Chapter 232: Chapter 234: Fay’s Buzzing

Lana quickly regained her composure and pushed the card back a little. "You already gave me one card before."

Lucian smiled, as if he had expected that response.

"I know. And I also know you never spent even a single dime from it because of your self-respect." His eyes softened. "But this time, it’s different. This money is compensation."

Lana stared at the card in silence. Her fingers hovered above it, hesitant. Slowly, her gaze drifted toward Mr. Crow.

Just earlier, before breakfast, he had grumbled that Lucian was nothing but a cheap person and that the two of them could never get along.

Now, she desperately wanted to tell him, ’See? We can get along just fine.’

After all, this was money. Raw, honest money.

’If someone gives you money with such politeness and goodwill,’ she thought, ’how can you not like them?’

As if sensing her thoughts, Mr. Crow closed his eyes tightly, his beak twitching.

’So that’s it,’ he sighed inwardly. ’This human didn’t capture her heart with words or charm. He did it by knowing her weakness far too well.’

Before Lana could say anything else, Lucian reached into his pocket again.

Another card slid across the table.

Lana hurriedly waved her hand, a shy smile appearing on her lips.

"That’s enough. I really have enough money already. This compensation alone is more than..."

Lucian interrupted her gently, still smiling. "This one isn’t money."

She paused.

"It’s a card for Royal Garden Restaurant," he continued calmly. "You can visit anytime you want."

Lana froze.

"Royal Garden... Restaurant?" she repeated softly, disbelief creeping into her voice.

It was a place unlike any other.

That restaurant had a legendary chef, one who had awakened the ability to infuse aether directly into food. Anyone who consumed those dishes would feel their energy rise rapidly, their body healing faster than normal.

Immunity would strengthen, hidden ailments would be cured, and lingering weaknesses would slowly disappear.

Having a single meal was the dream of countless people.

Even Lana herself had only managed to eat there once before and that, too, was because of Lucian.

Yet now, he had directly handed her his card.

’Just how sorry is he...?’ she wondered.

Her heart thumped strangely, excitement and disbelief mixing together. She looked down at the card again, her breath catching slightly.

It wasn’t just any card.

It was a VVIP card.

Which meant that if she ever went there, she wouldn’t need to make a reservation. A private room would be prepared for her without question.

The weight of it settled into her palm, warm and undeniable, and for a moment, Lana felt as though the world had quietly shifted beneath her feet.

Seeing her shy expression, Lucian reassured her gently,

"This is something I obtained from the Almond family."

Lana froze.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the card as she lifted her gaze toward him. "The Almond family...?"

Lucian’s expression darkened just a little.

"While you were asleep, there were two more assassination attempts in the past two days."

A chill ran down Lana’s spine. She instinctively turned to Mr. Crow, who nodded gravely, confirming Lucian’s words.

Her lips pressed together, a faint sense of grievance blooming in her chest. ’They really went that far...?’

She never imagined the Almond family would dare to carry out an assassination attempt on her, let alone inside Lucian’s own mansion.

’Just how much courage, or stupidity, do they have to plan something like that on his territory?’

Lucian continued calmly, his voice carrying a hint of cold authority.

"Since the attack happened on my turf, they paid compensation."

He glanced at the card in her hand.

"This card was something they cherished greatly. Now, it belongs to you."

Lana stared at the card again, disbelief flickering across her face. Then, slowly, she accepted it fully, a soft smile blooming on her lips.

She never thought that while she was sleeping, a hundred million dollars and such a rare card would simply fall into her lap.

For a brief moment, she felt thrilled. Her mood lifted instantly, and the earlier unpleasant feelings faded away like smoke.

Lucian watched her expression carefully. When he saw her smile, he finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.

’So that’s it,’ he realized suddenly. ’She really loves compensation.’

As the thought settled in his mind, a decision followed naturally.

’From now on, every time the Almond family dares to touch her, I’ll make sure the compensation doubles.’

He exhaled again, strangely at ease. ’She’s... surprisingly easy to appease.’

Mr. Crow watched the two of them from the side, shaking his head slowly.

’These two are truly a match made in heaven,’ he thought, even though he would never admit it out loud.

That day, Lana returned to her university, and the lectures proceeded as usual.

Yet something felt off. It was Fay.

Her attitude toward Lana had changed drastically, so much so that even Lana found it hard to believe she was talking to the same person.

By now, Fay had begun to outright ignore her. Sometimes, she even threw sharp, sarcastic remarks in Lana’s direction.

More than once, she sneered, "Where did you go yesterday? Out sleeping with one of the guys you’re seeing?"

Each comment chipped away at Lana’s patience.

Finally, Lana twisted her lips into a calm smile and turned toward her. "Have you slowly transformed into my mother-in-law?"

Fay frowned, then realized what Lana meant.

Lana wasn’t holding back anymore.

"I thought you at least had some intelligence," she continued coolly. "But it seems all of it vanished the moment you got jealous. Your jealousy has completely flooded your brain."

Fay exploded in anger, pointing a finger at her. "You’re crossing the line!" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Lana’s smile remained.

"I haven’t crossed it yet." Her eyes turned cold. "The moment I do, you’ll regret your behavior."

She leaned slightly forward.

"One more comment from you, and I’ll make sure you get trolled for the rest of your life."

Something in Lana’s gaze made Fay recoil. She finally backed down, swallowing her words.

When the buzzing whispers died down, Lana let out a quiet sigh and refocused on the lecture.
