Chapter 18: Conditions

When Freya got to the kitchen, she found Xavier sitting by the kitchen island with what looked to be a smart phone in his hand. She was curious about the device, wondering if it had the same features as the smart phone in her world.

It would make adapting to it much easier, although she would be a little disappointed that technology hadn’t advanced to it being a chip in your brain or maybe even a hologram wrist device.

Of course, that was the sci-fi part of her going wild. She didn’t understand the limitations of technology here and how much was advanced due to special abilities rather than scientific breakthroughs. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Hell, for all she knew those monsters could be a result of a science experiment gone wrong. Which scared her a little when she thought about it. She shook her head, getting rid of the thoughts.

Now was not the time to let her mind wonder.

"Ah Freya..." Xavier called out to her as she walked over to the kitchen corner. "I got some porridge prepared for you."

Freya took a seat across from him as he slid a ceramic bowl over to her, making her recall yesterday’s events. And the fact that she broke one of his dishes in her panic.

"Thanks for the food..." Freya said, pausing for a second. "And sorry about breaking the bowl."

"You’re fine." Xavier set his phone looking device down. "Ethan already paid for all the damages he caused."

"Does he pay for emotional distress too?" Freya joked. "I think I need therapy after all this."

Xavier gave her a small smile. "Well, I can always send him the bill. He’d be required to pay by law or serve time."

"Seriously?!" Freya exclaimed, not realizing that Xavier would take her joke so earnestly.

Well, she probably would need some serious therapy after everything, but to think she could actually get Ethan locked up for not paying for it. And all because he was one of the many causes.

Wasn’t Xavier going to protect his brother or something? Or maybe the laws just worked differently here. They probably did considering how freely Xavier went around killing other beastmen.

Wanderers really, not that she knew what that meant, but they were still beastmen. Even if they were doing horrible things. In her world, they’d need to go to court and everything.

Unless it was in a war-torn place. Then things were different. But generally things went through the justice system on the odd occasion it did work properly. Things didn’t seem that way here.

"I’m being serious." Xavier nodded his head, dragging her away from her thoughts. "Do you require it?"

"Not right now... I think there are more important things to focus on here." Freya replied, dipping a silver spoon into her bowl of porridge. "Like setting some boundaries. I don’t think I can keep my promise if we don’t."

She’d been thinking it over while showering and with her mind not in panic mode, Freya realized right now she needed protection from the outside world. At least until she was able to adapt and firmly stand on her own two feet.

It was cruel of her to use Xavier as a shield, but it wasn’t like he was doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He needed her guide ability, whatever that was, and was willing to make a deal with her to use it.

Basically they had a mutually beneficial relationship going on. But one thing they were missing was proper boundaries. And Freya needed them to be clearly laid out before there were any more situations like yesterday.

So, she was going to be honest with Xavier, feeling it was the best path to take.

"What boundaries do you want in place?" Xavier narrowed his eyes.

"One, we don’t interfere in each other’s lives unless it directly or indirectly affects the other in a harmful manner." Freya stated. "Two, that psycho brother of yours stays away from me and three, we sleep in our own rooms and there will be no physical contact without permission. Those are my conditions, so you’re free to add your own."

"They’re all fine by me, but I ask that you’ll always grant me permission to touch you when I need your guide ability." Xavier requested. "Of course, I’ll just limit contact to us holding hands. We’ll do nothing more unless you’re fully willing to, ability or not."

It then clicked in her mind what this guide ability was exactly. She was in a freaking guideverse world! Suddenly all the crazy had an explanation. Even if she didn’t like it.

Of course that damn god just had to make her a guide instead of keeping her human...

At least we’re laying out terms... Freya sighed to herself. But I’m definitely going to need more information about this world before I make any more stupid decisions.

"Fine, I guess we can do that." Freya finally said. "Anything else?"

"Just not to go to the West Wing." Xavier stated, making Freya frown.

What is this? Beauty and the Beast... Freya thought to herself. I demand a library if it is.

"Can I ask why?" Freya asked aloud.

"My other brother Wilson lives there... He can be quite shy so doesn’t like strangers around his space." Xavier explained. "I’ll be sure to introduce you two some time, but for now just keep away unless he gives you permission."

"Got it." Freya nodded her head in understanding. "I take it the same goes for him?"

It was a simple enough request and Freya could respect someone’s personal space. As long as they did the same. Plus she didn’t want to see what Wilson did when someone trespassed.

The injuries on Ethan told her it wouldn’t be great.

"Yes." Xavier answered. "He won’t come to our side of the mansion without permission... I believe that’s it for me. Do you have anything else you wish to speak about?"

"We need a code word for that brother of yours." Freya stated. "That way I know it’s you and not an illusion."

Xavier blinked for a second, processing her words before he nodded his head in understanding. "Sure... Would ’spoon’ work?"

"Weird choice, but I guess that works." Freya mused. Better to keep the word random and easy to know.

Xavier then suddenly said, "If that’s everything, then I suppose we should head out when you’re done."
