Genshin Impact: Joining the Genius Society-Chapter 238: Topaz: “Isn’t This Attack Range a Bit Too Long?!”
An executive of the Interastral Peace Corporation.
A newly risen member of the Genius Society who had just caused a sensation across the universe.
When it came to influence, Jade couldn’t hold a candle to Su Ran.
Corporate executives could always be replaced.
But geniuses weren’t something that could appear whenever one wanted.
Especially after Su Ran had created several constructs that even geniuses found shocking,
the Corporation began to value him even more.
For that reason, even if they had to send Jade over personally, they wouldn’t bat an eye.
As a senior executive and a high-ranking member of the Strategic Investment Department, everything Jade did was naturally for the benefit of the Corporation.
Investing in geniuses was itself a discipline.
But it was far from simple.
Most geniuses preferred to act alone
and rarely dealt with the Corporation at all.
Herta was much the same.
Fortunately, Asta existed as a middleman, which allowed the Corporation and Herta to maintain at least a minimal connection.
Though even that connection wasn’t particularly strong.
That was precisely why Asta’s family was willing to let her stay out of internal power struggles—
because she had Herta backing her.
"Miss, may I ask—are your clothes custom-made?
Do you have a link? I’d like to get some outfits made for my sugar mommy too."
"This is exclusive tailoring.
If Mr. Su Ran would like, I can provide the tailor’s contact information."
Jade treated the genius with great patience.
After all, patience was essential when dealing with talents of this level.
"Handmade? Seriously?
With technology this advanced, shouldn’t tech-based manufacturing be faster and more precise?"
Coming to a universe whose technology far surpassed his own era, only to find that custom clothing was still handmade—
Su Ran found it oddly unsettling.
"In some eras, craftsmanship might be superior," he added, "but with tech this advanced, choosing manual work still feels strange."
"Yes. Those tailors use the latest technology."
"So... cyber-handmade."
Su Ran continued to observe Jade closely, while she calmly allowed his scrutiny.
"The space station orbits a blue planet, but it’s not like there’s a blazing sun here.
Why are you still wearing a hat?"
Jade quietly removed the hat from her head, allowing him to see more clearly.
Su Ran continued testing her with several more questions.
Yet even as the questions grew increasingly unreasonable, Jade accepted every one of them.
Like a flawless service professional, she endured all of the customer’s provocations.
That airtight, impenetrable defense made the conversation dull.
"I feel like you’re way less fun than the ranking-buyer girl.
Not nearly as interesting as her."
Because Jade’s answers were too perfect, Su Ran couldn’t find any real cracks.
And even when he did find minor flaws, they were completely irrelevant.
She never lost her composure.
Never snapped.
It felt like punching cotton.
After several exchanges, Su Ran lost interest and decided not to continue.
"Interesting...?"
Su Ran’s words made Jade feel a surge of regret.
She had assumed the earlier provocations were tests— attempts to evaluate her ability.
She never imagined he was simply trying to mess with her for fun.
He just wanted to see her lose composure?
Was it really that simple?
Because she had overthought everything, she’d chosen the completely wrong approach.
And now, Su Ran has lost interest.
"Please, I’m not one of your debtors.
You don’t need that formulaic attitude.
It’s boring. Way less personality than the ranking-buyer girl."
Su Ran waved his hand dismissively.
"Just go back and tell your higher-ups that the mission failed.
Next time, send someone else. Dragon Crystal would be fine too.
Well then—paths cross again someday. See you~"
With that, Su Ran turned around and left without looking back.
Jade stood there, stunned.
"Wait..."
She reached out in his direction—but this time, there was no response.
None of the earlier provocations had troubled her.
But this farewell broke her composure.
Was it really possible for someone to be this childish?
There were clear interests to negotiate, yet he cared more about seeing others embarrassed?
If he weren’t a confirmed member of the Genius Society, she would’ve thought he was a Masked Fool.
"So... was my research insufficient?
I should’ve spoken with Little Yelena more thoroughly before coming."
In her eyes, Topaz—who she’d thought was inexperienced— was actually more appealing to Su Ran? 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
As for Dragon Crystal...
That bloodthirsty, arrogant woman— was she really suited to dealing with Su Ran?
This brief yet complex exchange left a deep impression on Jade.
She had carefully memorized everything Topaz had asked Sandgold to pass on—
yet it proved useless.
Geniuses truly couldn’t be handled like ordinary people.
She considered trying to salvage the situation, but once she realized the negotiation had already failed, she feared that pushing further might only provoke his displeasure.
So she temporarily gave up on meeting him again.
On a distant planet, Topaz was in the middle of clearing non-performing assets when she suddenly received a call from Jade.
She put down her work and answered.
"Ms. Jade? Is there something you need?"
If Herta was Asta’s benefactor, then Jade was Topaz’s.
Topaz had always deeply respected Lady Jade.
"Ranking-buyer girl... I failed."
Jade’s opening line stunned Topaz.
Even Ms. Jade knew that nickname now?
Was that Sandgold bastard responsible?!
"It seems Mr. Su Ran is more interested in you, Ranking-buyer girl.
Could you tell me how that nickname came about?"
Though the mission had failed and Jade wasn’t in the best mood, she still maintained a calm attitude when speaking with Topaz.
On the other end, however, Topaz did not share that calm.
She was already this far away— and Su Ran’s attack still managed to hit her?!
