Ghost Exorciser: Is Loved By All-Chapter 878: Extra(9)
"I even had a mistress... my first love. I told myself it was fine because I loved her first. But that was just an excuse. I married an innocent girl and treated her like she was guilty. What kind of man does that?"
The doctor’s voice was steady. "A man who lost his way. But also a man who can see his mistakes now."
Yu Lin shook his head. "It’s too late. I can’t go back. I can’t undo it."
"You cannot change the past," the doctor said. "But you can still choose how to spend the time you have now."
Yu Lin laughed softly, but there was no joy in it.
"Time? I’m old. I spend my days here, alone. No wife. No children to visit me. My first love... she’s gone. And the woman I married... I destroyed whatever feelings she had for me. Even my own heart feels like an empty box."
The doctor leaned forward slightly. "Why did you do it, Yu Lin? Was it really love? Or something else?"
Yu Lin’s eyes darkened. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"It was greed. My father... he never told me I had to inherit the wealth. He never forced me to give up my love. But I wanted both. I wanted her... and I wanted power. So I made the worst choice. I thought I was smart, but I was a fool. I destroyed the lives of two women just so I could have everything."
The doctor nodded slowly. "And now?"
Yu Lin’s voice grew softer.
"Now I hate myself. Sometimes I think about the girl I punished. She must have wondered why I treated her like that. She must have hated me... and she had every right to. I tell myself I would do things differently if I could... but would I? Or would greed win again?"
The doctor looked him in the eyes. "Only you can answer that. If God gave you another chance, what would you do?"
Yu Lin stared at the sunlight coming through the glass. "I would choose love. I would let go of power. I would marry the one I loved without hurting anyone. I would... I would protect her. I would protect them both."
His voice trembled, and for the first time in years, a tear slid down his cheek.
The doctor stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Then perhaps your wish is your first step toward change. Even if you never get that second chance, you can spend the rest of your life living as the man you wish you had been."
After the doctor left, Yu Lin kept looking at the garden. "If you can hear me," he whispered to the sky, "give me another chance. Just one. I will not waste it this time."
The wind moved the flowers outside, and the bird took flight.
The next day, Yu Lin opened his eyes again, he was back to the time when he had first met Rou Lan. He blinked a few times, thinking he was dreaming. The sunlight was softer, the air smelled fresher, and the sound of chickens clucking came from outside.
He sat up quickly and looked around. The walls were made of wood and bamboo. The bed was just a thin mattress on a wooden frame. "This... this isn’t my room," he whispered.
Then he turned his head, and there she was. Rou Lan. Young. Beautiful. Only eighteen. She was sitting by the table, braiding her hair.
Yu Lin’s heart pounded. "Rou Lan..."
She looked up, surprised. "You know my name? Did someone tell you?"
Yu Lin shook his head quickly. "No. I... I just know. And I also know something else." He stood up and walked over to her. "I want to marry you."
Rou Lan’s eyes widened. "Marry me? Are you joking? We just met!"
"I’m not joking," Yu Lin said firmly. "I know what I want, and it’s you. I’ll protect you. I’ll choose you over anything else."
Rou Lan looked at him carefully, as if trying to see if he was lying. "You’re serious?"
"I’m very serious," Yu Lin said, nodding. "If you say yes, we can get married right away."
Rou Lan hesitated for a moment, then a small smile formed on her lips. "Alright. If you mean it, I’ll marry you."
Yu Lin felt like his heart would burst from happiness.
Within a short time, they were married. When Yu Lin brought Rou Lan to City-S and told his father, Old Master Yu, the old man’s face turned red with anger.
"I do not approve of this marriage!" Old Master Yu said loudly. "If you stay with her, you will not inherit a single cent from me."
Yu Lin smiled calmly. "Then I won’t inherit. I don’t need your money. I only need her."
Old Master Yu stared at him for a long moment, then sighed. "If that is truly your decision, then I won’t stop you. But don’t come back to me later asking for help."
Yu Lin nodded and left with Rou Lan, feeling proud.
Life was not easy in the beginning. Yu Lin started a small business from scratch. There were many struggles, long days, short nights, and sometimes barely enough money for food. But he kept working hard.
Years passed, and the business grew. It was not as big as Yu Corporation, but Yu Lin could proudly say he was in the top 100 richest people in the city.
Sometimes he had to bow his head to people who used to bow to him in his past life, but he didn’t care. As long as Rou Lan was happy, nothing else mattered.
One day, Yu Lin heard shocking news: Rou Lan’s sister, the one who had always tried to make trouble, had suddenly disappeared. No one knew what happened. Yu Lin felt lucky.
"Maybe this is because I came back to change things," he thought.
But then came another piece of news. The Ou family was slowly becoming more powerful, and their new head had married a daughter from the Han family. When Yu Lin saw the photo, his chest tightened; it was his wife from his past life.
The woman he had treated badly before. She looked happier than ever. Her husband’s company was ranked in the top 2 in the whole country.
Yu Lin told himself not to be jealous. He had chosen Rou Lan. He should be satisfied. But deep inside, he felt a strange bitterness.
Then one evening, everything shattered.
He came home early from work and heard laughing in the living room. When he stepped inside, Rou Lan was sitting close to another man. Too close.
"Rou Lan," Yu Lin said slowly, "what is going on here?"
The man stood up quickly. "I... I should go." He hurried out without looking back.
Rou Lan didn’t even look guilty. "Yu Lin, we need to talk."
"Talk?" Yu Lin’s voice trembled. "You’ve been cheating on me?"
Rou Lan crossed her arms. "Yes. And I’m not sorry."
Yu Lin stared at her in disbelief. "Why? I gave you everything I could! I worked for years to give us a good life!"
Rou Lan laughed lightly. "A good life? You call this a good life? You’re just... average. I thought you would do something big. I thought you’d become someone important. But look at you... top 100? That’s nothing. You’re not the man I thought you would be."
Yu Lin’s hands shook. "So you stayed with me all these years just because you thought I’d become rich?"
Rou Lan looked him straight in the eyes. "Yes. I believed in you. But I was wrong. And now... I don’t want to waste my time anymore."
Yu Lin felt like the floor had dropped under his feet. "Rou Lan... after everything... you say this to me?"
She shrugged. "It’s the truth."
Yu Lin clenched his fists so hard his nails dug into his palms. "Get out."
Rou Lan smirked, grabbed her bag, and walked toward the door. "Don’t worry. I was planning to."
The door closed, and Yu Lin stood there in silence, the sound of her laughter still ringing in his ears.
Yu Lin stared at the wall, his mind spinning. "Was I really this stupid?" he whispered. "I gave up the one who loved me... for this?"
He went to Old Master Yu’s house. "Father... I want to come back," Yu Lin said.
Old Master Yu shook his head. "It is too late. All the property is now with your other brother."
Yu Lin frowned. "Other brother? Who?"
Old Master Yu’s eyes were cold. "The head of the Ou Family."
Yu Lin froze. "That man... he was my brother? Then in my past life, Holiya’s father..."
Old Master Yu looked away. "Yes."
Yu Lin walked out in shock. He later saw news of his past life’s children.
"That is my son... my daughter..." he whispered, watching the TV. "If I had stayed with their mother... maybe they’d still be mine."
But no matter how many times he begged for another chance, none came.
