Game World's Awakening-Chapter 208: Talking to a god
Torrential rain flooded the city of Loen two days ago, but that didn’t stop people from working. Perhaps what affected the city most during those days was the war between the Clarks and an unknown force that ultimately led to the Clarks’ demise.
The few Clarks who remained were trying to reorganize and find the traitor, but they were subjected to brutal repression from all sides. From brute force, justice, politics...
Many people were involved in this, including the Secretary of the Government of Loen City, who was found guilty of massive corruption and murder, colluding with the Clarks and other clans.
The situation was alarming and worrying. In addition to the news of the deaths of several of the most powerful young people the city could have had, news also arrived that Prince Christian had been participating in the last tournament and had even had his hand cut off.
All this cast a veil of mystique over the city, making people move more carefully, especially those who worked near these clans or guilds.
In the darkness of the night on the second day after the events in Clark, a figure moved quickly through the torrential rain, past the few cars driving on the flooded roads and streets.
He wore a black hood with several rags covering him completely, making him look like a beggar. But his footsteps were firm, indicating he knew how to navigate the city.
He quickly crossed the city’s suburbs and arrived in an area with no buildings; there were small houses and half-finished structures.
After checking the numbers engraved in his mind, he entered one of those half-finished buildings and climbed the stairs.
There was no one here, but he walked as if there were.
In seconds, he reached the top floor, which was neatly arranged and had only one main room.
Knock-
Knock-
The door opened by itself when he touched it, and he entered the room.
A man was waiting for him, sitting in a wooden chair, leaning back slightly to relieve his boredom. This man’s face was striking; on the streets, he would surely attract a lot of attention, as his long hair gave him a strangely masculine touch.
The two stared at each other for a brief moment.
"You’re just in time, little Elliot," he said with a gentle smile.
Elliot sighed and took off his hood. "I thought I was late," he replied.
The man in front of him was the god he had seen a few days ago, right after winning that tournament.
His body was still full of mysteries, even more so when he saw that the chair he was sitting on wasn’t actually touching the ground. It was leaning on its own energy.
Elliot frowned at this. "Don’t you like touching the ground, sir god?" he asked, curious.
"Oh." Mikael laughed. "I didn’t expect that to be your first question to me."
Elliot simply shrugged and moved forward to sit down without waiting for his instructions.
Mikael found this curious.
"You seem calmer now than you did the first time. That day, your veins were about to burst if I had stayed a little longer," Mikael joked.
"I’ve recently learned that I can’t show weakness, even when facing a god," Elliot replied.
Mikael laughed heartily. "But that wouldn’t be weakness, would it? It would be alarmism and alertness. They don’t seem to be the same thing."
"Believe it or not, they’re quite similar." Elliot shrugged. "After all, what good is it for me to be alert against someone who can stop time? Even my alertness against a guy much weaker than you was useless, and I almost died."
"So, in the end, you decided it was better to stay calm, right?" Mikael approved. "Good decision, worthy of a genius like you."
Then Mikael looked down at himself and smiled. "It’s not that I don’t like touching the ground, little Elliot. It’s just that if I touch it, this city will probably be destroyed."
"Probably?" Elliot raised his eyebrows. That didn’t sound like a god.
Mikael shrugged. "Or it would attract the attention of unnecessary beings. I prefer to keep things secret," he said, and finally, he didn’t forget to emphasize something: "For now."
Elliot then smiled. "I think it’s best to avoid prying into the secrets of a god," he said.
"That’s a good idea too," Mikael smiled. "By the way, what happened to your little girlfriend? It seems she was seriously injured."
His expression blurred when he heard him talk about her. "She’ll be fine," he assured him.
"It seems you’ve used that treasure." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"A treasure is not meant to be kept hidden. Its purpose was to save lives, so now it’s fulfilling that purpose," Elliot replied.
"It could have saved yours," Mikael mentioned.
"I don’t need my life saved, but she does."
"What if it doesn’t save her?" Mikael asked. "Wouldn’t it have been wasted? Maybe you were too late."
"There is no waste in trying to save the woman you love, Sir God. A treasure will never be more valuable than her life, even if it is a treasure of world-class abilities," Elliot assured him.
Mikael stared at him for more than 30 seconds, as if he wanted to scrutinize his thoughts.
Elliot returned his gaze. It didn’t feel good at all to have a god staring at you so intently and scrutinizing your thoughts. It seemed as if he could see every cell in your body.
He felt naked in front of him, and that made him feel pressured.
"It’s true," Mikael said, looking away. "A treasure is not worth more than the life of the woman you love." His words weighed heavily on his own heart in such a way that even Elliot could see it.
Mikael realized he had made a mistake and quickly changed the subject.
"By the way, stop calling me ’Sir God’. I’m not a god," he protested.
"Huh?" Elliot looked at him, shocked. "You’re not a god? You clearly have divinity! And a very powerful one at that..."
"We, the Divine, are not gods, little Elliot," Mikael replied, looking him in the eyes again. "We are divine. Beings with divinity. The population mistakenly calls us gods or minor gods, but we are really far from being one, you know? In this world, there is only one god, the God of the World, and even he couldn’t tell you how much of a deity he is. The rest of us are just Divine."
Elliot frowned... Divine beings, gods... There didn’t seem to be much difference. They were still immensely powerful, capable of destroying a continent on their own.
"If you say so, I guess I have to believe you. Although for me, at the moment, there’s not much difference. I’ll die if one of them attacks me," he replied.
Mikael was taken aback by that answer and began to laugh out loud. "I suppose you’re right. Although if you ever have the chance to stand before the God of the World, you’ll understand the difference between a true god and a divine being."
Elliot shrugged. By then, he would surely be a divine being or something like that. With enough time, he knew he could grow immensely.
"By the way..." Elliot spoke up. "You asked me to come here, I don’t think it was to chat about random things, right?"
Finally, Mikael became serious and said a few, but direct words.
"You’re going to die, Elliot. Soon." He assured him and looked at his wristwatch. "In 12 hours, to be exact."
