Garbage Warrior System-Chapter 6 – Rising Tempest
Chapter 6 – Rising Tempest
The alley quivered with tension, a storm pressed into the narrow confines of crumbling brick and rusted tin. Crow’s men shifted uneasily, pipes and blades glinting in the dim lantern light. Renji Kuroda smirked as if the filth of the slums couldn’t touch him, his school uniform pristine, his arrogance sharper than any weapon. And in the middle stood Rai, fists clenched, Yuki trembling behind him.
Two worlds had collided—one of gutter gangs clawing for survival, and one of academy bullies wielding privilege like a whip. And Rai was the spark between them.
Crow spat in the dirt, his scarred grin stretched wide. “I told you, brat—this is my territory. You don’t just stroll in here with your silk shoes and shiny hair.”
Renji laughed coldly. “Territory? Don’t make me laugh. The hunters would burn you out in seconds if I lifted a finger. But maybe...” His eyes flicked to Rai. “...maybe I’ll let you keep your playground. I only came for the trash boy.”
The crowd murmured. Yuki gasped, clutching her brother’s sleeve. Crow’s scar twitched as he narrowed his eyes at Rai.
“So,” Crow drawled, “he’s one of yours, is he?”
Renji sneered. “Hardly. He’s a stain on the academy. But watching him squirm here in the dirt? That’s worth my time.”
Something inside Rai twisted. Rage, shame, the gnawing weight of the system’s words still lingering in his vision—
[Quest— Protect Yuki and Survive the Night.]
He couldn’t show his hand. Not yet. Every ounce of strength he had from the system would paint a target on his back if either side realized it. But the way Renji looked at Yuki—like she was leverage—made Rai’s blood burn.
Crow cracked his knuckles. “If you want him, you’ll have to go through me first.”
The alley erupted.
Crow’s men lunged at Renji’s cronies, blades clashing against metal pipes, fists smashing into jaws. The slums roared with chaos as the two packs collided. Dust and curses filled the air.
Renji stepped back with a mocking grin, watching the carnage unfold. He wanted a show. He wanted Rai crushed under the weight of desperation.
But Rai didn’t move for the fight. His eyes darted everywhere, calculating. Yuki was exposed. In this chaos, anyone could snatch her, use her, hurt her. His sister was the true battlefield.
“Stay close, Yuki,” he whispered, pulling her behind a stack of crates.
“Rai, they’re everywhere!” she cried.
“I know. Just trust me.”
As he said the words, the faint hum of the system vibrated in his chest. He didn’t need to shout commands anymore. It obeyed his intent.
[Automatic Garbage Absorber – Level 1 Activated.]
Within a radius of five hundred meters, the filth of the slums began to respond. Trash piles hidden in alley corners, broken glass, rotting food, discarded cans—all of it shimmered faintly, invisible to everyone else, before dissolving into particles of energy that streamed into Rai’s body.
Strength surged through his veins, subtle but undeniable. His vision sharpened, his reflexes quickened, his fists itched for violence. Yet he forced the system to act quietly, drawing only what he needed. No one could know.
A thug broke free from the melee, spotting Yuki. His teeth bared in a hungry grin as he swung his pipe down.
Rai moved like a shadow. In one motion, he shoved Yuki behind him, caught the pipe mid-swing, and slammed his fist into the thug’s gut. The man crumpled, gasping for air.
Yuki’s eyes widened. “Rai... you—”
“Not now!” he barked, scanning for the next threat.
Renji clapped mockingly. “Impressive! I didn’t think gutter rats had claws.” His smile widened. “But what happens when there’s too many?”
As if summoned by his words, three more thugs broke toward them. Rai cursed under his breath. His body was stronger, but he wasn’t invincible.
The system’s voice whispered in his mind.
[Optional Sub-Task— Defeat Enemies Without Revealing Full Power.]
Reward— Minor Skill Shard.
He gritted his teeth. “Always playing games with me...”
The first thug lunged. Rai sidestepped, grabbed the man’s arm, and twisted it hard, sending him crashing face-first into the dirt. The second swung a blade, but Rai ducked, slamming his elbow into the thug’s chest. The third tried to grab Yuki, but Rai’s knee cracked into his jaw with a sickening snap.
Each motion was precise, efficient, and restrained. He could have ended them brutally with the full weight of the system’s strength, but he held back, disguising his moves as nothing more than desperate slum-born instincts.
Still, Renji’s eyes narrowed. He saw too much. “You’re different,” he muttered under his breath.
Crow noticed too. Blood dripped from his knuckles as he shoved one of Renji’s cronies aside. His gaze locked on Rai, suspicion swirling in the depths of his scarred face. “You’re hiding something, boy.”
Rai stiffened. For a moment, the entire fight seemed to fade, every eye turning toward him. Yuki’s small hand clutched his tightly, her fear radiating into him.
And then—
A howl split the night.
Not human. Not from the gangs. Something deeper, hungrier. The sound rolled across the slums like thunder, silencing every clash of steel and shout of rage.
The lanterns flickered. Shadows stretched unnaturally long. The stench of rot thickened in the air.
Renji’s smirk vanished. “What the hell was that?”
Crow froze, his scarred face paling for the first time. “That... that wasn’t human.”
Rai’s heart slammed in his chest. He had heard that sound before—outside the gates, during a monster wave. But here, in the slums? That was impossible. Unless—
The system’s voice cut through the silence.
[New Threat Detected.]
[Quest Updated— Protect Yuki and Survive the Night.]
[Additional Objective— Investigate the Source of the Howl.]
The ground beneath them trembled. From the far end of the alley, the shadows began to ripple. Figures emerged, crawling on all fours, eyes glowing faintly green in the dark. Not full-sized monsters—but fragments, spawn, cracks leaking through the world where no gate should exist.
The slums erupted in screams. Gangsters dropped their weapons, scattering. Even Crow stepped back, his men faltering. Renji cursed, stumbling as the creatures advanced.
Rai pulled Yuki behind him, his mind racing.
“Monsters... here?” he whispered.
The system pulsed.
[Warning— Anomaly Detected. Someone is tampering with the gates.]
Rai’s eyes narrowed. Crow and Renji weren’t the true threats tonight. Something darker was at work, and he was standing in the middle of it.
