Chapter 594: Chapter 592: Lawyer

The bald black man sighed. "Anyway, let’s thank Mr. Steve Torn, the God of Agony and Long-Distance Communication, once again. His establishment of the 5G base stations not only gave us mobile networks but also healed the split in the Underworld to a certain extent. This allowed various forces to finally sit down and properly negotiate the selection of this term’s Underworld Council members. And you have been chosen as the legal Advisor."

"Me?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

The Mule pointed at himself.

To be honest, his mind was already in disarray when the bald black man mentioned the names of five dinosaurs from the American ’90s cartoon "Interstellar Dinosaurs." This bizarre and self-indulging world setting would not even appear in a Japanese light novel with a title exceeding twenty characters.

"Yes, you are Attorney Kevin Roams. People in the real world hail you as the embodiment of the law, the paragon of morality, and the synonym for justice. You never fear authority, uphold the truth, and protect the good from evil. You are a vegetarian and treat all life kindly. Your conduct is impeccable, perfectly embodying mainstream human morals, which aligns with the Dinosaur Majesty’s taste."

The bald black man humbly said, "We have asked you to come because we need you to use your legal expertise to help the Underworld Council solve some difficult problems."

The Mule asked subconsciously, "What problems?"

"That I do not know," the bald black man shook his head. "Although I am the most senior and experienced Messenger in the Underworld, I am just a Messenger. I’m not privy to insider information."

"..."

The Mule remained silent, a sense of foreboding suddenly rising within him.

If this hellish journey required him to slay monsters along the way and complete adventures, that would be one thing. Having four players by his side for support—collecting information, performing Divination, strategizing, each with their own tasks—he had no fear of combat-related tasks.

But if the mission was to be accomplished purely through verbal jousting...

The socially challenged Mule felt his life was going to be very difficult.

"Tsk, it turns out we were all deceived by the System," the Witch clicked her tongue in displeasure, squinting her eyes as she said, "I thought the mission description of ’Following the Messenger of the Underworld, journey through the Underworld Hell’ meant we’d be accompanying the Messenger of the Underworld like Dante, experiencing Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise Mountain. It didn’t occur to me that this mission description was just a front. The so-called journey is actually just a sightseeing tour. The actual main event is probably the ’legal affairs’ Ferry mentioned."

"So what do we do?" The Forest Cat, holding a camera, looked at her companions somewhat bewildered. "I’m no lawyer. Uh, does anyone here specialize in law?"

"I can recall some legal provisions from the world’s five major legal systems," the Black Trojan said helplessly. "I can even recite them clearly. But my understanding of the law is limited to recitation only. Using them proficiently is probably unrealistic."

The three players looked at each other, sharing the awkwardness of someone who "studied math all night, feeling fully confident, only to face an English exam the next day." Studying did take place, but it was the wrong subject!

The Mule looked unwaveringly at Ferry, his ears tuned to the conversation of the three experts, his heart chilling. It’s true, he was an Information Broker, and he had helped clients solve legal disputes. But after all, he wasn’t a professional lawyer. When it comes to the nitty-gritty of the law, he was completely out of his depth.

"So, what do we do now?" Forest Cat hesitated. "None of us know anything about legal matters. If Mr. Employer gets questioned, he’ll give himself away in no time."

The Witch frowned. "Stay calm. The System wouldn’t issue a task that’s bound to fail. The moment it teleported Mr. Employer into the task world, it tailored a path or multiple paths to success for him. There has to be a way out..."

The three furrowed their brows in thought.

The Black Trojan thought of something and turned to look at Li Ang, only to see Li Ang floating in mid-air, with his hands cupped around his eyes like binoculars, looking at a distant "5G signal tower."

Combining traditional mystical rituals with modern integrated circuit technology, huh? Oh man, what a brilliant idea, I’m going to try this out...

Li Ang stared at the signal tower, marveling to himself.

The Black Trojan couldn’t help but cough twice to catch his attention. "Ahem, Mr. Shadow Man?"

The Black Trojan waved at Li Ang, making him float down from mid-air.

"What is it?"

"We were discussing the strategy for the script," the Black Trojan explained. "What do you think about it?"

Li Ang said matter-of-factly, "I, of course, am watching from the sidelines."

The Black Trojan said, "...I’m not asking about the angle from which you’re watching. I’m asking if you have any solutions."

"Solutions, huh..." Li Ang’s brows slightly furrowed. "Legal matters... I can only say I have a smattering of knowledge, definitely not enough to call it professional."

"That still beats knowing nothing at all."

Reassured by the response, the Black Trojan turned to the Mule. "Mr. Employer, the top priority is to get more information out of this Messenger. Whether we’re to act as defense attorneys in a trial or use our knowledge of the law to write legislation for the Underworld, we need to understand its customs first."

The Mule didn’t reply, just motioned with his fingers behind his back to show he understood.

"Ah, it’s getting late," the bald black man glanced at the alarm on his cellphone screen and said with a smile to the Mule. "We better move on quickly. Our journey ahead is not going to be easy."

He tapped the ground a few times with his staff, and the ground beneath the Mule’s feet started to swiftly move backward, instantly covering a vast distance. When he opened his eyes again, the Mule found himself in front of a wall.

This wall, made of black boulders, towered into the clouds, stretching across the horizon on both sides, majestic and imposing. Just from looking at it from afar, one could feel the overwhelming pressure of a miraculous divine creation.

In the middle of the wall, there was a tall wooden door with two rows of strange inscriptions carved into it; the upper row showed signs of being scratched out, while the carvings of the lower row seemed newer.

The script itself was hard to recognize, but one could intuitively grasp the meaning behind the inscribed words.

The crossed-out text above read: "Through me you enter the city of woe, through me you enter eternal pain, through me among the people lost for aye."

The new text below read: "Atlantic Region Human Soul Passage. Queue up and keep right."

"Here we are, the gates of Hell."

Ferry stepped forward, waving his staff, and the door opened to either side.

As the door opened, what appeared before everyone was a wide river.

The Styx. They had arrived.
