Game World's Awakening-Chapter 145: A surprise
Chapter 145: A surprise
"Oh?" The man was startled and jumped to his feet. "You’re Luke’s son?"
Elliot simply nodded. He actually found something curious. Why was he calling his father so familiarly?
"Hahaha, not bad, kid. Back then, you didn’t seem to have a chance of awakening, but now look at you, being as good as my Jenna." He suddenly started laughing in a good way, and all the bad face he had on the way here since his name was mentioned was erased.
He even walked over to Elliot and made him sit to the side.
"Manager, bring everything you can of the highest quality, ask my wife about it. Whatever the price, this day should be one of jubilation." He said, and then didn’t even give them a second glance.
He looked Elliot up and down and even checked him out.
"The last time I saw you, you were about 6 years old. Even though you were always quiet, haven’t you become quieter now? Don’t you say anything?" Despite his questioning, he was grinning from ear to ear.
But Elliot didn’t remember him.
He frowned.
"You know my father? And... Have we met before?" He asked.
"Hahaha, of course we have. Your father and I once survived an Ancient Ruin. Didn’t he tell you of our great exploits?" He acted pompously, beating his chest. "And yes, we did meet, but twice, nothing more. It’s normal that you don’t remember; they were fleeting encounters."
Elliot nodded.
"So when they say you survived a Ruin, it was true... They also say you learned the Nurotaur language there."
"Yes. Just like that." He nodded. "It was at that time that your father and I met, in fact. He was the brawn of the team, while I was the brains. It was before you were born."
"I see..." Elliot nodded.
He’d never heard it from his father, but it made sense. His father used to keep things from him about adventures, as he considered them a waste of time.
He didn’t know too much about his father’s adventures, but he had mentioned ruins to him a few times. Maybe that was why. They reminded him of his adventuring days.
Elliot then looked up and looked at Jenna and Jenna’s mother.
They were both staring at them, quizzical. They were both throwing dazed glances more at Mr. White than at Elliot.
How had he changed so much? Wasn’t he supposed to be jealous just now and angry? He even looked like he wanted to wait for Elliot to arrive, to eat him alive.
But now he was there, talking quietly to him, as if nothing was happening.
But he even disregarded their sights. As long as the food hadn’t arrived, he would keep talking to Elliot.
He looked very much like his old friend, who had accompanied him on various adventures when he was young. Even though he was not powerful, with that good friend, he could feel powerful and valuable because they both depended on each other for different things.
They made a perfect little team.
So he and Elliot talked for quite a while, leaving the two women in the room in the background. After a certain point, they also went into their own worlds.
When the two small groups met again, it was because the food had arrived.
And no sooner had they started eating than the man, Jake White, spoke up.
"Rebecca, Jenna, how about we set the wedding date for after the Leveled Leagues?" He said, suddenly.
Everyone was stunned. Elliot, Jenna, Jake’s wife Rebecca...
Everyone.
Rebecca looked at him in shock.
"What the hell are you talking about now, while we’re eating?" she asked.
"Hm? Obvious, I’m talking about Jenna and Elliot’s wedding."
"Ah?"
Even Elliot, who had been talking to him for a while, looked at him, stunned. Where had this come from?
At no point had they ever talked about it.
Although...
If he thought about it for a moment, wouldn’t it be great?
Jenna went like a tomato and jumped to her feet. "Dad!"
But even she didn’t want to object. After that shout, nothing came out of her mouth, because she really wasn’t against it.
That made her even more stunned.
Jake smiled, "Well, we’d better finish eating, and then we’ll talk about it." He suggested that after taking a bite of a local thing they had served him, he see that it was good. His hunger was suddenly uncovered.
But he still kept his eyes peeled for Elliot. "Try this, Elliot. It tastes great, what is it? It’s something local, since I’ve never tasted it before."
Although Elliot was stunned, he smiled.
Wasn’t that what he wanted, to get along with Jenna’s father and mother?
It would be foolish not to take advantage of this good friendship, so he once again started telling her what the dish was and so on.
They all began to eat. Jenna and Rebecca also joined in the conversation, and the four of them ate as a family, oddly close.
After eating there, they moved around the city, visiting different tourist sites. Now that Elliot was at Master Rank, he didn’t need to go out with escorts. He always kept his mind active, looking around in case of an ambush.
He even monitored his stats to see if he needed to raise them. But with Jake around, not many people wanted to get close.
Although he wasn’t particularly strong, he was still stronger than the leaders of this city. In fact, his stat points were surely above 120, which put him already at Lord Rank (Professional Player).
He was powerful for this small city.
After visiting many tourist sites during the day, they looked exhausted at the end of the day as they ate dinner at a Café-Restaurant.
"Jenna, when are you coming back to Agora? Your sister texted us recently, she seemed to be congratulating you on your recent victory." Rebecca spoke.
Jenna smiled, "I got the message from big sister. Right now, I don’t know when I’ll be back... Maybe during the Leveled Leagues. We’re trying to participate, I’m already confirmed."
"Good, " she replied. "What about you, Elliot? Are you ready to participate? I heard that this time, the generation of every Guild in the region has been strengthened by outsiders. You must be careful; I heard there are several from Tanafler and the Capital."
Elliot smiled, "I’m confident I’ll do well. Jenna and I have improved quite a bit in our team performance; the team in general seems to be improving quite a bit. I don’t know if our past teammates will participate as well, though."
"Well, as long as you both put in the effort, you’ll surely do well."
"Thank you, Ms. Rebecca."
"Haha, it’s okay to call me mother. You don’t need to add distant honorifics."
-
After eating and chatting for a while, they left the restaurant.
On their way out, they had to stop.
Some people stopped them. They wore white and red clothes, a bit shiny, with a peculiar slogan on the chest. It was the slogan of one of the best-known guilds in the coastal area—a powerful guild of Agora, the House of Fire.
Originally, Elliot and the others planned to ignore them, but they still insisted on getting in the way.
Jake White frowned and looked at them.
"Didn’t your master teach you that getting in the way of a stranger could cost you dearly?" He spoke.
"Haha." They laughed. "Mr. Jake, you are not a stranger. We apologize. We just wanted to have a little talk with Elliot Clark, " the older of them said, looking at Elliot.
"Boy, we’re waiting for you in the Leveled Leagues. Someone is putting a good price on your head, and it comes out just when your dear leader announces you as a contestant. So, we hope you don’t die before your time. It would be a shame if we couldn’t collect that money." He said, and then tossed him the scroll that was spreading around among high-ranking people.
Then he turned to leave, but he stopped before taking five steps.
"Right." He said, as if he had remembered something, and continued. "We’ve left you a little present in your apartment. I hope it’s to your liking. Compliments of our house."
After that, they left.
Elliot frowned and looked at the parchment in his hand.
’100 million.’ He smiled a little. ’Good. I thought it was all getting dull, but things are starting again.’
Jake frowned at the sight of it. "Want me to look into who did it, Elliot?"
"No." He replied. "It’s not necessary. I already know who did it. Before that, can you take me to the apartment? I want to know what they left there and how they were able to get in."
Jake stared at him for a few seconds before nodding.
"The House of Fire is difficult to deal with. They have amazing political power, but also great Awakened Ones. You must be careful when dealing with them." He spoke.
"All right."
After that, they got into the car and drove to the apartment.
As soon as they entered, Elliot frowned.
’They used the delivery service, huh?’ He thought as he looked at a box on the desk.
It was a pity, as that would make it difficult to know if there was a spy, let alone find him.
But he didn’t care. He walked over to the desk, leaving Jenna and her parents behind, just in case, and opened the package.
There was a smaller box inside.
’Very small. What is it?’ He frowned and tore the box open.
Then a letter, completely sealed, came into view. The seal belonged to the House of Fire.
But that was nothing surprising.
There was something that made Elliot shudder.
A small ribbon in the shape of a bow. His mind for a moment whirred, and he suddenly bolted out of the house.
"Elliot!" Jenna was startled by this, so she ran after him. Further behind were her parents.
What the hell was going on?
