Chapter 157: The Artillery

At this point, every Foreign Survivor was aware of the source of the EMP Grenade that Claire had just used.

As a matter of fact, they could only think of one source, the Gene Trader!

"That’s ten thousand experience points, right?"

"Why did she use it so early? We can still take care of them."

"It’s fine! Let’s just finish them off!"

"Thank you, Claire!"

"Ten thousand... It’s gone, just like that."

Claire smiled faintly as she raised her bat, her eyes fixed on the battlefield. She had already thrown the grenade, and now all they could do was wait.

It hit the ground, rolled once, and then three seconds later, it detonated.

Boom!

A shockwave of blue light burst outward, spreading across the battlefield like a tidal wave. The pulse rippled through the air, shaking the ground beneath their feet.

Even the walls of the shelter trembled under the force!

"Ahh! Stay on your feet!" Wallace shouted, bracing himself as the wave expanded in every direction, washing over the Dragoons and Sentinels.

The grenade didn’t just buy them precious time, it disrupted the enemy formation and cut their numbers.

"Ugh... As expected, they’re not dropping..." Claire muttered, narrowing her eyes. Those positioned farther back weren’t as affected. The EMP wasn’t an instant kill against the Sentinels and Dragoons.

She could only guess that they had some kind of shielding technology protecting their core components. Still, the grenade had damaged several systems, frying circuits and disrupting their functions.

"Don’t waste this chance, you guys!" Claire reminded, her voice sharp and commanding.

Many of the machines were frozen, their limbs locked, but she knew it wouldn’t last forever. The mechanized army was tough, and their systems would eventually reboot.

"Destroy them while they’re down!" Wallace shouted.

This time, the defenders drew their close‑combat weapons. Guns didn’t have the piercing power needed against these stunned enemies. Blunt weapons, hammers, and swords would be far more effective.

Wallace, Farrah, and the rest of the defenders laughed as the EMP blast shifted the battlefield in their favor.

The Dragoons struggled to stay airborne. Their engines sputtered, spewing smoke, and sparks erupted from their cores. Several dropped in altitude, crashing hard into the dirt.

Boom! Boom!

Others hovered weakly, unable to maintain proper flight, but it didn’t take long for them, as they were also caught by Wallace!

On the ground, the remaining Sentinels convulsed.

Their glowing eyes blinked uncontrollably as their limbs stiffened, and their weapons clattered uselessly to the ground!

"Destroy them all! Hahaha!" someone shouted. "EMP is the best!" another cheered.

Claire grinned as she watched the defenders charge forward, pummeling the Sentinels and Dragoons.

Alfie also roared as he charged into a crippled Sentinel, smashing its chest with all his might! After his third swing, the machine’s core shattered!

The reward was small, but no one cared. The important thing was survival.

Wallace dashed across the wall, directing fire at the grounded Dragoons.

Even Ralph’s shots rang out, targeting exposed joints to keep the machines from recovering!

The Dragoons that had fallen were crippled but not completely destroyed.

Thanks to the EMP, however, they were unable to function properly. Survivors swarmed them, smashing into their frames with bats, hammers, and scavenged blades. Even sparks flew as metal was dented and torn apart.

The Sentinels suffered the same fate. Their stunned bodies were battered until their cores shattered one by one.

"Hahaha! You’re all overestimating yourselves! Attacking us with mere 20 units?!" Claire spat at this thought before she continued!

"Everyone, we got this!" Claire shouted as she swung her bat into another Sentinel. She struck its head repeatedly until its systems collapsed in a shower of sparks.

Finally, after a few moments, the battlefield quieted.

The defenders stood among the wreckage, panting, bloodied, but victorious.

"Hahaha! Everyone! Good job!" Claire called out, her voice carrying across the wall.

Soon, Victor, their mechanic, rushed forward, his eyes were almost shining as he examined the remains of the Dragoons!

"The flight engines..." he muttered, almost reverently. "If we can salvage even one, we might be able to replicate the technology. Imagine what this could mean for us... aerial scouting, faster transport, maybe even building our own Dragoon."

Excitement filled his voice as he immediately began inspecting the wreckage.

But his enthusiasm quickly turned to dismay. "Aaack?! Why are they so badly damaged?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Claire wiped sweat from her brow and looked at the poor mechanic.

"Sorry about that... I used EMP, so their circuits must’ve been fried by now."

Victor groaned while running his hands through his hair. "Fried circuits... of course. It makes sense. The engines are intact, but the control systems are ruined. Still... maybe I can salvage something."

Claire placed a hand on his shoulder. "Do what you can. Even scraps might help us later."

Victor nodded reluctantly while already pulling tools from his pouch. Around them, survivors began gathering the broken cores and scattered parts. Despite having low experience points from the battle, their spirits were lifted by the victory.

The shelter hadn’t just endured a beating, they had struck back!

At this time, a mysterious figure had actually noticed the attack that had just happened.

"This shelter is really strong... I wonder what number it is."

The voice came from a woman, and as she observed the shelter from afar, she couldn’t help but feel worried.

She could see several Sentinels and Spyders preparing something huge in the distance. It seemed that they hadn’t been noticed yet!

These Sentinels and Spyders seemed to be building a massive cannon, or perhaps a siege weapon, designed to obliterate the shelter she had just discovered.

The scale of it was terrifying. Its frame was stretching taller than the nearby ruins.

Heavy cables snaked across the ground, and piece by piece, the structure was taking shape...

"Aahhh... Shit. Isn’t that too huge?!" The figure muttered in shock.

What she was seeing was a massive cannon mounted on four legs, like some monstrous artillery beast!
