Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 247: Loco
But with Mr. Crow by her side, she had already let go of the obsession that haunted her past life.
She did not want to find that wealthy family.
However, that did not mean she would let things end there.
Whoever had taken her place, whatever the real truth was, she would uncover it. And if someone had deliberately turned her life into hell, she would return the favor without mercy.
Her expression hardened as she looked at Axel. "Can I ask you for help?"
"I would ask someone else to investigate as well," Lana said, "but it would be best if you investigate too."
Axel nodded without hesitation, his expression calm and reassuring. After a brief pause, he looked at her thoughtfully and spoke,
"Can you give me a real strand of your hair?"
Lana was stunned for a moment before her lips curved upward.
Tilting her head slightly, she asked in a teasing tone, "Is my wig really that fake? Does everyone already know it’s a wig?"
Axel burst into laughter, the sound warm and unrestrained.
"Well," he replied honestly, "from a professional’s point of view, it’s quite see-through." His eyes glinted with amusement as he added, "If you want, I can make one for you."
Hearing that, Lana was taken aback. She stared at him for a second before laughing lightly.
"What, did you work as a barber before becoming a teacher?"
Axel laughed again, shaking his head. "You really don’t see me as a teacher at all, do you?"
Lana’s smile softened, her voice sincere. "I do." She paused, then added quietly,
"And I respect you a lot. I just... don’t know how to put it into words."
Before Axel could respond, the door opened and several other students walked in.
Fay’s eyes instinctively moved toward Lana. For a brief moment, jealousy flickered in them, but this time, she did not cause a scene.
The memory of Lana’s sharp words from before still lingered in her mind, leaving behind a sense of shame. ’I won’t bother her anymore,’ she decided silently.
Lana noticed the change immediately.
’At least she’s self-aware,’ she thought. ’Even if jealousy consumes her, she’s not completely unreasonable.’
Perhaps her words had hurt Fay, but maybe that pain was necessary.
Meanwhile, far away from Lana, inside Everhart’s mansion, the atmosphere was icy.
Mr. and Mrs. Everhart sat rigidly across from the police officer they had hired, their cold gazes fixed on him like blades.
The officer, Loco, felt sweat bead at his temples under their scrutiny. He shifted uneasily, the silence pressing down on him like a weight.
Standing beside him, his girlfriend, Yuna, smiled calmly at the couple. Her voice was confident as she spoke,
"Please rest assured. We’ll find that girl soon." She inclined her head slightly. "Give us two to three weeks. By then, all information about that girl and Luke will be laid out neatly on your table."
Ms. Everhart nodded slowly, her movements perfectly synchronized with her husband’s, and her cold voice cut through the silence.
"It would be best if you handle this properly, Yuna... and Loco."
Her lips curved faintly, though there was no warmth in her eyes.
"However, if you fail to deliver on time, we’ll make sure neither of you survives in this city."
For a fleeting instant, panic flashed through Yuna’s eyes.
It vanished almost immediately, replaced by a composed smile, but the chill crawling up her spine refused to fade.
’We are doomed,’ she thought bitterly. She had taken this case with confidence, even eagerness, believing that once she obtained the information, she could easily build a connection with Mr. and Mrs. Everhart.
Instead of gaining favor, it now felt as though she had stepped straight into a trap.
Regret flickered through her heart.
’If only I hadn’t taken this chance...’
But the thought of Monica surfaced in her mind, sharp and unsettling.
Monica had been reaching out to influential figures recently, moving at an alarming pace, and soon she would have real connections.
Fear tightened Yuna’s chest. There were things she could never let come to light, things no one else could know.
She had to make sure Monica never rose high enough for the world to recognize her face. ’If that happens... real trouble will begin.’
With that resolve, Yuna lifted her head and smiled calmly at the Everharts. "Understood. My boyfriend and I will handle it."
Without another word, Yuna and Loco turned and walked out of the mansion. No one offered them water, let alone food or snacks.
Even Yuna felt a sting of humiliation.
’If I hadn’t taken this case, maybe I could have preserved my dignity,’ she thought. Now, flattery and submission were unavoidable.
Still, she clenched her teeth. ’So be it.’
As long as this connection existed, something beneficial might come out of it eventually.
As they moved away from the mansion, Loco glanced at Yuna with a grim expression.
"What do we do now?" His voice was low and tense. "From the looks of it, big players are hiding information about this girl, Lana, and Luka. How are we supposed to dig anything out?"
Yuna clenched her fists, her nails biting into her palms. "We use every contact we have," she replied firmly. "Every single one, to gather information about Lana."
"And Luke?" Loco pressed.
Yuna narrowed her eyes. "We start with him. Lana’s information is clearly being protected, but Luka’s shouldn’t be."
Her voice turned cold and calculating. "As long as we search properly and exhaust all our connections, there’s a high chance we’ll reach Luke."
Loco stared at her, realization dawning in his eyes. "You’re planning to use Luka to force Lana out," he said grimly.
"And once she appears, you’ll hand both of them over to the Everharts."
Yuna nodded without hesitation.
"There are too many risks," Loco argued, his brows knitted tightly.
"If even the Everharts can’t get this information, that means this case has been twisted from the very beginning. They’re influential figures in Xila City. If they failed, how do you expect a couple of police officers to succeed?"
