Chapter 155: Don’t heal

Charlotte’s heel pressed down harder, and Maerina gasped as the weight over her sternum threatened to crack her bone.

"My Kael..." Charlotte’s voice was so soft and gentle that it chilled Maerina to her bones.

"How dare you, filth..."

Maerina opened her mouth to speak, to plead, but Charlotte didn’t wait.

CRACK—!

With a single flicker of her aura, she launched Maerina across the room like a ragdoll.

The woman’s body smashed into a reinforced stone column with a sickening crunch.

Decorative crystal fixtures exploded into shards as her back bent against the surface.

Blood splattered the wall behind her like ink sprayed from a pen.

"ARGHHHH!!" Maerina slumped to the ground, coughing violently as her internal organs reeled from the impact.

Her limbs twitched as she struggled and her head throbbed; feeling the taste of blood coating her tongue.

Maerina attempted to crawl.

Pride and survival instinct fought a losing battle within her trembling body.

She reached for the edge of a chair... anything to stabilize herself.

But Charlotte was already there.

She grabbed Maerina by the collar of her ruined dress and slammed her headfirst into the floor.

THOOM

Marble cracked and the sound echoed through the empty mansion.

Again.

THOOM

And again.

CRACK

Blood pooled beneath Maerina’s temple now, smearing across the pristine floor.

And through it all... Charlotte smiled.

She tilted her head slightly, strands of her long blonde hair falling across her face.

"He’s mine," she whispered again, in a dreamy voice as though lost in reverie.

"He’s mine... he’s mine... mine..."

With a flick of her hand, she hurled Maerina across the room once more, the older woman crashing into a massive decorative bookshelf.

Maerina collapsed amid the wreckage and her breathing ragged as she felt liek her bones are being disjointed.

Yet Charlotte wasn’t done.

She walked forward, her boots echoing against broken marble and shattered pride... then reached down and lifted Maerina by her arm.

Maerina’s eyes widened "N-No, wait—!"

With no warning, no hesitation, Charlotte pulled back and ripped the hand from her shoulder.

*SPREESH* A horrifying wet pop and crack resounded as flesh tore and bones snapped, followed by an immediate geyser of blood.

"GUAARGHHH!!" Maerina’s gluttural scream echoed through the entire mansion.

Her body convulsed violently as she slumped forward, bleeding and her mind was barely able to process the sheer pain.

Charlotte stared down at the severed arm in her hand and tossed it aside like a bunch of scrap.

Her smile remained.

"Do you see now?" she asked, crouching beside Maerina, brushing aside the blood-soaked strands of her black hair gently.

"Do you understand what happens when you try to probe what’s mine?"

Maerina didn’t respond.

She couldn’t.

Her throat spasmed, gurgling through the torrent of pain.

Her consciousness fluttered in and out, like a dying flame.

Charlotte’s fingers gently gripped her chin, lifting her head up to force eye contact.

"I don’t care about your House," she whispered.

"I don’t care about you, your status, your schemes. If you look at him again, just look... I’ll take your eyes next. And if you ever think of using another spy... I will hang your headless corpse from your own gates and burn the Caeles name from every ledger in this country."

Charlotte stood slowly, brushing her bloodied gloves together.

Her boots clicked once as she stepped closer to Maerina’s twitching, half-conscious body.

"You have your precious daughter, don’t you?" she asked softly.

"What’s her name again... Ah yes, Lenessia."

Maerina stirred violently, her remaining hand clutching her blood-soaked side as her pupils dilated in terror.

Charlotte’s voice deepened, "She just reached S-rank recently. Quite impressive, really."

Charlotte tilted her head with a mock smile. "It’d be such a waste if her head ended up hanging beside yours on the walls of your manor."

"G—guargh... argh—!" Maerina wheezed, blood spilling from her lips.

"D-d—augh... t-ter..." frёeωebɳovel.com

Charlotte’s smile widened ever so slightly, her eyes curving like crescent moons "Hmm. You do love her, then."

She crouched once more, dragging her finger down the side of Maerina’s bruised and bloodied cheek tenderly.

"That’s sweet. A shame, really. You should’ve thought of her before trying to worm your way near my Kael."

Maerina whimpered in the back of her throat.

Charlotte stood again, her cloak swaying softly behind her "But now that I have your undivided attention. I want to ask you something else."

She paused mid-step, turning her head slightly, casting a glance over her shoulder.

"When my cute little Kael was giving his speech in the Church Capital, when he stood before the Empyrean, teh people and the Triarchs like the radiant star he is... was it your people who attacked him?"

Maerina blinked slowly through the pain and shook her head vigorously in fear.

Charlotte’s lashes lowered, and her smile grew thinner, "Hmm. No? You better hope you’re telling the truth, Maerina."

"Because when I find out who it is..."

She glanced down at the bloodied woman sprawled across the ruined floor.

But then without saying anything, she turned fully, walking toward the tall arched doors.

She stopped once more before leaving.

"Oh, and one more thing," Charlotte said in a casual voice.

"Never heal your hand."

"If I ever find out you restored that arm, even a prosthetic... I will come back, and I will rip it off again."

She tapped her boot gently on the marble tile.

"That missing arm should remind you of the moment you dared to touch what’s mine and what will happen to you."

And then, with a final click of her heels, she stepped through the shattered doorway and out into the courtyard.

Her body rose slowly into the air, and she dashed up to the sky.

Upward she soared, higher and higher, and from this height, the Caeles estate looked tiny.

She hovered midair, high above the clouds.

Her lips parted in a sigh, and the radiant blue glimmer in her eyes faded back to that deep, emerald green.

"...This cunt," she muttered to herself with a tired click of her tongue.

---

"it’s perfectly ok, come on."

Eira pulled Brandon’s hand as they walked through the dormitory grounds of the Academy.

The mid-morning sun filtered through the tree canopy that dotted the Academy’s landscaped dorm spaces, casting warm golden patches on the cobblestone paths.

The passingby students who live in the dorms were surprised to see the only male ether walking around in female dorm space.

A wave of gasps and whispers swept through the girls lounging near benches, walking with friends, or peeking out from their room balconies.

"What is he doing here?"

"Huh?"

"It’s the Bleaufort girl."

"I heard that they are dating..."

"Ehhh? really?"

"Well, she is lucky then."

Eira had a small, proud smile on her face as she walked with Brandon, holding his arm tightly.

Looking at him, she spoke "During holidays like today, we can spend time in the dorm space here."

"Like there are sports, games, foods, and everything, sometimes even concerts... and there are also free buses to go to Solvyrn City if you want to. It will be so fun here."

"Brannnn!?"

A sudden voice echoed and before Brandon could turn his head, someone sharply tapped his back "What are you doing here, Hahaha."

Brandon winced slightly in pain and turned to look at the cheerful girl smiling widely "Elena..."

Elena just grinned and spoke "What? Taking a small walk with your girlfriend?"

WIth a dry smile, he nodded his head "Yeah..."

Eira blushed and lowered her head in embarrassment.

Elena looked at Eira burning face and smirked "Hohh, not hiding it anymore, heh. Sheesh, you two are sickeningly cute."

She tilted her head and asked "Are you guys going to the Cafeteria to get breakfast?"

Brandon nodded his head "Yeah..."

Elena’s smile widened "Then, I am also coming with you... buy me food."

"Sure, come on."

"Yahaha, free food."

---

The cafeteria during holiday mornings was a sight to behold.

Dozens of food stalls lined the walls, staffed by both Academy kitchen staff and contracted chefs.

The trio stepped inside, immediately met with warmth and the smell of rich food.

Brandon pulled his mobile from his pants, but before he could approach the ordering kiosk, Elena grabbed his arm and dragged him toward the far-left section, one of the high-end gourmet vendors reserved for students with noble lineage or VIP tokens.

"Wait, Elena-"

"We’re going big, Branny boy. You offered, remember?" she muttered as she dragged him forward with surprising strength for someone her size.

Eira followed with a deadpan stare and a twitch in her eye "You don’t have to bankrupt him in one morning."

"Oh please, he’s dating you, Bleaufort heiress. I’m sure he’s covered," Elena teased.

Brandon gave a weak laugh as they arrived at the stall.

The menu shimmered into view as they approached.

—Butter-seared Starfish Roe Omelet with Herb Drizzle: 68 Credits

—Valley Quail Breast with fruit Glaze: 74 Credits

—Triple-Crested Pancake Stack with whipped ice milk and candied aetherberries: 82 Credits

—Royal Tealeaf Steeped Broth (heals minor fatigue): 33 Credits per cup

"Hmm. I’ll take this, this, and two of those pancakes, one to eat now, one to pack for later. And... ooh, tea!"

Eira, more reserved in her tastes, ordered a plate of smoked eggs with white rice and miso soup.

After picking up their food trays, the three of them headed to the balcony level of the cafeteria, where long tables and soft-cushioned benches overlooked the courtyards.

They found a quiet corner near the open railing, with sunlight pouring in and a gentle breeze filtering through enchanted climate wards.

Elena placed her plate with a big smile "Ahhhh, nothing like the taste of food you didn’t pay for."

Brandon let out a chuckle and they began to eat their food.
