Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 225 - 169: A Midnight Invitation
Quan Jin said, "I just want a foolproof plan."
Mi Xing stared at him intently, then suddenly broke into a grin. "Let’s just say I was being presumptuous this time. Since you have no intention of cooperating, I won’t disturb you any further."
He then lowered his voice. "However, this prey is as good as mine. Since you’re not looking for a partner, don’t blame me for taking matters into my own hands!"
Mi Xing’s figure vanished into the darkness.
Elma and Gong Zhou exchanged a hesitant glance. "In that case, Ni Xia, should we strike first...?"
"Hold your positions for now. Don’t alert the enemy," Quan Jin said coldly, his brow furrowed. "Also, keep a close eye on that brute, Mi Xing. I don’t want an idiot like him interfering and ruining my plan."
"Yes."
The two of them then departed.
Quan Jin’s spiritual power enveloped the entire Imperial City. He paused, then extended a sliver of it toward a side hall in the Imperial Palace.
’She... She’s really in the same room as the Phoenix Emperor!’ 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Any Beastman who received an invitation could bring a family member to the banquet. And "family member," nine times out of ten, meant a mate. ’Could it be that they’ve already...?’ He recalled seeing them sitting intimately on the elegant couch during the day. Even though he had no memories of the past, he was going mad with a jealousy so gut-wrenching it made him want to kill someone.
A strange Black Qi began to emanate from Quan Jin’s body.
"Your Majesty."
The Black Qi slowly receded. Quan Jin’s voice was low and cold. "Come in."
A Servant entered and bowed respectfully. "The sobering soup you asked me to deliver—the noble female has drunk it and is preparing for bed."
"Replace all the wine at tomorrow’s banquet with tea."
"Ah? But..." The Servant looked at the man in astonishment, thinking he must have misheard. Perhaps the Beast Emperor also realized this was improper, for he paused before adding, "Just replace everything at her table with tea. As for the Purple Crystal Fruit, Red Jade Pomegranate, and Nine-Petaled Jade Lotus she likes... bring out as much as we have in the treasury."
"Yes, Your Majesty. I’ll see to it at once."
Just as the Servant was bowing to leave, Quan Jin stopped him again. "I told you to arrange a separate room for her tomorrow night. Has that been communicated?"
"The Phoenix Emperor said not to trouble yourself. He asked me for an extra quilt."
"..."
Quan Jin’s expression soured. He thought for a moment, then took up a brush and wrote a few lines on a piece of paper. He sealed it into a letter. "Give this to her."
The Servant accepted the letter and headed to the side hall at the other end of the Imperial Palace.
There was a knock on the door. It was Fei Yuan who opened it.
He wore a simple red brocade robe, open slightly at the chest to reveal a stretch of pale, jade-like skin and his collarbones. Without his phoenix crown, his black hair fell naturally to his waist. Compared to his noble and dignified beauty from the daytime, he now had a lazy, bewitching allure.
The Servant was too frightened to look up at him, much less glance inside the room, terrified he might see something he wasn’t supposed to.
Bowing his head respectfully, he held out the envelope. "This is a letter from His Majesty for the noble female. I do not know if she has retired for the night. I must trouble the Phoenix Emperor to deliver this to her."
"Oh? The Southern Beast Emperor himself tasked you with giving this to her?"
Fei Yuan took the letter, pinching it between two slender, pale fingers. Just as he was wondering what to do with it, a soft, slightly languid female voice came from behind him. "I’m not asleep. You can give it directly to me."
Fei Yuan turned and handed her the envelope.
Sang Luo accepted the letter and spoke gently to the Servant. "You may go. Tell him I’ve received it."
"Yes."
The Servant bowed and withdrew.
Fei Yuan glanced at the envelope in her hand. "In that letter... he’s not asking you for a secret rendezvous in the middle of the night to patch things up, is he?"
A vein throbbed in Sang Luo’s temple. "That’s not possible."
Seeing how curious Fei Yuan was about the letter’s contents, Sang Luo shot him a warning glance before taking it into the inner room, hidden from view by a folding screen.
Sang Luo lay on the bed, tossing and turning. She kept fidgeting with the letter, unable to bring herself to open it. She even considered whether she should just burn it.
After agonizing for an hour, she finally opened it.
On the Xuan paper were two elegant, neat lines of text:
[I miss you. Let’s meet at Qingxin Hall in the Imperial Palace tonight. I’ll be waiting.]
As if afraid she wouldn’t come,
another line was added at the very bottom in small script.
[Don’t you want to see your daughter?]
Sang Luo felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. ’Daughter! The second baby... could it be she was born safely...?’ Her fingers trembled uncontrollably. She never wanted to see Caesar again, but she desperately wanted to see the eldest daughter she had never met.
Sang Luo teleported to Qingxin Hall.
There were no guards or servants outside the hall.
The night was dark, and the hall’s lamps were all extinguished. It seemed whoever was inside had long since gone to bed.
Sang Luo took a deep breath. With an unreadable mix of emotions, she walked up the steps and knocked on the tightly shut door.
No one answered. There wasn’t a single sound from within the hall.
She raised her hand to knock again, but a man suddenly seized her from behind, wrapping his arms tightly around her. A large, slender, pale hand gripped her chin, and he bent his head, his lips crashing down on hers in a hot, fierce kiss.
Sang Luo was trapped in his embrace.
Her eyes flew wide with shock and anger, a film of moisture welling up in them. She tried to push him away, but his strength was terrifying. He held her waist and hands as if in an iron vise. All she could manage was a faint whimper, her face flushing a deep, hot crimson from either shame or fury.
’Bastard!’
Her mind went blank with rage, her heart pounding like a drum. Suddenly, she bit down hard on the tip of his tongue.
The rich taste of blood filled her mouth, but Caesar didn’t let go. He panted, tangling his tongue with hers.
After what felt like an eternity, just as her lips were growing numb from the kiss, he finally released her. His low, restrained voice seethed with a towering rage.
"It’s been this long, and you haven’t thought of me once? You just gave birth, and you’re already in such a hurry to hook up with the Central Beast Emperor. Are you planning on bearing his child, too?"
Sang Luo’s lips throbbed, fiery and numb; she didn’t need a mirror to know how swollen they were. She stared at the handsome, sullen man before her and let out a sarcastic laugh. "In your eyes, I’m just a stranger. Why do you care so much about me? What does it have to do with you how many Male Beasts I find or how many children I bear?"
"A stranger?" His aura grew even colder, his eyes sweeping over her body. "I’ve found a way to get my memories back," he said suddenly.
Caesar grabbed Sang Luo’s hand and teleported inside the hall. He threw her onto the bed, his large hand effortlessly tearing the clothes from her upper body. His hot lips landed on her pristine, jade-like collarbone and trailed downward.
His voice was low and hoarse with desire. "Stay with me tonight, and you’ll see the man I used to be."
"...You lured me here using our child’s name just to do this?"
Sang Luo’s rage hit its peak. SLAP! Her hand struck his face. "I’d rather you never remember!"
Caesar didn’t dodge, taking the full force of the slap. He turned his head slightly, a red mark stark against his handsome, pale face. When he looked back at the bed, she was already gone.
His purple eyes churned with emotion, a titanic storm brewing within them.
...
Sang Luo teleported out of the hall, her expression terrible. In that moment, she truly let go of the past.
A Little Black Snake slithered out of the grass, the tip of its slender tail wrapped around a Qiankun Bag, which held all of its worldly possessions.
"Mother, I’ve decided. I’m coming with you."
"Let’s go, my son. We don’t need your father!" Sang Luo scooped up the Little Snake and vanished on the spot.
