Getting Stronger By Fighting-Chapter 506: Positioning_1
As soon as these words were spoken, the emotions in Wang Zhan’s heart immediately tensed. The Old Man’s urgent tone suggested something unexpected might have happened! Unfortunately, while the System had given him a tremendous head start, allowing him to far surpass others, he had never learned how to send messages telepathically. Therefore, he couldn’t ask any questions! As a result, with a HUM, a pair of enormous wings unfurled behind Wang Zhan, their deep blue aura and dark gold hues pulsating continuously. Then, relying on his control over his wings, Wang Zhan sped forward, rushing to the Old Man’s aid as quickly as possible.
However, the Old Man, perhaps worried he hadn’t been clear earlier and that Wang Zhan might accidentally scare it away, wasting all their efforts, decided to give further instructions. He hurriedly sent a telepathic message to Wang Zhan: "Oh, yes, watch your speed. Try not to alert other beasts. If you make too much noise and the giant snake gets spooked and runs, we’ll never catch it..."
Wang Zhan stopped in his tracks, almost cursing out loud.
Dammit!
He finally understood; the Old Man wasn’t in any real danger.
He had summoned Wang Zhan purely because of some mishap, not because he needed backup against a powerful enemy!
Of course, now they were in the same boat, so it was too late for Wang Zhan to back out, even if he wanted to. Therefore, he had no choice but to hurry over.
Upon arrival, he immediately spotted the character mysteriously hiding high up in a treetop. It had to be said, because this fellow wasn’t human, its hiding spot didn’t seem out of place at all. It looked quite natural. Plus, being small had its advantages. It could just hide inside a tree trunk, poke a couple of holes for eyes, and see everything clearly.
Seeing Wang Zhan arrive, the Old Man quickly and carefully greeted him, "Look!"
Wang Zhan initially thought nothing of the simple Pool. Especially in the dim, yellowing light of approaching dusk, he hadn’t noticed anything unusual. But after the Old Man’s reminder, Wang Zhan immediately noticed something was off. This wasn’t just an isolated Pool. It was a body of water connected to other underground river channels! Otherwise, it could never have maintained such a deep color and an unceasing supply of water.
That giant snake sure knows how to live comfortably.
And who would have thought... the giant snake potentially lurking below... was actually more cunning than a sly rabbit with three burrows; its escape routes were far more numerous than just three. If it sensed trouble, it could immediately use the waterways to flee, leaving no trace for anyone to find!
So cunning and devious!
The Old Man was currently at his wit’s end. If he could have solved it himself, he would have gone down there directly and wouldn’t have bothered Wang Zhan. But the problem was, even though he was just a ball of mental energy that wouldn’t attract attention or emit any smell of vital energy, the moment he entered the water, his movements and progress would create undercurrents, easily alerting others!
What’s more, the Old Man had also noticed, that giant snake was no simple character. Wang Zhan, that kid, hadn’t lied, but he hadn’t fully conveyed how terrifying the giant snake truly was. Because it was a cold-blooded animal, its combat strength, unless its head was severed, would be nearly double that of Human warriors of the same realm! As a result, the gap between it and the Old Man would naturally start to close, making the Old Man feel the situation was becoming tricky.
Another crucial point was that when facing such a powerful entity, if the two of them, proficient in mental energy, dared to use large amounts of it to search for the snake’s location, they would definitely be discovered! But, if they didn’t use their strengths, then this small Pool would become an insurmountable chasm, blocking them and rendering them immobile!
The only solution was to resort to the most primitive means. Either they had to play a waiting game, hoping the giant snake would appear on its own to forage, or, they had to take advantage of the quiet night, when the large beasts had returned to their lairs and the wilderness was temporarily free of major threats. They could force the giant snake out from below, eliminate it in one fell swoop, and then make a quick escape!
Wang Zhan remained silent, carefully scrutinizing the Pool and the Surroundings. Instantly, he constructed a detailed map of the location in his mind, accurate down to the millisecond. Then, he pieced together all the maps of the Southwest states he had memorized out of boredom, roughly determining the course of the underground river below. Only then did he say to the Old Man, "You wait here! Don’t let this giant snake slip away by accident. I’ll look for an entry point to get into the underground river below and hopefully force it out..."
The Old Man’s expression changed. "That’s not a good idea! If something happens to you down there, you’ll be beyond any help!"
Whether the Old Man was genuinely concerned or had other motives, Wang Zhan retorted coldly, "Do you have a better plan? Or should we just come all this way and return empty-handed? Stop worrying. I think this snake is a bit cunning, but it’s too powerful. In fact, ordinary beings are no match for it. Confidence often leads to a degree of arrogance. And that is our only chance this time..."
Wang Zhan explained. He certainly didn’t want to risk his life recklessly. It was as he said: This giant snake was too powerful. Being powerful meant it believed it could guarantee its own safety. In other words, although it currently seemed to have many escape routes like a cunning rabbit with three burrows, the giant snake’s vigilance was mainly for those big guys capable of forcing it to flee for its life. As long as they didn’t alert the enemy prematurely, there was no doubt it wouldn’t instantly abandon its confidence and react swiftly; instead, it would choose to fight. And this was Wang Zhan’s only opportunity. To use the giant snake’s arrogance to their advantage, exposing it to their combined assault, and then personally send it on its way.
Moreover, entering the underground river from another location would not only allow him to approach the giant snake stealthily but also to detect any traps and preparations below. This would help ensure their safety and prepare for any future trouble. Therefore, Wang Zhan said no more. He immediately became like a large bat. In a flash, relying on gliding momentum, he began to search and patrol mid-air, hoping to find an opening to that underground river basin.
And so, after an hour of this, during which Wang Zhan had tirelessly moved around the immediate area and was now more than ten kilometers from his starting point, directly north! He finally, by following the river’s course and the map’s annotations, found another entrance to the giant snake’s lair. As long as he moved upstream while minimizing any disturbance, the giant snake would never suspect that a member of the Human Race intent on taking its life was already silently lurking in the raging underground river, continuously drawing closer.
Wang Zhan’s only hope now was that the giant snake didn’t merely consider that Pool a small bend on its route, with its actual lair located elsewhere. Otherwise, Wang Zhan’s original plan—his current strategy of confirming its location, forcing it out from below to the surface, eliminating it in one fell swoop, and then immediately fleeing—would instantly become nothing but empty talk! Furthermore, Wang Zhan couldn’t hope for such a good opportunity again. Because for the giant snake, they were currently in a position of plotting against an unsuspecting foe; their advantage lay in the giant snake’s unpreparedness.
But if the giant snake knew that someone was secretly plotting against it, constantly preparing to turn it into a pile of roast meat, then, undoubtedly, it would become enraged like thunder. It would use all its abilities and rally those unsuspecting beasts to teach these two audacious and recklessly acting members of the Human Race a profound lesson, an inescapable heaven and earth net!
It, a dignified Martial Emperor of the Beast Clan!
If the Human Race dared to plot against it, then what wouldn’t this ugly, filthy, cowardly race dare to do?
In short, the consequences would be extremely severe. The ensuing chain reactions would undoubtedly be far more serious than Wang Zhan imagined. Therefore, since they had started, they had to see it through. He had decided the giant snake must be dealt with tonight; it absolutely couldn’t be postponed until tomorrow, lest delays bring complications!
For this reason, when Wang Zhan saw this pitch-black underground river, where only an occasional flash of phosphorescence revealed how deep and clear the water was, he took a deep breath. He steadily regulated his emotions, his expression becoming indifferent and perfectly calm. Then, in a voice only he could hear, he murmured to himself in his heart, "There’s only one chance... Opportunity knocks but once! Snot Worm, your good days are over..."
Instantly, with a low RUMBLE, Wang Zhan’s wings suddenly spread. His figure eerily took up nearly one-fifth of the space within the underground river. Wang Zhan immediately limited his speed to below that which would cause a sonic boom, his figure constantly rushing Forward. He looked just like a specter from Hell, flitting through the underground river! It was enough to make one’s blood run cold. Especially with Wang Zhan’s aura—icy, grim—and his determination to press Forward, Forward, and Forward again. If anyone were to witness such a scene, they would undoubtedly immediately imagine what a horrifying scene was about to unfold next!
