Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Suzy

Then he heard Lana’s calm, steady voice. "Don’t be scared. He’ll protect you while I deal with this bunch of idiots."

The words fell like thunder.

Instantly, fury erupted among the onlookers, especially Mrs. Almond. Yet instead of lashing out directly, she let out a low chuckle. "Looks like you don’t care about Suzy anymore."

The moment that name was spoken, Lana’s eyes turned glacial.

Suzy. The old housekeeper.

Lana didn’t let it show on her face. Instead, she laughed softly, her tone almost playful. "Go ahead," she replied. "Harm Suzy."

She leaned forward slightly, her voice dropping just enough to chill the air. "The very next second, you’ll find your lifespan reduced to a single day."

The threat was casual. Absolute.

Mrs. Almond’s breath hitched.

Lana’s current demeanor was terrifyingly abnormal. Calm. Confident. Unafraid.

If they failed to rein her in, there was a very real chance that Mr. and Mrs. Almond themselves would end up paying a far heavier price than expected.

Hatred flickered in Mrs. Almond’s eyes as she spoke sharply, "You’re risking far too much for a mere child. You should worry about protecting yourself."

Lana laughed. A clear, fearless laugh.

"I’m still alive," she replied smoothly. "That alone proves I’m capable of surviving every attack the Almond family has ever thrown at me."

Her gaze hardened. "Even if the Everhart family joins in, I’ll still walk away unscathed."

This was the confidence she had gained after reclaiming her yellow mystic energy.

Before, she hadn’t fully understood how overwhelming its power truly was. Now, standing here, she finally realized it... she had stepped into a realm where the Almond family couldn’t even touch her.

And because of that... She wasn’t afraid.

Not of the Almond family.

Not of the Everhart family.

Not of anyone standing before her.

Mrs. and Mr. Everhart exchanged a glance the moment they sensed the shift in the atmosphere.

They both understood clearly that confronting Lana head-on would not be easy.

Even the Almond family, who had always stood tall and arrogant, now looked as if they were barely holding themselves together.

In the end, it was Mrs. Everhart who stepped forward.

Her eyes were brimming with naked venom. "Do you even know why we are after that child?"

Lana did not even bother to look at her at first. She turned her head slightly toward her brother, her expression indifferent, her fingers brushing against the fabric of her sleeve as if this entire matter bored her.

"I’m not interested," she replied calmly. "No matter the reason, I can’t see why a fourteen-year-old child should be haunted like a criminal day and night."

A soft chuckle escaped Mrs. Everhart’s lips, light yet chilling, like ice scraping against glass. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"That boy," she said slowly, each word dripping with certainty, "is the reincarnation of a devil. The celestial master of our family personally declared it. He is destined to become the Everhart family’s disastrous star."

Hearing that, Lana finally turned her head and looked at her brother, her brows knitting together slightly.

’So that’s it,’ she thought. ’Superstition.’

In that instant, everything became clear to her. A family like the Everharts would never go so far as to destroy their own blood unless some twisted belief had pushed them over the edge.

And now that she thought about it, the so-called celestial master they had hired was either corrupt to the core or someone within the Everhart family who had been lying from the very beginning.

Lana shifted her gaze back to Mr. and Mrs. Everhart, her expression calm, almost gentle.

"What kind of disaster could a fourteen-year-old child possibly bring?" she questioned. "Did you even bother to cross-check?"

Mrs. Everhart’s face twisted with irritation, her fingers clenching tightly at her side.

"I’ve already consulted multiple celestial masters," she snapped. "Every single one of them said the same thing. As long as that child exists, the Everhart family will decline. We’ve already started seeing signs in our company."

Lana laughed softly, but there was no amusement in her eyes. The sound echoed through the hall, hollow and cold.

"And that justifies this?" she replied. "From the looks of it, you’re planning to kill Luke."

The silence that followed was deafening.

Mr. and Mrs. Everhart remained expressionless, their faces stiff as stone.

And in that moment, Lana knew she had spoken the truth. Her heart went cold, as if icy water had been poured straight into her chest.

’Just because someone called him a disastrous star... they didn’t hesitate at all,’ she thought. ’They were ready to kill their own child.’

She shook her head slowly, disappointment evident in her eyes, before lifting her gaze again and offering the Everharts a polite smile.

"I’ll give you two options," she said evenly. "First, you let Luke go. I’ll personally make sure he never appears before the Everhart family again. Maybe one day he’ll make a name for himself, but when that time comes, you will have no right to claim him."

Mr. and Mrs. Everhart stared at her darkly, their gazes sharp and oppressive. After a brief pause, Mr. Everhart finally spoke, his voice low and threatening.

"You’re crossing a line you should never cross."

Lana laughed again, this time louder, her eyes gleaming dangerously.

"Since you don’t like the first option, then listen carefully to the second," she said.

"I’ll make sure that all four of you suffer. These guards will open a path for me whether they want to or not. So tell me, do you want the easy way or the hard way? The choice is yours."

Mr. Everhart did not respond with words.

Instead, he snapped her fingers.

Almost at the same instant, Lana waved her hand, as if she had been waiting for this very moment.

A shimmering yellow protective barrier appeared before her.

The fireball, hurled toward her, nearly the size of half a human body, slammed into the barrier with a deafening crash.

Sparks flew, heat rippled through the air, yet the barrier remained intact, not even a crack, not even a dent.
