Full-Time Public Enemy-Chapter 592 - Four Hundred and Seventy-Three: Natural Awakening
Bai Hongyue was indeed a talented actress, but she always seemed to be just a step away from what was called a "star."
Still, she wasn't disappointed. In her forties, she could always get impressive roles with her superb acting skills, and she was quite content with that.
When the script for "The Warrior's Glory" first landed in front of her, she was resistant. The title alone reeked of flop potential! Then she heard that the lead actor was a star from the Behemoth Alliance and the leading lady was the new diva of the music scene. Definitely a flop.
But she held great respect for Director Yu Mozi. So, after his strong recommendation, she read the script. To her surprise, it was actually quite good!
She had an inherently optimistic nature and a warm heart, always willing to help others. After joining the production crew, she provided substantial assistance to the younger actors.
Today, with both leads absent, they wrapped up filming early, and Bai Hongyue drove home alone. This was the lifestyle of many competent actors like her: a life of abundance without too much concern for the trappings of "fame."
She had been married for ten years. Her husband was an outsider to the industry who loved her dearly, and together they had three adorable children.
But today, as soon as she reached her doorstep, she saw someone standing under the streetlamp in front of her house. The person was dressed in all black, their hat pulled down low, hiding their face.
Her alarm bells rang. There were plenty of instances within the industry where people were kidnapped for various reasons. She'd also heard that the male lead had offended quite a few rich second-generation kids.
As she passed the front door, she didn't slow down, deciding to circle around and check the situation.
However, the person gestured to her, then pointed toward her house's window.
Several burly men stood behind the window, gripping her three adorable children. Their large, hairy hands covered the children's mouths, tears brimming in their eyes.
Bai Hongyue felt as if her heart was being wrenched out of her chest!
Following the stranger's instructions, she obediently parked her car in the garage. The person in black followed. They produced a gun, as if by magic, and pointed it at her. The two of them then re-entered the house, one in front of the other. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Bai Hongyue's first thought was for her children. Although tearful, they weren't hurt, and she sighed in relief. She then searched for her husband. He worked in internet services and was tall and thin, not very sturdy. Unsurprisingly, she found him lying face down on the ground, his condition unknown.
She cried out and lunged towards him but was pushed back by several fully armed men in black. Then, a leader emerged from the bedroom. He was as burly as a grizzly bear, with a self-fastening bandage on his forehead, a swollen left cheek, and bloodstains at the corner of his eye.
"He's not dead," the leader growled irritably. "I didn't expect your husband to put up such a fight; I almost got taken down by a nobody."
Bai Hongyue glanced at her husband in astonishment, then back at the leader. Comparing their builds, she found it hard to believe that her slender husband could have inflicted such injuries on this bear of a man.
"Who are you? What do you want? Money?"
The bear-like man sneered cruelly, "We..."
But before he could finish his sentence, there was a faint noise, followed by shattering glass. A thin beam of energy accurately shot through the bear-like man's head, and he dropped dead without a groan.
The other men in black had no time to react. Almost simultaneously, more energy beams shot in, and they fell one by one.
Only one of them suddenly generated a pale blue electromagnetic shield around his body. The energy beam aimed at him hit the shield with a ZAP, erupting in a burst of fireworks! Both the shield and the beam dissipated simultaneously. The one who slipped through the net shrank his body, smashed through a door, and dashed outside. Then, a WHOOSH sounded from outside.
Bai Hongyue, paying no heed to the fear, rushed to her children, covering them with her body, "It's alright, it's alright, Mommy's here!"
A few people entered. Dora, holding an energy rifle, breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, we're not too late."
Bai Hongyue looked bewildered, "Who are you? What on earth is happening here?"
Dora apologized, "Sorry to involve you. Come with us, and we'll ensure your safety."
...
Chen Gu had almost no residual contamination. Once this was confirmed, he immediately dived into the investigation.
He quickly found the name "Fertos." However, when the action team raided the hotel where Fertos was staying, they found only corpses. Their heads had been blown apart, making memory retrieval impossible.
However, Chen Gu didn't give up. He soon locked onto the last significant member of the gang: Laluotov, known as "the Hyena," who had followed Kostia's family to a tourist destination.
The local Bureau of Mystic Security acted quickly. They effortlessly apprehended this ruffian and immediately began an urgent interrogation.
The results arrived soon after.
"Four days ago, a person named Fu Qianping approached Fertos. Unharmed, he passed through the gang's defensive fire barrage to meet Fertos face-to-face. After a secret conversation, Fertos decided to collaborate with Fu Qianping. The two then came to Capital Star together and convinced Kostia to cooperate with their plan.
"Fertos was a high-level fugitive wanted by the Confederation; he had been hiding everywhere. Yet, with Fu Qianping, he was able to pass smoothly through various security checks during their travel and even took a civilian flight to Capital Star."
