Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 124 - 72: Luring the Snake Out of Its Hole
"Luoluo, even if I die, I won’t let anything happen to you or our child!" Duotu pulled her hand, pressing it against his handsome, sculpted face, his eyes filled with determination and guilt.
Half an hour later, Duotu walked out of the hall. The witch doctor approached him and said, "The instability is caused by the fetus’s overly powerful bloodline. It will not only cause unforeseeable harm to the mother’s body, but it could even damage her soul. The only solution is to obtain a supreme-grade Soul Nourishing Bone."
"Where can I get one?" he asked in a low voice, his brow furrowed.
"Your Majesty, a Soul Nourishing Bone can only be found on a King Rank Star Beast of the Soul system. Such a Star Beast King is incredibly rare. Even if one is found, hunting it is extremely difficult!"
Helu, who happened to be walking by, overheard this and recalled something. "Your Majesty, a few days ago, a Red Ice Soul Beast appeared in the Death Spirit Swamp in the Central region."
"That Star Beast has devoured many Beastmen, and the nearby tribes and cities have all suffered varying degrees of destruction. We’ve sent out troops multiple times but failed to capture it. With over ten thousand casualties, we’ve only managed to barely contain it within the Death Spirit Swamp."
Duotu nodded. "I’m leaving matters in the Royal Palace to you and Meno Hexes. I’ll be gone for a few days."
Helu realized what Duotu intended to do and tried to stop him. "Your Majesty! That Star Beast is at the Peak of King Rank and is exceptionally dangerous. It would be unwise for you to go yourself."
"There’s no need to argue. My mind is made up. Prepare my things. I’m leaving immediately."
...
Sang Luo wasn’t asleep. She heard the exchange outside her door but wasn’t particularly worried. ’Duotu is a pragmatist; he wouldn’t do something he wasn’t sure he could pull off.’
But in the days that followed, there was no word from him at all. She had no idea if he was dead or alive.
As the days went by, the little cub in her womb was nearly fully formed, and it was getting restless. Every so often, a sharp pain would make her gasp.
Sang Luo sighed, rubbing her belly. "You need to settle down. Wait until your Beast Father gets back to cause trouble. Otherwise, you’re going to wear your mother out completely, and then you won’t be able to come out at all..."
After her "threat," her belly actually did settle down a bit, and she was finally able to get some proper sleep.
She fell into a deep sleep that lasted for several days.
Sang Luo was woken by the sounds of a hushed commotion outside. Before she could even finish dressing to go out, Helu rushed in, pushed the door open, and handed her a Jade Brocade Box.
She opened it to find a piece of white bone, as translucent as Ice and wreathed in an exceptionally dense Cold Mist Spiritual Energy. A single glance told her it was a peerless treasure.
Sang Luo asked him, "Why are you the one here? Where is His Majesty?"
Helu struggled to find the words. "Your Majesty was gravely injured while hunting a Star Beast King. He’s unconscious and has been taken to the Imperial Hospital... Queen, please don’t worry. His Majesty will surely pull through! You should just focus on resting well!"
In truth, the situation was far more perilous than he let on. The Red Ice Soul Beast King’s power had been beyond their estimations. Just as His Majesty was about to slay it, the Star Beast King had suddenly mutated. Its power had skyrocketed, and its fangs had pierced the king’s chest.
At the last possible moment, Duotu struck the Star Beast King’s vital point and successfully extracted the Soul Bone. But in doing so, he was mortally wounded. Despite emergency treatment, he was not out of danger. He remained unconscious, and it was feared that his chances of survival were slim.
Seeing the worry on Helu’s face, Sang Luo understood the gravity of the situation and didn’t press for more details. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"You’re tired too. Go get some rest."
After dismissing the servants, Sang Luo began to refine the Soul Bone, working without sleep or rest. Once the Soul Bone had completely integrated into her own body, the movements in her womb ceased entirely.
When she got out of bed, her body felt light, the heavy, dragging sensation of her belly almost gone. It was as if she weren’t even pregnant.
Amman heard the noise and came in. "Noble female, are you feeling any discomfort?"
"I’m fine. What about His Majesty? Has he not woken up yet?"
’If Duotu had woken up, he would have come to Taoyuan Village right away. His condition must still be poor.’
Amman shook her head. "His Majesty hasn’t woken up yet, but I heard from the Beastmen at the Imperial Hospital that his condition has stabilized for now. He’s been moved back to his chambers to recuperate. Are you going to visit His Majesty?"
Sang Luo knew that Helu and the others had sealed off the news from the public, but some secrets can’t be kept. ’The ministers and nobles have countless spies in the Royal Palace. Someone must have learned of Duotu’s grave injuries and coma by now. Who knows what they’re plotting in the shadows.’
The tranquility in the Beast King Palace tonight was like the calm before the storm.
A bloodbath could begin at any moment.
"Go to the Flower Sea Forest and pick some fresh flowers. I’m going to see him."
Sang Luo brought a bouquet of flowers to the Beast King’s bedchambers.
The bedchambers were heavily guarded, with numerous elite Hidden Guards watching from the shadows.
Sang Luo could see them all clearly with her spiritual power.
Seeing her approach, the guards at the door bowed respectfully and let her pass without a word.
She walked into the bedchambers, placed the bouquet on a table, and sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the unconscious man lying there.
He was normally so meticulous about his appearance, always striving for perfection. This was the first time she had ever seen him look so disheveled and pitiful. His soft, fluffy golden hair was matted to his face, which was covered in bruises. He had lost weight, his features now gaunt, and his lips were deathly pale. He was the very picture of broken vulnerability.
Looking at his face alone, it was enough to make one’s heart ache with pity.
"You really did risk it all for our child." Sang Luo reached out to touch his face, a thousand thoughts running through her mind as she pulled back the covers.
His upper body was bare, his torso wrapped in layers upon layers of gauze. There was hardly a patch of uninjured skin.
She had just touched one of his wounds.
"HISS!" The man gasped in pain, pleading in a weak voice, "Luoluo, be gentle."
"You’re awake?" Sang Luo raised an eyebrow.
"...I just woke up a little while ago. I heard you were coming, so I thought I’d stay in bed a bit longer." Duotu turned his head to look at the flowers by the bed, his expression softening with delight. "They’re beautiful. Luoluo, did you pick them just for me?"
"You’re thinking too much. I had Amman pick them from the Flower Sea Forest." Sang Luo looked at him. "Let me change your bandages."
It was rare for her to show him such concern. Duotu quickly threw off the covers. Before Sang Luo could stop him, she was faced with a perfectly sculpted, flawless male physique. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw he was at least still wearing a pair of white breeches. ’If he weren’t injured, I’d pinch his thigh so hard!’
’Shameless exhibitionist.’
Duotu turned over, presenting his back to her.
The man had broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The lines of his back were sleek, and his abdominal muscles were tight and firm, exuding a vibrant, sexy power. His pale skin only enhanced his air of noble elegance.
Sang Luo carefully unwrapped the old bandages. Her heart clenched when she saw the wounds on his back.
Duotu had been pampered his entire life. His back had been as smooth as jade, his physique as perfect as a statue from Ancient Greece. But now, his chest and back were covered in wounds of all sizes. There was even a massive, terrifying gash from a fang that ran through his chest, missing his heart by a mere fraction of an inch.
If that beast’s fang had truly pierced his heart, he would have been beyond saving.
It was a stroke of incredible luck amid the tragedy.
Still, this deep wound would likely leave a scar he would carry for the rest of his life.
Sang Luo cleaned his wounds, applied an ointment, and had just finished wrapping them in fresh bandages.
Just then, someone at the door announced that the noble female Martha Brent had arrived.
Duotu looked at her. "Luoluo, you’re still pregnant. You should go back and rest."
"You want her to take care of you?" Sang Luo was clearly displeased. "It’s rare for me to be this considerate. You won’t get another chance."
Duotu pulled her hand to his lips for a kiss, his eyes full of affection. "Go back and rest. You don’t need to worry about anything else."
As Sang Luo was leaving, she ran into Martha Brent. The other woman seemed slightly surprised, but quickly bowed. "Greetings, Queen."
Sang Luo’s tone was flat. "It’s the middle of the night. What are you doing here?"
Martha smiled gracefully. "His Majesty specifically sent for me to attend to him personally."
