Chapter 1072: New Shelter

Shane finally closed the chat system and decided to claim this place.

[ Beginner Shelter Crystal: A crystal imbued with the essence of the Shelter. It has the power to claim a small piece of land for its wielder. Once activated, the crystal will slowly repel zombies and undead creatures from the designated area until it reaches full energy capacity. It will also help with Production Speed, Culture Points, Building Durability, and Defense. Once the crystal’s energy is filled, lower-tier Zombies will be less likely to attack your Shelter, and you can activate the special effect of the crystal to protect your land.

Current Energy: 30%

Shelter Crystal Effect: Unavailable ]

Without hesitation, Shane activated it.

[ Do you wish to spend 500 Spirit Points to claim this piece of land? ]

This question popped out, and of course, with his current Spirit Points, it wasn’t really a big deal.

Still, Shane observed the image that had appeared. It showed the map of the surroundings, and there was a highlighted portion on it that included the waterfall and the land filled with fruit trees nearby.

’Interesting...’ Shane gently nodded as he confirmed the coverage of the shelter.

"Yes..." Shane answered.

[ Spirit Points deducted: 500.]

[ Area claimed successfully. Zone established: 530 meters x 530 meters. ]

[ Shelter Crystal activation in progress... ]

The activation didn’t take that long...

Soon, Shane got the familiar message.

[ Beginner Shelter has been established. ]

[ Shelter Crystal has successfully established the first building: Beginner Shelter Core.]

[ Building effects: +15% Building Durability, +10% Production Speed within the territory.]

[ Shelter Defense: Lesser Zombies will be repelled within a 100-meter radius. ]

[ Energy Charge: 30% ]

[ Estimated time to full charge: 48 hours.]

[ Warning: The Shelter Crystal must be placed inside the territory to maintain its effect. ]

Soon, Shane realized that the shelter crystal’s building was located at the entrance of the facility near the metal gate!

It was a terrible spot, but considering the huge area he had just claimed, it seemed appropriate...

They could just put up some walls and add other areas or buildings aside from the facility. It would be a lot of work, but with the various talented Survivors on his side, it was not impossible to develop this place.

After all, the Blue Haven just needed a month to become like a port town.

Nonetheless, Shane decided to change the name of the shelter.

Since it was previously the Icarus Ascension Complex, Shane decided to just use its name, Icarus Shelter!

[ Current Territory: Springriver Manor ( 100% ), Eclipse Domain ( 100% ), New Genesis Fortress ( 100% ), Blue Haven (85%), Icarus (32%) ]

Shane’s Clan also controls other shelters, but they weren’t tied directly to him like the various outposts, the Blood Talon Clan’s shelter, and others.

After this, Shane opened his inventory and checked his resources. His eyes fell on the small pouch of Normal Recruitment Stones.

[ Recruitment Stones: Normal x10 ]

He sighed. "Only ten left... and the higher‑tier ones are still with the merchant back at Blue Haven. I’ll have to return soon to get them."

Still, ten was better than nothing. This place needed people, even if they weren’t warriors or elites. Shane held the stones in his palm...

"Alright... let’s see who the fog brings."

He activated them one by one.

Gray mist swirled across the entrance of the Icarus Shelter.

It was thick and heavy, curling like smoke outside the shelter. The fog pulsed, then split into ten distinct streams.

Slowly, shapes emerged from within... With Shane’s heightened senses, he immediately noticed five men and five women, coughing and blinking as if waking from a long dream.

They looked around in shock.

Their last memories were of being surrounded by zombies, the gray fog sweeping in to save them, and then... nothing. Years, perhaps decades, had passed while they remained suspended in the mist.

Now, they were here.

The fog itself whispered faintly, a voice only they could hear.... "Foreign Survivors await you. Work together. Eliminate the undead. Rebuild the world."

The ten recruits shivered, some clutching their arms, others staring wide-eyed at Shane and his team.

Shane stepped forward.

"You’re safe now. I’m Shane, leader of this shelter... and also the Foreign Survivor you probably heard from the fog. First, tell me what you can do."

One by one, they introduced themselves.

A middle-aged man with calloused hands spoke first. "I am Elias, a farmer... I can grow crops, manage soil, and tend orchards."

A woman in her thirties also followed. "I’m Maribel, Lord Shane... I kept a household. Cooking, cleaning, raising children. I can manage supplies."

"I worked construction. I can build walls, repair foundations."

"I was an apprentice to a seamstress, but I can mend clothes and weave fabric with tools..."

"I was a miner..."

"I was a teacher. Probably not helpful in this situation, but I can help with all kinds of work."

"I’m Mateo... I was a fisherman..."

Shane paused after hearing this... They certainly needed a fisherman, so he made sure to remember him.

Then, he listened to others...

"I was a nurse. I can help treat wounds and basic illnesses..."

"I was a carpenter..."

"I was just a housewife... but I can cook, clean, and help wherever needed."

Shane listened carefully, nodding.

None of them were warriors, none had combat talents. But that didn’t matter.

What he needed here was stability, people to maintain the shelter, to keep it alive while his fighters and scientists worked.

"Perfect," Shane said firmly. "You may not be soldiers, but you’re exactly what we need. This place will become a fortress, and you’ll help us build it."

The recruits exchanged nervous glances, but relief washed over them.

After years in the fog, they finally had purpose again.

Shane assigned them immediately... He needed someone to oversee food and water systems, construction, domestic management, clothing and supplies, and others.

Of course, Shane also provided them with the materials they needed, such as clothes, food supplies, medicines, construction tools, and many others.

"You don’t have to work immediately... Have some food first..." Shane said. Well, he wasn’t cruel enough to make them work the moment they had come out of the fog.
