Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan-Chapter 32: What the Deities Hate Is the Enemy
’Is it because he’s a friendly unit? Is that why Consciousness Descent didn’t trigger?’
Lince speculated.
But none of that mattered. Whether or not a plot point triggered was irrelevant to Lince right now.
After all, he believed that every Player’s function interface probably had a similar "Consciousness Descent" option.
It was just that Lince’s playstyle required his Descent function to come with charlatan-esque special effects.
The effects were great—divine light filled the sky, and it could even strike the ground like a massive Laser Cannon.
If used at night, he would absolutely be the flashiest thing in the world.
And it was precisely because the special effects were so effective that Lince decided he would never use them again.
For no other reason than it was too high-profile. With his current Power, he was genuinely afraid that being so ostentatious would get his Rock Dragon Giant Lizard turned into a kebab by the Church’s Clergy.
So, Consciousness Descent was fine, but the special effects had to be turned off.
And so, when he found that triggering this simple plot point didn’t let his consciousness enter the game, Lince immediately switched his first-person perspective to York.
At the same time, he clicked "Divine Call."
After doing all that, Lince switched back to the Rock Dragon Giant Lizard’s screen and directly clicked "Descent."
This time, the process was flawless.
In reality, Lince buried his head and lay down on the small pillow he had prepared.

York was currently overcome with excitement and elation.
After all, it had been nearly a year!
Both of the previous two Divine Descents had brought about monumental changes in York’s life.
The first Divine Descent, a Divine Grace from the Divine Favor, had allowed him to become the Deity’s servant walking the mortal world, granting him the entire Swamp Territory as his domain and ultimately his title of Baron.
The second Divine Descent, another Divine Grace from the Divine Favor, caused his Bloodline to undergo a second awakening. Within a mere five days, he made the leap to Tier Two in strength.
Keep in mind, he had only become a Tier One Official Knight just six months before pioneering the new territory.
Just think about it: a Knight who had just made his Initial Entry into the Extraordinary Realm possessed the strength to advance again in less than a year.
In the entire Eagle Kingdom or Silver Lion Duchy, this was explosive news.
Under normal circumstances, not even the greatest genius could achieve consecutive Limit Breaks within a single year.
According to the established Extraordinary knowledge of this world’s Nobility, the best time to begin training a member of the Human Race for the Knight class was around the age of six.
At six, they would start familiarizing themselves with a Meditation Method to train their Spiritual Willpower, while also gently practicing various forms of Swordsmanship and Body Techniques.
Only after turning ten could they begin to use the power of Meditation for gradual and gentle body tempering.
After all, children at this age are still growing, so crude, aggressive body tempering and overtaxing their Spirit are absolutely out of the question.
This continues until they reach the age of adulthood in this world—sixteen—at which point the children of Nobility can attempt the first ritual to awaken the Extraordinary Power within their Bloodline.
If they failed to awaken their Extraordinary Power before their coming-of-age ceremony, they would need about three years to recover from the hidden physical injuries caused by the ritual’s failure before they could attempt it again.
If that attempt also failed, the next would be in four to five years. If they failed again, the toll on their body, Spirit, and Bloodline would grow even greater, naturally requiring an even longer recovery time.
But generally speaking, if a person still couldn’t awaken their Extraordinary Power after five rituals, it meant their aptitude and Potential were extremely low, and they were no longer suited for the path of Extraordinary Power.
And what about York?
Awkwardly enough, he had succeeded on his third ritual.
Fortunately, it wasn’t after the fifth attempt. Unfortunately, the Smith family was, after all, merely a Baron Clan with a Low Tier Bloodline.
Awakening his Extraordinary Power only on the third ritual meant York’s Potential had basically hit rock bottom.
And this was the true reason for York’s thin, Low Tier Bloodline and his Half-Star Potential.
For the lowest rank of Nobility like a Baron Clan, with the lowest tier of Bloodline, even if they awakened their full Bloodline at sixteen and entered Tier One, it would normally take at least ten years of tempering their Spirit and body to reach Tier Two.
Therefore, under normal circumstances, anyone with a Low Tier Bloodline who could reach Tier Two within ten years was considered to have absolutely outstanding innate aptitude.
They would even be considered quite good when compared to noble families with Middle Tier Bloodlines.
But was York such a person of outstanding talent?
Obviously not.
That’s why when it was revealed that York already possessed Tier Two strength during his previous battle with the Demon Beast, it immediately caused quite a stir and much discussion.
Fortunately, however, York’s father, Baron Eric, stepped forward in time.
He claimed that York had actually entered Tier One during his coming-of-age ceremony at sixteen. However, Baron Eric felt that York still needed to temper his disposition and didn’t want him to attract too much attention, so he had York hide his abilities.
Otherwise, if York had truly only entered the Extraordinary Realm at the age of 24 after his third ritual, how could Baron Eric possibly have agreed to let him go on adventures alone, let alone pioneer new lands? (He is now 25.)
Wouldn’t that be sending him to his death?
And what’s more, after Baron Eric’s explanation, almost all the Nobility believed it.
After all, this was a very normal occurrence.
What was the status of York’s mother? She was merely a maid. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
In this world of strict class hierarchy, she could never have any real status or even a formal title. At best, she could only be considered Baron Eric’s lover or mistress.
Therefore, the status of the child she bore, York, was naturally quite low.
Even if York’s aptitude was outstanding, Baron Eric could never pass the position of Patriarch on to him!
The Nobility have their own sense of propriety and their own rules.
If an illegitimate son became the Patriarch, not only would he be ridiculed by other nobles and find it difficult to integrate into their circles, but Baron Eric’s wife’s maternal family would also hold him accountable.
So, even if York’s talent was exceptional, the best way to avoid trouble was to keep him on the sidelines for a while. Then, at the appropriate time, they would send him to pioneer new lands and establish a branch of the noble family.
And in fact, this was what the vast majority of Nobility in this world did.
As for suppressing or harming talented illegitimate children, such things did happen, but it was rare for a noble to do so.
After all, although the Nobility of this world prided themselves on being high and mighty, Power often spoke loudest. An illegitimate son was still an heir, a descendant of one’s own Bloodline. The benefits of establishing a branch family were numerous, so under normal circumstances, most nobles wouldn’t do something so foolish.
Therefore, Baron Eric’s explanation was naturally unassailable.
It also served to shield York from some unnecessary trouble.
In short, for York to have reached Tier Two so quickly, one could only imagine how grateful he was to the "Divine Favor."
Of course, York wasn’t the only one grateful to the Divine Favor.
His wife, Lucia, felt the same way.
Previously, Lucia had been worried about the Deity behind the Rock Dragon Giant Lizard.
But ever since receiving the Deity’s reward and learning of the powerful Oracle Potions, her perspective had shifted beyond imagination.
In Lince’s eyes, it was just a set of ten Mid-Efficacy Healing Potions.
But in Lucia’s eyes, they were life-saving Holy Medicines.
This was because on the entire Oklar Continent, no potion with such potent effects existed.
Not in the Alchemy Association, and certainly not in the Pharmacist Association!
The Healing Potions circulating in the market could, at best, only heal minor injuries. Even more potent ones capable of treating serious wounds required a slow absorption time and a lengthy recovery period. Most importantly, they were incredibly expensive.
But the Oracle Potions?
Even a single potion, diluted with ordinary water to make ten servings, had an extremely fast and effective healing effect!
A severe injury could be completely healed in just half an hour. The sight of large wounds closing, with granulation tissue rapidly tangling and writhing as it regenerated, was nothing short of terrifying.
One can imagine just how precious this Divine Medicine was in this world.
This also made Lucia treasure the four remaining Oracle Potions immensely.
As for the Divine Favor... oh, and there was also the Giant-Teeth Rat Demon Beast Swarm He had granted them.
Therefore, in Lucia’s eyes, this great, unknown Deity certainly couldn’t have any malicious intent toward mortals like them.
After all, this Deity could allow York to reach Tier Two with but a single word, and could bestow Divine Medicine capable of saving countless lives with a wave of His hand.
’If He truly bore them ill will, could she and York possibly stand in His way?’
So, by this point, Lucia had long since been "assimilated" by York.
It was just as York often said in response to Lucia’s previous worries.
Even if this Deity possessed "malice," that "malice" certainly wouldn’t be directed at them in the Swamp Territory.
After all, the Deity had already shown York and Lucia immense Divine Favor.
Therefore, the target of the Deity’s "malice" must be the enemies of the Swamp Territory!
’And since they are enemies, what reason is there not to destroy them according to the Deity’s will?’
