Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 141 - 135: Traces of the Space Young Dragon
Raylo and Master Barnaby walked single file, carefully entering the cave that had been revealed by a mudslide.
The light inside the cave gradually grew dim.
As they ventured deeper, Raylo took a Magic Light Crystal from his Space Ring. Its soft glow instantly dispelled the darkness.
The cave’s interior was much more spacious and dry than they had expected. It seemed to be a massive, naturally formed cavern.
Small rocks and dry grass were scattered across the ground.
"Master, look at this."
Raylo’s sharp eyes spotted several fingernail-sized silver scales next to a pile of dry grass.
Master Barnaby strode forward, picked up a Dragon Scale, and held it up to his eyes for a closer look. He rubbed it between his fingers, and his expression instantly became one of sheer excitement.
"Yes! This is it! This... This is a Dragon Scale with the Spatial Attribute! And the fluctuations of Magic Power it contains are so pure... It must be from an Ancient Dragon Species!"
"My goodness, it’s the whelp of a Space Giant Dragon!"
He paced back and forth in his excitement, as if he had discovered a priceless Treasure.
Raylo’s heart skipped a beat. ’A Space Giant Dragon... That’s one of the most mysterious and powerful Ancient Giant Dragons in all of legend.’
’Once they reach adulthood, they can easily tear through space and traverse planes.’
The two continued to explore deeper into the cavern.
Soon after, Master Barnaby discovered a small pile of dried, blackened droppings in a corner.
Heedless of the filth, he pinched off a small piece to examine it, then used a small tool he carried to scrape off a sample and store it away.
"Judging by the digested remains, this Young Dragon had a varied diet, consisting mainly of ore rich in Magic Power and the flesh of High Tier Magical Beasts. What’s more, it must be very young—probably not even a year old," Master Barnaby analyzed.
"Over here!"
Beneath a protruding rock, Raylo found a small, milky-white tooth, no longer than his pinky finger. Its tip was still stained with a trace of dark red blood.
Master Barnaby took the baby tooth, the gleam in his eyes growing even brighter.
"A Young Dragon’s baby tooth! Perfect! Based on the wear on this tooth and its residual aura, I’d say this Space Young Dragon left this nest about two months ago."
"It must have completed its first shedding and teething, gaining some basic ability to protect itself. That’s why it left to venture out on its own."
"It left two months ago?"
Raylo couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.
’If only we had found this sooner, we might have been able to corner that little Space Dragon.’
Master Barnaby sighed as well, looking regretful.
"Yes, we were just a little too late. Such a shame!"
He carefully placed the Dragon Scales and the baby tooth into a specially made box.
Just as the two were sighing in regret, a series of heavy footsteps, accompanied by ragged breathing, approached from the depths of the cavern.
THUD... THUD... THUD...
Each step seemed to land on their very hearts, and the ground trembled slightly in response.
"This is bad! Something’s coming!"
Raylo’s expression tensed, and he instantly gripped the hilt of the Knight’s Longsword at his hip.
The smile vanished from Master Barnaby’s face, his expression turning serious.
"This aura..."
"It seems we’ve disturbed this place’s new owner."
Before the words were even out of his mouth, a massive creature burst out from around a bend deeper in the cavern!
It was a ferocious Giant Beast, its body the size of a mammoth! 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Its entire body was covered in thick, gray-black Scale Armor that looked as if it were carved from rock, each scale shimmering with a metallic luster. Its limbs were thick and powerful, tipped with enormous, sharp claws that glinted menacingly as they dug into the stone floor.
Its massive head was savage and terrifying, covered in wrinkles and keratinous plates. Interlocking fangs jutted from its maw, and its two dark-red eyes gleamed with tyranny and bloodlust.
It looked more like a Giant Bear draped in Dragon Scales, exuding an aura of primal wildness and Power. The moment it appeared, a wave of savage ferocity washed over them.
"Damn it, it’s an Earth-shaking Bear Dragon! A Tier Four Magical Beast! Its hide is tough, its flesh is thick, and its strength is immense. The most troublesome part is its astonishing defense!"
"It’s too cramped in here, we don’t have room to fight. Let’s go, quickly!"
Master Barnaby shouted, his decision made in an instant.
Clashing head-on with a Giant Beast of this level in such a narrow cavern was by no means a wise move.
The Earth-shaking Bear Dragon clearly viewed Raylo and Master Barnaby as intruders. It let out a deafening roar and charged forward on heavy feet, looking like a small, moving mountain.
Remaining calm in the face of danger, Master Barnaby flicked his wrist. A Crystal Bottle flew from his hand and shattered against the hard rock wall.
A pungent, yellow-green smoke instantly billowed out, obscuring all sight.
It was impossible to tell what materials Master Barnaby had used to create the smoke Potion, but it was potent enough to severely aggravate the Tier Four Magical Beast, causing the Earth-shaking Bear Dragon to temporarily halt its charge.
"Go!"
Seizing the opportunity, the two turned and bolted for the entrance without a moment’s hesitation.
Although the Earth-shaking Bear Dragon was choking badly on the smoke, it quickly recovered and gave chase with a furious roar.
The cavern instantly began to shake violently, and loose stones rained down from the ceiling.
They moved with incredible speed, bursting out of the entrance in the blink of an eye.
Baofeng and the Two-legged Flying Dragon had already sensed the commotion inside the cavern and were waiting anxiously.
"Quick, get on!"
Raylo shouted, leaping onto Baofeng’s back.
Master Barnaby also clambered onto the Two-legged Flying Dragon.
The two beasts shot toward the sky.
The moment they were airborne, the Earth-shaking Bear Dragon’s enormous head poked out of the entrance. It let out a frustrated and furious roar at the sky, the sound waves vibrating through the surrounding rock.
"That thing has made this place its new den."
Raylo looked down at the enraged Giant Beast, his heart still pounding with lingering fear.
’If it had trapped us in the cavern, I’m not sure I would have made it out alive.’
Master Barnaby, meanwhile, was clutching his chest and catching his breath.
"That was close. Too close. Good thing we ran fast enough."
Raylo glanced down; the Earth-shaking Bear Dragon was still pacing at the entrance to the cavern.
"Master, since the Space Young Dragon is already gone, there’s no point in staying here. Should we head back to Black Stone Castle?"
"Very well."
Although Master Barnaby was still preoccupied with the Space Young Dragon, he knew it was a matter he couldn’t force.
"Let’s head back and organize what we’ve found. We might be able to analyze these remnants for more useful information."
Without further hesitation, they steered their mounts and flew off in the direction of Black Stone Castle.
It was dusk by the time they returned to Black Stone Castle, with only a few sparse stars twinkling overhead.
The constant travel and the harrowing encounter in the cavern had left Raylo feeling weary. He swung himself down from Baofeng’s broad back, his thick leather boots making a soft sound as they landed on the hard stone-paved road.
Master Barnaby, on the other hand, was still full of energy. Clutching the materials from the Space Young Dragon as if they were priceless treasures, he returned to his laboratory and immediately began his research.
Baofeng snorted and went back to his usual spot to rest.
Raylo patted Baofeng’s neck reassuringly, his gaze habitually scanning the area.
It was only then that he suddenly remembered: from the moment he’d set out that morning to explore the Dragon’s Nest until his return just now, he hadn’t seen a single sign of the little guy, Moonlight.
’I wonder where he’s run off to. Haven’t seen a trace of him all day.’
He muttered to himself, his tone a mix of exasperated affection.
