Getting spoiled in a woman dominating world-Chapter 118: The woman
Chapter 118: The woman
Faint footsteps echoed in the dimly lit pathway as Brandon and Callista walked through the church’s western chambers.
Looking at him, she spoke "Lord Herald, this is the Hall of Contrition, also known informally as the Church’s prison, though the term hardly does it justice."
Brandon glanced over his shoulder, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Contrition? A place for confession and repentance?"
A faint smile touched her lips, "That’s what it was originally built for. In the oldest records, it was intended as a place where heretics and doubters could reflect on their sins and return to the divine path through prayer and guided penance."
"But now it’s used as a prison."
As they reached a wide archway where two armored priestesses stood guard, Callista paused and gestured toward a metal door.
One of the guards stepped forward and offered a low bow to Brandon.
Then, without hesitation, she opened the door for them.
Inside the facility, he saw the prisoners walking around, and some people were kneeling on the floor, praying to the Goddess of Rheanne.
Noticing the people entering the prison room, everyone in the facility was surprised and looked at Brandon in confusion.
Brandon looked around at them and Callista beside him spoke "They are prisoners who did minor violations and will be released soon after they serve their punishment."
"Some of them got their ether core sealed, and for some of them, it’s destroyed."
Hearing this, Brandon’s gaze narrowed ’Then these people don’t deserve death...’
He turned to her and spoke "Take me to the place where people who will get executed in the future are kept."
Callista was quite confused as she still couldn’t understand his plan "Yes, Lord Herald."
She turned, signaling to one of the priestesses standing by the archway.
The guard nodded and guided them to another part of the prison.
The hallway twisted and narrowed until they reached a massive blackened steel door reinforced with chains.
Two elite guards stood at attention outside it with their eyes hidden behind visors, their armor bearing the sigil of Judicara, the Church’s execution order.
The chamber inside was circular, with some containment cells arrayed around a central platform.
Each cell was isolated with etherglass and from outside, Brandon could see the people inside.
In the first cell, there was a naked woman with long crimson hair sitting cross-legged in a meditative position with glowing tattoos across her body.
"She devoured three villages," Callista said softly.
"Claimed it was in the name of a lost Goddess, a ’True Mother.’ Refused all attempts at penance. She will be executed soon."
Seeing her, Brandon’s gaze narrowed slightly ’She would be of no use. I want someone who can be tamed...’
As he walked through the corridor, he noticed a naked woman hanging from the ceiling, with her hands tied in chains as her body swayed slightly.
Her black hair was disheveled and her breasts rose up and down as she took deep breaths.
Her body was marred by dark red welts and crimson lash marks that crisscrossed her flesh, across her ribs, her thighs, the curve of her hips and her breasts.
Some marks were fresh, glistening with a faint sheen of blood that caught the dim light, while others had scabbed over.
Looking into her eyes, his gaze narrowed, as she looked like she had lost all hope and light.
A single tear slipped down her eye, tracing a line over her bruised skin.
Her lips, cracked and bloodied, trembled faintly and slowly parted as if to speak, but no sound came as she let out a breath.
Seeing this, Brandon turned back to look at Callista "What about her?"
Hm? Looking at the woman hanging, Callista thought for a second before speaking "A spy sent by one of the Great Houses. She also tried to kill our Acolyte, Valiene."
"Her punishment is... ongoing, but her execution is inevitable."
Brandon again looked at her naked body "Open the door."
Callista was surprised for a moment but then she nodded to one of the elite guards stationed by the massive blackened steel door.
The guard stepped forward, and with a low bow to Brandon, she took a key and turned the lock.
The door groaned open, revealing the full extent of the cell’s grim interior.
Feeling the sharp air inside, Brandon stepped in.
Her chains creaked as she shifted slightly and raised her head for a second to look at the young man in front of her.
"Lower her."
The chains rattled as the mechanism was engaged, and the woman’s body descended slowly, her feet touching the stone floor.
Her knees buckled slightly as the strain on her arms eased.
Brandon stepped closer and grasped her jaw, lifting her chin gently, forcing her to meet his gaze.
Looking into her hollow eyes, he muttered "What is your name?"
The woman looked at his face for a moment and as she opened her lips to speak, she suddenly coughed "Urgh..."
At this time, the Prison guard came inside with a chair and placed it down "Lord Herald."
With a nod, Brandon sat on his chair and glanced at the guard "Give her some water."
The guard nodded her head and turned to fulfill her order.
Brandon leaned back on the chair and looked at the woman.
Her thighs trembled as she struggled to balance and slowly kneeled down on the floor beside Brandon.
Callista walked to him and spoke "Lord Herald, her crimes are severe. A spy and would-be assassin... she cannot be trusted."
The guard returned with a cup of water.
She stepped toward the woman and held the cup to her cracked lips, tilting it carefully to allow her to drink.
The woman’s throat worked desperately and her lips trembled as she sipped, water spilling down her chin, mingling with the blood and tears, dripping onto her chest, where it traced a path over the welts and scars.
She drank greedily and closed her eyes for a moment as a faint shudder of relief passed through her battered body, though her chains clinked softly as she leaned into the cup, her body still trembling from the strain.
When the cup was empty, the guard stepped back, bowing to Brandon before retreating to the cell’s edge.
The woman’s breath steadied slightly, her lips glistening with water.
She slowly raised her gaze to look at Brandon "K-Kim.. Seon-hwa. My name..."
