Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 373 - 312: Can She Still Trust Him?
The Saint Ancestor’s emotionless voice sounded. "Birthing a Divine Angel is difficult and requires the mother’s body as a sacrifice. On the day of delivery, we save the child, not the mother."
The Witch Doctor Chief’s voice was filled with apprehension. "So it’s just like what happened back then..."
Everyone in the Holy Hall knew that the Holy Monarch’s birth mother had died from complications during childbirth.
That giving birth to a Divine Angel required the sacrifice of the mother was an almost indisputable fact.
The Archbishop hesitated. "But the Holy Monarch... he would surely never agree to this..."
The Saint Ancestor laughed cruelly. "You think the Holy Monarch is unaware? He knows better than anyone how his Beast Mother left this world. To obtain an heir, he has long been prepared to sacrifice this female from an outside race."
’This was Minos’s will?!’
Listening to their words, Sang Luo could barely breathe. The complexity of her emotions was indescribable.
’Minos knew full well the consequences of gestating a Divine Angel. She would be drained of her very last drop of blood by this child. That was why her health had been deteriorating day by day. The abdominal pain was her body’s way of rejecting the child, trying to make it disappear—a final warning.’
’Minos knew everything from the very start, yet he had been hiding it from her all this time.’
Sang Luo closed her eyes and took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. ’Minos even gave me his Soul Mark. If I really die, it won’t do him any good... No, I almost forgot! His power over time can reverse things; he can take back the Soul Mark completely!’
’No wonder he gave me the Soul Mark so easily that first time...’
Sang Luo didn’t want to doubt Minos, but the suspicion chilled her to the bone. The betrayal of the one who sleeps by your side is the most heartbreaking of all.
Her mind in a daze, she wanted to leave the Holy Palace to think things through, but then she discovered—she couldn’t get out!
It was happening all over again, just like before.
She was imprisoned in the Holy Palace, unable to go outside.
The Holy Seal Minos had given her had stopped working.
Immense exhaustion and disappointment washed over her. The sharp pains in her abdomen grew more intense, and her body slid weakly down the wall.
As she slipped into a haze, she heard frantic footsteps and a man’s heartbroken cry. "Luoluo!"
When Minos returned to his chambers and didn’t see her, he found her in a corner by the outer wall. She was curled up, her face so pale it terrified him. He rushed forward and swept her into his arms, his voice urgent. "Luoluo, why didn’t you stay in the palace? What are you doing out here?"
Sang Luo looked up, staring at him in a daze, unsure if she should continue to trust the man before her. Her soft fingers tightened on his sleeve as she whispered, "I want to go out for a walk."
Minos refused. "I spoke with the witch doctor. You’re not well. You need to rest in the palace for now. Don’t go anywhere."
Sang Luo pressed her lips together and asked him a question. "Minos, how did your Beast Mother die?"
Minos froze, then said quietly, "When she was giving birth to me... there was an accident. She died from complications."
Sang Luo’s smile was tragic. "You’ve never mentioned your Beast Mother to me. You feel no grief for her, no sense of loss. To you, your dead Beast Mother was just a tool to bring you into this world. Her life or death meant nothing to you. You just don’t care at all..."
"Luoluo?" Minos’s brow furrowed deeply. "It’s not what you think."
Sang Luo lowered her head, avoiding his gaze. Her voice was faint. "It’s the same for me and the child in my womb, isn’t it? You know better than anyone how dangerous it is for me to have this child, yet you’ve never said a word to me about it."
Minos pulled her into a tight embrace, his arms trembling slightly. "Luoluo, I won’t let anything happen to you."
His urgency didn’t seem feigned.
Sang Luo decided to trust him one more time.
"The witch doctor said I might miscarry."
"You won’t. The baby’s development is perfectly normal."
"And what about me? Giving birth to a Divine Angel requires sacrificing the mother." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"You will be fine, too. You and the child will both be safe. While it’s true that gestating a Divine Angel consumes immense power and there’s a chance of it backfiring on the mother, if that day ever comes, I would sacrifice myself before I ever let anything happen to you."
Sang Luo pressed her lips together. "But I heard the people in the Holy Hall say..."
She told him what she had overheard, especially the Saint Ancestor’s words and the matter of the Poisonous Gu in her medicine.
Minos’s expression grew colder and colder, his eyes flashing with a bone-chilling frost.
"He wants to harm you? He’ll have to ask me for permission first!" Minos’s voice lost its usual gentle calm, becoming exceptionally dark and low.
Sang Luo had never seen Minos like this before and froze, momentarily stunned.
His chest rose and fell sharply. As if afraid he’d scared her, he quickly suppressed the murderous intent in his eyes. He pressed his forehead to hers, their breaths mingling, and his voice became incredibly soft. "Luoluo, no matter what happens, I’m your partner. You should trust me above all others. You can safely entrust yourself and our child to me."
"...I’m sorry. I was just so scared."
"It’s my failure as your Beast Husband that made you feel afraid by my side." Minos lowered his head and kissed the tip of her nose, his voice growing husky. "You should leave the Holy Hall for a while. I have some matters to resolve."
"I can’t leave. The Holy Seal you gave me has stopped working."
Minos’s expression darkened further.
’I respected him as the founder of the modern Holy Hall, showing him deference and respect.’
’Does he really think the Holy Hall is still his to command?!’
"I’ll take you out of here myself."
...
Minos hadn’t lied to Sang Luo. He personally escorted her from the Holy Hall and back to the East Continent. Before she departed, he gave her a great deal of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures. Sang Luo glanced over them; there was easily enough to last her for a year or more.
The last wisp of suspicion in Sang Luo’s heart finally dissipated.
’I wasn’t wrong about him.’
"You... be careful when you go back. The Saint Ancestor might not just be targeting me. You could be his real target!" Sang Luo tugged on his sleeve and kissed his cheek.
Minos’s mood brightened slightly. He pulled her into a deep kiss.
After watching him leave, Sang Luo returned to the Phoenix Palace.
Little Zhenzhen had been staying at the palace for the past few days. Tired from playing outside, she had just run back into the hall when she saw her mother had returned. She almost cried out, "Ma—"
"Shh." Sang Luo pressed a finger to her lips and winked at her.
Little Zhenzhen immediately fell silent and tiptoed into the hall.
Fei Yuan was napping, slumped over a desk. A thick stack of documents lay scattered beside his hand, and two fluffy little furballs were sleeping with their heads nestled together nearby.
Sang Luo walked over, picked up a coat from the back of the chair, and gently draped it over Fei Yuan before placing a soft kiss in his hair.
Fei Yuan had never mentioned it, but Sang Luo knew. As the Beast Emperor of the Central region, he was already incredibly busy, yet he still personally attended to every little detail of the two cubs’ care. It must be exhausting for him.
’The dignified Beast Emperor, passed out right at his desk. And sleeping so soundly, at that.’
After she was done, Sang Luo turned and walked toward the hall’s entrance. She bent down, scooped up Little Zhenzhen, and ruffled her little head as they stepped outside. "Where’s your father?"
"Dad’s at the training grounds, drilling the soldiers!"
"No wonder he left you in your Uncle Fei Yuan’s care. Come on, let’s go to the training grounds and see your dad."
