In the delivery room.

Caesar carefully took the two bloody eggs from beneath Sang Luo. He had a large basin of warm water and towels already prepared. He wiped away the blood and remnants of the afterbirth, wrapped the eggs in swaddling clothes, and placed them in a nearby incubator.

Once he had done all that, he immediately turned to check on Sang Luo.

Her face was pale, her eyes tightly shut, as if she had fallen into a deep sleep from which she would never wake.

The ache in Caesar’s heart far outweighed the joy of his newborn children. He held her in his arms, their foreheads touching.

After being unconscious for half an hour, Sang Luo slowly woke up. Her face was wet, and a bitter, salty taste reached her lips. She didn’t know if they were her own tears from the pain, or Caesar’s.

"Ugh."

The moment she stirred, Caesar noticed. He looked over, his gaze gentle and full of heartache. "How are you feeling? Are you in any pain?"

Sang Luo gently shook her head. The delivery had actually gone more smoothly than expected. Aside from her exhausted body and a dull ache in her abdomen, she felt no other discomfort.

She was considered quite lucky. Giving birth to eggs was easier. A live birth was what was truly agonizing.

"Bring the children over, let me see them."

Caesar quickly brought the children to her.

Sang Luo looked at the two clean eggs and couldn’t help but give a wry smile. ’Even though I knew I was going to lay two eggs, seeing them now... it still feels surreal.’
