Gateway of Immortality-Chapter 817: Uninvited Guest
During this period, Qin Sang racked his brain, trying to find a way to lure Luo Daotong off the island.
But this was the heart of the waters controlled by both the righteous and devilish factions. Qin Sang could not act recklessly. If he made too much noise, he might draw in other powerful cultivators from nearby islands.
He thought up many plans, but ultimately discarded them all.
If he could use the Sky-Eyed Butterfly to spot flaws in the island’s defensive array, he would no longer have to wait endlessly.
Qin Sang used his sword to fly out of Nandu Island, heading straight for Liangqiu Island. Halfway there, he slowed his light and activated the Spirit Evasion Art, concealing his presence.
Soon, Liangqiu Island came into view.
It was not large, yet brimming with spiritual energy, hiding within it a top-tier spirit vein.
Because of this, Luo Daotong had placed almost the entire island under the cover of a defensive spiritual array. From the outside, only the faint silhouette of a mountain could be seen.
The sky had not yet lightened; it was the darkest hour before dawn.
Strange light shimmered across the island’s array, brilliant as if in resonance with the stars above.
Qin Sang observed from afar for a while before continuing his approach. He dared not be so bold as to set foot on the island directly, so he stopped over the sea nearby.
Holding his breath, he floated motionless with the waves, then released the Sky-Eyed Butterfly.
The butterfly landed on his shoulder, spread its wings, and fixed its Sky Eyes on Liangqiu Island.
Linked to its mind, Qin Sang’s vision began to change. His sight passed through layers of strange light until at last the mountain’s outline emerged.
A solitary, perilous peak rose into the sky. A thin white line trailed down its side, most likely a waterfall.
Because of the distance, he could not make out details clearly and had yet to locate Luo Daotong’s cave dwelling. He was in no rush, however, and shifted his attention to the strange light.
The light was the manifestation of the defensive spiritual array, serving as both a visual barrier and a formidable shield in its own right. Each beam of light was laced with countless runes.
An hour later, with dawn approaching, Qin Sang rubbed his forehead, deep in thought.
"This is a type of array I have never seen before. Its power is immense. I think I have spotted a few weak points, but they still need verification. Still, to kill Luo Daotong, finding a flaw will not be enough. I will have to break the array and strike fast enough that he has no time to react. A quick and decisive battle of this level is far too difficult. I will have to completely dismantle the array, and that will not happen overnight."
He memorized the runes he had seen, preparing to analyze them slowly once back home, then quietly withdrew.
Back at his cave dwelling, Qin Sang secluded himself to study the runes.
As expected, Luo Daotong was no simple figure. His defensive array was extremely complex, beyond anything Qin Sang himself could set up. There was surely someone stronger behind it.
Moreover, the defensive system on the island was not a single array but several interlocked together, forming an impregnable defense.
Without the Sky-Eyed Butterfly, there would have been no way to discern the connections between them, and any attempt to enter would have immediately triggered a trap.
"Far too complex." Qin Sang sighed. He had no choice but to patiently study the runes, searching for patterns. Every few days, he would return to observe the array again and compare it with his earlier insights.
If he could get close enough to touch the array, his progress would be far quicker. But without daring to step onto the island, he could not see the full picture, and his progress was slow, especially with his high standards.
It took nearly a month before he finally pieced together some of its structure.
Just when he was feeling pleased, something unexpected happened without the slightest warning.
That night, tired from days of constant study, Qin Sang had paused to work on his body refinement outside. Suddenly, a pillar of light shot into the sky from the direction of the sea.
Startled, he opened his eyes and saw, to his astonishment, that the beam came from Liangqiu Island.
His figure flickered as he flashed to the mountaintop and looked toward it.
The pillar of light vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Almost immediately, strange radiance reappeared in that direction.
In the dark of night, it was clear as day. Countless beams of light burst forth, illuminating half the sky, swirling like a multicolored flame dancing wildly above the island.
The light surged and faded in irregular bursts.
At the same time, waves rolled outward from that direction.
Confused, Qin Sang did not hesitate to ride his sword toward the source of the light.
Before long, he saw it clearly.
"That is Liangqiu Island. Someone is attacking it! How? Aside from me, does anyone else have their eyes on Liangqiu Island all this time? And without any sign at all? I have been mingling with the nearby cultivators and never sensed the slightest hint!" He was at a loss.
He had been close to unraveling the array’s workings, ready to act in a short while, only to have a mysterious attacker seize the opportunity first. Qin Sang did not see this coming at all.
The identity of this intruder was a mystery, the strike coming without warning.
The intruder dared to attack the island directly, shaking its defensive array and causing such a commotion without fear.
At first, the pillar of light had soared skyward. Now the glow still covered half the sky, but its momentum was beginning to weaken. It was clear that the intruder either possessed immense strength or had complete mastery over spiritual arrays.
Qin Sang frowned. Whoever they were, if they could test Luo Daotong’s true power, it might not be a bad thing.
He had no intention of leaving just yet. There might be an opportunity to fish in troubled waters. But timing was everything.
The attacker likely did not know that Luo Daotong had a Spiritual Infant grandmaster backing him. The commotion would surely draw attention, and reinforcements would arrive soon.
Before that happened, if Qin Sang could capture Luo Daotong amid the chaos, he could pin the blame on this intruder. Even if he failed to act, he could at least take the chance to learn which faction stood behind Luo Daotong.
His eyes lit up. Concealing his presence, he sped toward the battle.
As he traveled, he kept watch on the battlefield. The light, though waning, was stubborn, refusing to go out. This meant Luo Daotong had withstood the sneak attack.
Qin Sang could not help thinking, If you cannot even breach the array, attacking the island is a waste. This has to be a brute with more brawn than brains.
Before long, Liangqiu Island came into view.
From afar, the light bursting from the island covered it entirely. The two sides were locked in fierce battle. Angry roars rang out from within, and the shockwaves of their clash sent towering waves crashing outward, throwing the surrounding sea into chaos.
To the naked eye, it was impossible to judge the situation.
Qin Sang had never met Luo Daotong and could not tell if the roar belonged to him.
"Looks like they are in the thick of it. This attacker will not be able to kill Luo Daotong so easily. Too reckless. If I had known about him earlier, I could have joined forces and saved myself all this time."
With a sigh, Qin Sang edged closer and released the Sky-Eyed Butterfly to observe the battle in secret.
Its gaze pierced through the strange light, revealing a surprising scene.
There were three people standing on the island, yet only one of them was attacking the array.
