Chapter 111: Future

"What I want, huh?" Caleb looked directly into the duchess’ eyes. "Are you sure that’s how you want to play this?"

The duchess sat forward, exposing a bit of cleavage while accepting the challenge like the boss she was.

"I wouldn’t have said that if I didn’t." Silvia replied confidently. "A man like yourself should know what he wants, correct?" freёnovelkiss.com

"Tsk!"

A sudden snort from Jess interrupted the rising steam. The catwoman didn’t like what the duchess was doing; it pissed her off. But Jess wouldn’t be outdone.

She boldly stood up, her eyes on the duchess as she moved to sit by Caleb, leaning into his body. The cat was marking her territory.

Even if she understood Caleb would eventually have more lovers, she wanted to make them understand she was first.

Her little act interrupted the duchess’ rising momentum, but Silvia couldn’t afford to show any displeasure. Even if she was the noble in the room, Caleb had all the power.

’This bitch!’ The duchess growled inwardly, maintaining a stiff smile on her face. ’She can’t possibly believe this male specimen will only have one partner in his life, can she?’

"I apologize for her behaviour," Caleb said, holding Jess closer. "She’s a bit feisty for some reason."

"Of course, Mr. Zane." Silvia could only smile forcefully. "She’s a woman and we have these kinds of days."

With Jess now in the way, Silvia could no longer flirt like she intended. The man’s attention would be divided between the cat and her.

’She will definitely interrupt if Caleb begins to pay more attention to my moves.’ The duchess knew all too well how these things played out. ’I didn’t think I would be finding another man I would be interested in. But this bitch had to ruin everything.’

Silvia was having a hard time maintaining her smile. She only consoled herself with the fact that there was always another chance. Of course, she’s not giving up today either.

In the back, Commander Fred frowned in displeasure. Like the duchess, he knew the catwoman purposefully interrupted her game. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do besides glare at Jess.

’Anyone else would have been punished severely for that behaviour.’ Fred thought silently. ’She’s very fortunate to have someone like Caleb on her side.’

"Thank you, my lady." Caleb nodded and then added. "As for your proposal, I never really had an intention to tie myself down to an employer. I’m more of a free spirit, you know?"

Silvia expected this reply. She knew it wasn’t going to be easy having Caleb over to her side. If he was swayed by riches, it would have been a whole lot easier.

But Caleb was capable of making his own money and Silvia also understood the nature of men and the pride they had in working to acquire their own wealth.

"I understand, Mr. Zane." The duchess reclined in her chair, her charm slowly returning. "But when I say work for me, I didn’t mean it in a way that would restrict your freedom. It’s more of an in-name kind of thing.

"You’ll have all the resources at your disposal. Whatever you need or desire, I’m willing to give." The duchess stared into Caleb’s eyes. "What...ever."

"You don’t say..." Caleb couldn’t help but gulp slightly.

The duchess knew how to speak to a man and get the kind of reply she wanted. Her deal was good, too good in fact. She was willing to give Caleb the autonomy to do whatever he wanted.

All she asked was to be recognized as the noble who stood behind him, protecting him from the clutches of those who would seek to take advantage of him; not that it was possible, but still.

Even Jess was surprised by the duchess’ words. But she quickly understood why the duchess would go this far. Without knowing what Caleb was truly capable of, she took a bet on him.

The duchess exhibited a level of foresight that Jess admitted she lacked. Had she not started developing feelings for Caleb, who knows where she might have ended up after he assisted her with the noble issue?

The offer was unlike anything Caleb would get anywhere. She doubted the Royals would give him this level of autonomy. Looking at Caleb’s expression, Jess was more than certain Caleb would accept.

The fact that he was also interested in this alluring older woman made that decision all the easier. The duchess had inexplicably stated she was also interested in Caleb as a man.

After several seconds of staring into each other’s eyes, Caleb closed his eyes and sighed softly. The sincerity of the duchess was real. Her interest she had in him was also real and not because of the power he wielded.

’This is madness...’ Caleb pondered. ’For a woman I’m just meeting to show this level of determination and certainty in her desire is new to me.’

Maybe things in this world were different, but Caleb was willing to bet his powers that this woman was genuine in her words. He doubted he would have an offer like this from the Royals.

’Perhaps they would.’ Caleb reconsidered. ’Then again, the Royals won’t be desiring to marry me or anything like that.’

With the duchess, Caleb knew exactly what he would be getting. It may not be at the level of the Royals, but he was sure her seal would open any door he may face in the future.

Caleb looked at Jess for a moment, and seeing Jess make no comments, he knew the catwoman was on board as well, despite her earlier behaviour.

Commander Fred flashed a subtle smile. This was it; the duchess had succeeded in winning him over! He thanked the Goddess Caleb found the duchess attractive. Scratch that, who wouldn’t?

The butler’s expression was the same, but inside, he was beaming with joy. He had watched the duchess stress over how to convince this mysterious man. Fortunately, mutual attraction made things very easy.

Caleb suddenly set Jess aside and stood up, prompting the duchess to do the same. She knew the moment had come and that she had succeeded in bringing this man to her side.

A smile bloomed on the lips of the duchess as she watched Caleb step closer to her. He came to stand right in front of her, barely leaving a few centimetres of space between them.

The duchess looked into Caleb’s eyes, her heart racing slightly in anticipation. Caleb grabbed her right hand and brought it to his lips, his eyes staring straight into the duchess’.

"It would be my honour to have you, Duchess Silvia Erindor." He placed a soft kiss on the back of her hand. "I look forward to our future together."
