Chapter 128: Chapter 76: First Arrival in the North Continent

The harsh environment of the Beilu Icefield was beyond imagination.

Gloomy black clouds hung oppressively low. Although it was daytime, the light was incredibly dim, and the air seemed shrouded in a grayish-blue mist. A blizzard howled like a wailing ghost, its fury mixed with fist-sized hailstones that savagely ravaged the pitiful land below.

The most terrifying part was the temperature, dozens of degrees below zero! Not a single blade of grass grew; it was a cold that seemed capable of freezing all creation solid.

Sang Luo trudged onward against the raging blizzard, her steps uneven and labored.

She had specifically researched the conditions on the North Continent before coming. She wore several layers of thick, compressed fleece, a cloak, and a hat, bundling herself up completely. Even so, she had clearly underestimated just how harsh the environment was.

Only a dozen or so minutes had passed, yet she was already covered in a thick layer of snow.

From a distance, she looked almost like a snowman.

Sang Luo quickly shook her head, using her Fire Spiritual Power to clear the snow and melted ice from her body. She looked up at the churning black clouds in the sky and let out a long sigh.

The North Continent was in a state of perpetual winter. Most of the Beastmen who could live long-term in such a frigid place belonged to the Beast Clans native to the icefield. In their beast forms, their fur was long and dense, allowing them to withstand the severe cold.

’If I had been unlucky enough to be dropped on the North Continent when I transmigrated, I probably wouldn’t have lasted more than a few minutes before freezing to death.’

By constantly nourishing her body with Fire Spiritual Power to resist the bone-chilling cold, she was able to just barely manage.

The frozen landscape stretched endlessly for thousands of miles. Tall, majestic silver birch trees stood towering, piercing the clouds.

Sang Luo stopped inside a grove of trees and felt the texture of the wood. ’I’m in the right place.’

She found a random tree stump to sit on and took out some dried meat from her storage space to eat.

A few dark figures of varying heights appeared in her field of view. As they got closer, she saw that they were a group of dust-covered Beastmen.

The clothes they wore were much cruder than those of the Beastmen on the Western Continent. Most wore simple clothes of coarse cloth and hemp, while others wore animal hides with the fur still on, giving them an extremely primitive and rugged appearance.

This group of Beastmen was not in good shape. They looked as if they’d just survived a fierce battle—their expressions were listless, they were all injured to some degree, and they looked utterly wretched.

The group of Beastmen up ahead also saw her.

The tall, burly Tiger Beast at the head of the group beckoned to her.

"Hey, kid over there! Come here!"

Sang Luo looked left and right before confirming they were calling to her.

’This group looks like they just finished a fight, but they don’t seem like vicious criminals.’ She put the dried meat back into her storage space and walked over. "Is there something I can help you with?"

"We need a favor. Come with us for a bit. There’s a generous reward when it’s done."

Before Sang Luo could speak, the rather tall and thin Beastman beside the Tiger Beast spoke up first. "Boss, this kid looks a little scrawny. Are you sure you want him to join our team?"

They had just gone through a fierce battle and lost several of their brothers. They were short at least one person to form a full Bounty Team and accept a mission.

The North Continent was vast and sparsely populated. On their journey so far, they had only encountered this one lone Beastman. They couldn’t find anyone else to fill in for now, so they had no choice but to make do.

’But if he’s too useless, he’ll really drag us down.’

The Tiger Beast then asked Sang Luo, "What Rank are you?"

The other Beastmen subconsciously glanced at her arm, but unfortunately, it was covered by her robe and bracers, so they couldn’t see anything. Sang Luo answered readily, "Sixth Rank."

Everyone’s faces lit up with joy. The tall, thin Monkey Beastman also chuckled and said, "Who would’ve thought? You’re so small and scrawny, you don’t look like much, but you’re actually a Sixth Rank Beastman! Boss, our luck is pretty good!"

The Tiger Beast also nodded in satisfaction. "What’s your talent?"

’I had wanted to say Fire, but my Ghostly True Fire is a bit different from other Fire Talents and could easily expose me.’ She changed her answer. "Ice Talent."

Everyone was even more satisfied. In this world of ice and snow, an Ice Talent could be used to its greatest advantage.

The Tiger Beast clapped her on the shoulder. He took out a bag of Crystal Stones and handed it to her. "Little brother, come along with us. You’ll get your reward after it’s done. This is a deposit. Don’t go running off halfway through."

"Alright, brother." Sang Luo accepted the Crystal Stones and fell in with the group.

’I’ve just arrived in the North Continent and know nothing about it. This is a good opportunity to learn about the situation from them.’

And so, Sang Luo was roped into the team just to make up the numbers for their mission.

This group was planning to hunt a High Rank, Ice Element Star Beast.

Sang Luo followed them for a long time, losing track of where they were going.

Up ahead, someone suddenly stopped.

"Stay on alert."

Sang Luo was still scanning the area for any potential prey when the ground beneath her feet began to tremble violently. An Ice Giant Worm, over ten meters long, erupted from the snow—right where she was standing!
