Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Sponsorship

Lana froze for a brief second. 10,000 credits?

10,000 credits were equivalent to $100 million! Previously, to buy the yellow rank package from the website, she had to take out $100 million from her private stash just to get extra credits and reach 10,000 credits.

Now... she was given 10,000 credits just like that!

Lana felt like floating; however, she quickly controlled her expression, and an idea appeared in her mind.

Her eyes crashed into Principal Troy. He was dressed in a luminous golden-brown suit with a floral jacquard vest, complete with a brooch and champagne-colored tie.

Troy was a well-respected figure whom she hardly had the chance to interact with in her previous life. Well, she was accused of plagiarism; he wasn’t present, so she never had the chance to evaluate.

However, from the interactions that she had with the principal till now, she understood how upright this man was. His authoritative aura and stern expression masked the righteous man hiding underneath.

With such an esteemed figure in front of her, if she doesn’t take advantage... then she would not be called Lana!

Unaware of the sinister plan brewing in Lana’s mind, the cunning old fox Troy stared at Lana with bright eyes.

Even though Shadowridge University stands out among all the universities on the national level, it can’t be denied that on the international level, its ranking lags behind.

With Lana’s emergence, many things could be changed.

Lana stared at the golden, white, and purple mist around Troy and made him her target. Even though there were also other teachers, and the mist surrounding them was unique too, for now she focused her energy on the principal, because she won’t be able to meet him like other teachers.

"Mr. Troy, I have a proposal, and I wonder if you are interested in hearing it," Lana said with a cheerful smile.

Her aura and achievements made everyone have a good impression of her subconsciously. Looking at Lana with curious eyes, they waited for her ’so-called’ proposal.

"Go ahead." Troy, who, due to his status as a spiritual cultivator, retained his youthful look and looked no more than 29 years old, gave a gentle smile.

If there were some other students in Lana’s place, they would have been bewitched by now.

With golden-rimmed glasses, soft brown hair, and deep brown eyes, he could tempt any middle-aged woman or teenage girl to fall for him.

Right now, he was using his face card because, compared to others, he could see the schemes brewing in Lana’s eyes even though she masked it with a cheerful and expectant gaze.

Duran rolled his eyes when he saw Troy using his face card, while Axel silently prayed for Lana in her heart. He even had the urge to stop Lana.

Axel remembered how he was tricked by Troy and feared that Lana, too, would be tricked. If someone as smart as him could be tricked, then Lana...

"So here is the thing: you might know my background and how poor I am, right? I couldn’t even afford the breakthrough resources for my cultivation." Lana’s cheerful expression prevailed; however, now, sorrow was visible on his face.

Axel almost covered his face in embarrassment.

’Sh*t, Lana is walking down the path once I did!’

Troy’s brows twitched almost imperceptibly, yet the smile on his lips remained refined, as if crafted by a sculptor who specialized in "benevolent authority."

"I have been kicked out of my family, and I don’t know if I have enough meals to eat tomorrow," Lana continued, letting her voice tremble just slightly. She lowered her eyes, allowing the shadows beneath her lashes to deepen the illusion of helplessness.

Axel’s soul nearly left his body.

"By the heavens," he muttered under his breath, fingers dragging down his face. "She’s really doing it. She’s walking straight into the lion’s mouth... just like I did."

He remembered the smile Troy had given him back then, warm, gentle, and reassuring. And then the contract.

And then the hidden clauses. And then months of crying in the bathrooms and calculating how many organs he’d have to sell to pay back the debt.

Duran smirked from the side, arms crossed. "Let her," he murmured. "This is entertaining."

Troy tilted his head slightly, golden-rimmed glasses catching the light.

"Lana," he spoke softly, "Shadowridge University does not abandon its talents. If you are struggling, you can always apply for internal support."

Lana lifted her gaze slowly, her eyes shimmering, half innocence, half predatory glint.

"But Mr. Troy," she whispered, her voice warm with gratitude, "that’s why I wanted to propose something mutually beneficial."

A faint scent of sandalwood drifted from Troy’s clothes as he leaned forward, intrigued.

"Mutually beneficial?" he repeated, amusement threading through his tone. "I’m listening."

"Lana, I think you shouldn’t..." Axel began, but Troy cast a faint glance in Axel’s direction, enough to tell him that if he dared to interfere, then he would deal with him properly.

Axel almost had the urge to cry.

Lana, however, already sensed that something was amiss. She trusted Axel, and she knew one thing... he would never react so strongly.

It could only mean that the gentle person in front of her... was most likely a scheming person through and through.

If that was the case...

’Professor Axel, sit back and watch a show. You have been an excellent teacher till now. This time, your student will avenge you.’ Lana thought in her mind, knowing fully well that Axel could hear her.

At first, Axel highly doubted if he was hearing things, but when he saw the confident expression on Lana’s face, he knew that it was indeed Lana who had said those words.

"Please state it, Miss Lana," Troy asked curiously.

"Sponsorship," she said. "Specifically... breakthrough resources. Cultivation materials. And maybe... a modest monthly credit allowance?"

"How much could the modest monthly credit be? And till how many ranks do you want me to sponsor you?" Troy asked with mirth in his eyes.

Lana’s eyes flicker. ’Oh... the fish is hooked.’
