Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle-Chapter 1070: The New Shelter
Shane was curious about the cryo pods that remained occupied in this Icarus Ascension Complex... There were 17 of them after all.
He had previously discovered a facility that was focused on Project Prometheus or Cybernetic Integration... it was the underground facility of the now New Genesis Shelter.
During that time, he managed to save various Hybrid Humans in those pods. As a matter of fact, Arial, the current manager of New Genesis Shelter, was one of the most talented Hybrid Humans he had encountered.
There was also Hazel, a woman with metallic bones that could shift into blades... She was supposedly part of the patrol group now, hunting lesser Zombies around the shelters.
Aside from them, Bon was also another Hybrid who was about 70% Machine... He could also fight the Zombies, but he had worked in the factories making Mech Frames instead...
Of course, there were a total of 18 of them, and most of them were still within the New Genesis Shelter, working invarious departments.
This time, he may not be expecting humans with Cybernetic Upgrades, but he was hoping to save 17 humans as well. He didn’t mind if these humans passed the Adonis Code, the Titanblood, or even the Icarus Gene...
Whatever it was, Shane would be happy to accept them as long as they were not hostile.
The only concern was the warning he had received.
There was a risk of contamination if the chamber was opened, so he had to assess the level of risk first before opening it.
For now, Shane wanted to know more about the other restricted facilities.
***
It didn’t take that long before Shane received more information from Cloud.
Cloud’s interface moved again and lines of data scrolled across Shane’s wrist display as the A.I. Assistant continued browsing through the network of the facility.
[ Accessing Restricted Chamber Records... ]
[ Vault Sector Omega Status: Locked. ]
[ Purpose: Secure storage of genetic samples, prototype serums, and classified augmentation schematics. ]
[ Records Found: ]
Inventory: 312 genetic vials, 47 prototype serums, 12 augmentation schematics.
Notable Entry: "Titanblood Hormone Batch 12: Unstable, causes catastrophic organ rupture."
Notable Entry: "Adonis Code Rewrite Sequence: Incomplete, high mortality."
Notable Entry: "Icarus Gene Prototype: Photosynthetic integration, subject viability <1%."
[ Hazard Warning: Vault containment integrity unstable. Radiation and biohazard leakage detected. Entry requires full hazmat protection. ]
Shane was stunned but also felt excited as he saw this...
"So this is where they kept their crown jewels... unstable serums, failed prototypes. This is incredible discovery."
Shane muttered as he also felt that his Alchemists and Researchers may not be enough to handle this level of work.
He just knew that even with Anna’s skills, this would simply be too much.
Unfortunately, he also didn’t have many modern scientists in his shelters, so he might have to coordinate with his allies...
Perhaps it was time to get some assistance from the New Haven Clan and the Drakeheart Vanguard.
He just knew that those two Clans would have people who would certainly be happy to cooperate with them in order to obtain benefits from this forgotten research.
Shane then explained the situation to everyone...
"Sounds more like a death trap than treasure." Brion muttered as he heard about the requirement of wearing a full hazmat suit.
"Well, that’s true... But we have other mystical means to deal with it." Shane replied with a laugh.
In any case, Cloud shifted to another restricted sector and found records about it in the terminal. Soon, the A.I. compiled the information and provided it to Shane.
[ Director’s Office - Status: Locked. ]
[ Purpose: Command and oversight of Project Icarus. ]
[ Records Found:
- Logs partially recovered.
Notable Entry: "Schneider’s Directive "Humanity is obsolete. The future belongs to those we create."
Notable Entry: "Patient Zero transferred to Facility 9-A. Resistance to viral decay confirmed. Subject demonstrates enhanced strength, speed, and healing."
Notable Entry: "Cryogenic subjects preserved for later study. Vault Sector Omega to remain sealed until viable ascension achieved."
[ Hazard Warning: Office sealed with biometric clearance. No contamination detected. ]
Shane’s eyes narrowed. "Schneider again... always the same obsession. At least now we know Sofia wasn’t frozen here... Facility 9-A, huh... That’s where we’ll need to go next."
Shane recalled Schneider as well, since he had previously seen records about the man in other facilities they entered.
Well, he was basically one of the directors of the project who was pretty obsessed on becoming immortal.
Serenya whispered, "So she really was different. Proof that ascension didn’t always fail."
Just like that, Cloud continued giving information about the other chambers.
[ Containment Wing - Status: Locked. ]
[ Purpose: Quarantine and observation of unstable ascension subjects. ]
[ Records Found: ]
Subject Count: 9.
Condition: Unknown. Records indicate violent mutations, uncontrollable aggression.
Notes: "Containment protocols failed repeatedly. Subjects displayed regenerative properties beyond expectations. Termination attempts unsuccessful. Wing sealed permanently."
[ Hazard Warning: Movement detected. Unknown energy signatures. Entry strongly discouraged. ]
"Whoa..." Shane paused after seeing this.
Shinja frowned. "Movement? After all these years?"
Cloud confirmed.
[ Sensors detect faint anomalous activity. Could be residual energy or surviving mutations. ]
Taylor tightened her grip on her shield. "If they’re still alive, will they be worse than the Lords?"
Shane exhaled slowly. "We don’t open that wing. Not yet, at the very least... But now, we have to ensure that no one else gets to enter this place..."
After a moment of hesitation, Shane decided to just make this place his own.
"I’ll be taking over this place... I plan to make a simple fortress here."
He still had a few Beginner Shelter Crystals, so it wouldn’t be a problem taking this place. The only concern would be the guards willing to stay in this place to ensure its safely...
"Wait... Maybe this is a perfect place for collaboration with other Clans." Shane muttered. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Since he already thought of getting Travis and Natalie’s help on this matter, they might as well send their people here to increase the population. Perhaps, he would just have to send a few dozen Warden Units here instead.
After all, he no longer has any Gate Stones with him... The nearest one with the Gate Stone or Portal was the Blue Haven Shelter, and it would still take a couple of days to arrive here since there weren’t really any roads they could use.
If there were, it wouldn’t be an issue to travel here in just a few hours. However, making a road that connects to this place might cost a lot of money.
’Well... I’ll consider it later...’
Finally, Cloud accessed the last restricted sector.
[ Ascension Chamber – Status: Locked. ]
[ Purpose: Central testing hall for Project Icarus subjects. ]
[ Records Found: ]
Chamber Size: 120 meters in diameter.
Equipment: Genetic rewrite consoles, infusion tanks, monitoring arrays.
Notes: "Final trials conducted here. Mortality rate exceeded 97%. Survivors displayed unstable mutations. Chamber sealed after catastrophic incident."
Incident Report: "Subject 47 -Titanblood infusion. Result: uncontrollable growth, structural collapse of chamber wing. Subject terminated with extreme difficulty."
[ Hazard Warning: Residual energy signatures detected. Chamber unstable. Entry not advised. ]
Shane’s face darkened. "So this is where they tried to play god... and failed. Ninety‑seven percent mortality. And the ones who lived... monsters."
Roscoe shook his head. "No wonder the world ended. They weren’t building saviors, they were building nightmares."
Shane looked around at his team, and the facilities...
"Cryogenic pods, unstable vaults, mutated subjects, failed ascensions... This place is a graveyard of BioGenix’s ambitions. Still, there’s no Sofia... She was moved to Facility 9-A, then that’s where we’ll search next."
Brion nodded firmly...
Shane knew about Facility 9-A already. The Blue Haven Shelter’s main building was previously the world government’s secret facility after all.
It was taken over by Tundra and was soon turned into their shelter.
However, before that, they learned that Sofia had been transferred to Eden Island’s Facility 9-A.
That was also the reason why they were building ships that could survive in the rough seas.
Still, since they didn’t really know the timeline or the events of the past, there was also a possibility that Sofia was transferred to this facility after going to that island...
"I just hope that the last destination..." Shane mused.
He then exhaled, as he considered what to do next about these sealed chambers.
As he was thinking, the others started exploring the place. So he just checked his system and opened the Chat Feature...
Soon, several notifications blinked rapidly across his interface.
"Hmm?" Shane muttered. "Raze, Travis, Diana... and Fiona."
He then noticed that the Rat Princess had sent several messages. It seemed really important so he checked it first.
He scrolled through them, reading carefully.
[ Fiona: Shane! When are you coming back? I heard that the Anti‑Zombie Injectors are already out in Springriver Manor and Eclipse Domain... Can we get those as well? ]
[ Fiona: Right, the merchant clan is still here! They’re selling some interesting things... We want to purchase more but the budget... ]
[ Fiona: Shane, hurry! The merchant clan says they only have limited stock. If other shelters buy them first, we’ll lose the chance. ]
[ Fiona: I know you’re busy, but Springriver Manor already sent people to negotiate. We’re good now... However, Vasco is telling me that you should find more helpers and materials for the ship he’s making... I’ll send you a list of what he needs if you want. ]
