case, maybe I can experiment with it myself.’
’But it’s obviously inconvenient to use the Character Card’s Power in the city. It’s too easy to cause a commotion, which would attract unwanted attention.’
For a moment, Lince was troubled.
However, he quickly calmed himself.
’No need to rush. I don’t need to be so desperate to gain Power right now.’
’Besides, the more I rush, the more likely I am to make a mistake.’
’A mistake could mean exposure, or an even more painful price.’
’So I have to be steady.’
Besides, even if using a Character Card could directly enhance his real-world body, the improvement would likely be minuscule.
So, for now, all he needed to do was wait for the next game update.
The projection interface had already appeared, so it couldn’t be long before they could bring items back to the real world.
The direct boost from various Extraordinary Artifacts and materials would be far better than what he could achieve with just half an hour of training each day.
Besides, if the usage time for Character Cards was eventually extended, or if he could one day transform at will, then any Power he gained from training on his own would be insignificant.
Therefore, Lince could afford to wait.
With his mind at ease, Lince naturally began to relax.
He closed his eyes, focusing on the ’Inheritance Information’ flowing from the Knight Card.
Martial Techniques, Physique, everything flashed through Lince’s mind like instinctive muscle memory.
WHOOSH!!!
The moment he opened his eyes, Lince threw a straight punch.
In the next instant, the faint sound of his fist cutting through the air echoed in the room.
The force of his punch!
The Tier Two Knight Card provided ten percent of its Power. Just by standing still and punching, he could generate a fierce gust of wind and the sound of displaced air.
The Power amplification was truly impressive.
And one mustn’t forget that Knight York’s specialty was Gale Swordsmanship.
If Lince had a sword right now, he felt that killing someone would be effortless. Combined with the Gale Body Technique and the Power amplification from his Extraordinary Bloodline, he’d be unstoppable.
Lince felt that it would be difficult for just a few people with guns to harm him.
After all, the Power from a Character Card was a comprehensive enhancement. Extraordinary Power was highly sensitive to danger; perhaps Lince could accurately sense the very moment someone drew a gun and immediately take evasive or counter-offensive action.
Feeling the Power of the Character Card, the corners of Lince’s mouth turned up slightly.
’It seems I was overthinking things. Character Cards aren’t so inconvenient after all.’
’I don’t necessarily need a real combat situation to adapt and improve myself with the Character Card.’
’While the card is equipped, even if a Player does nothing, just by quietly comprehending the ’Inheritance Information’ it transmits, I can constantly adapt to its Power and even improve.’
’Good! Excellent!’
Lince didn’t attempt any more movements. It was late, and he was worried about his neighbors complaining about the noise.
So, he sat quietly on his bed, closed his eyes, and began to continuously receive and feel the Power and information transmitted from the Knight Card.
After he finished using Knight York’s Character Card, Lince immediately used the Rock Dragon Giant Lizard Card.
And so, after the usage time for both cards had expired, Lince finally went to sleep around three-thirty in the morning.
As for the Player forums and chat groups, he was in no mood to deal with them and chose to ignore them for now.
He went to sleep, his alarm set for eight in the morning.
