Chapter 93: 93:A New Members In The Family

The journey back was calm and peaceful. Nothing dangerous happened on the way. In fact, it was more comfortable than Roland expected. People from the nearby villages came out of their homes just to greet him.

Some even brought small gifts or food. They had heard about what he did—how he helped the poor and shared food with the needy. His actions had won their hearts.

Wherever he passed, people stood on the side of the road, waving and shouting his name with respect. Roland didn’t show much expression. He simply nodded and raised his hand in return, but deep inside, he felt a quiet sense of responsibility.

Amelia wasn’t sitting inside the carriage. She rode a horse next to Roland. Her back was straight, and her face calm. She wasn’t the type to stay in the background. Even after everything she had gone through, losing her arm and retiring from active duty, she still carried herself like a soldier.

The wind blew gently through her hair as she looked at Roland. "Did you really distribute food to all of them?" she asked, her voice curious but steady.

Roland gave a small nod. His face was serious, and there was no hint of pride or happiness.

"I did," he said. "But it’s nothing to brag about. It’s something all nobles should be doing. Sadly, that fool of a king doesn’t even care."

Amelia turned her head slightly, watching the villagers lined up along the road. Many were giving salutes. Some of the younger ones even shouted his name like he was a hero.

"This must have cost you a lot," she said softly, turning back to Roland.

Roland let out a quiet breath. "It did," he replied. "I have money, sure, but even then, it drained a good part of my reserve. But what else could I do? I either had to use force or win their trust."

Amelia looked ahead, her eyes thoughtful. "I haven’t been retired for that long," she muttered, "but I don’t remember the kingdom being in such a bad state."

Roland didn’t answer right away. He looked up at the cloudy sky before speaking.

"It’s because of the Mana Crystal mines in the western region," he finally said. "Everyone wants a piece of it. That war... it broke many things."

Amelia had heard bits and pieces about it before. But now, seeing the result with her own eyes, she realized the damage was far worse than she thought. Villages were worn out. People were thin and tired. Children looked at travelers not with joy, but with hunger and need.

After that, the two of them didn’t say much.

They rode in silence, side by side.

Roland wasn’t in the mood to talk about meaningless things. He didn’t want to pretend or play games. Amelia understood. She respected his silence and didn’t force words.

They were both grown adults. They had seen life. They knew that actions spoke louder than words. Sincerity mattered more than sweet talk.

But before they reached the next village, Roland glanced at her and spoke again, informing about his family.

Amelia’s throat felt tight for a second, but she took a deep breath and looked away. She didn’t want to show too much emotion. Not now.

"Thank you," she said quietly.

Roland didn’t reply. He simply rode forward, keeping his eyes on the road.

The sky slowly cleared, and the soft warmth of the morning sun spread across the land. Behind them, the villagers still waved as the small convoy moved forward, leaving a trail of admiration and whispers in its wake.

They didn’t know where their path would lead next. But for now, they rode on in peace—two warriors who had seen too much of the world, now quietly trying to rebuild something in it. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

After a long journey, they finally reached home.

Word of their return had already spread, and Roland saw his wives and children gathered to welcome them. From his fifth child onwards, most were still toddlers. He saw Luke, Helio, Helina, Joel, Nina, and Mina waving excitedly and calling out, "Papa!"

Roland dismounted from his horse, smiling. Just as he was about to greet them, Nora and Noah ran out from the side and shouted, "Mama... I missed you!" Nil stood quietly, showing his maturity, while Hilda held back, her eyes focused but warm.

Janet looked at them and asked softly, "Did you two miss us?"

Nil smiled and replied, "Of course. How can there be a place better than home?"

Roland walked up to his wives — Janet, Priya, Leila, Jess, and Murphy — and hugged each of them gently. He smiled and asked, "Is everything well here? Was everything fine while I was gone?"

He then walked up to Priya, noticing how her belly had grown. His eyes softened as he touched her stomach and leaned in to kiss her. Priya blushed deeply but didn’t step away.

After that, Roland turned to introduce Amelia.

"Meet Amelia. She’s been injured, but don’t underestimate her. She’s my senior from the army. If not for the troubles she faced, she would have become a court mage."

Janet, being the head wife, stepped forward and greeted Amelia with a warm tone. "Welcome, Miss Amelia. Please feel at home. Anyone who fought beside Roland is already one of us."

The other wives gave a respectful bow. Amelia was slightly stunned by how coordinated and accepting they were. She looked around at the many children and let out a quiet sigh.

She had seen nobles with dozens of kids before, but in Roland’s case, she feared this might turn into a burden one day.

Still, she composed herself and bowed slightly to Janet. "I’ll be in your care," she said calmly.

Roland glanced at her expression and could already guess what she was thinking. But how could he explain? He couldn’t just say, the more children I have, the stronger my wife gets, could he?

Later, Roland called out to the teachers and staff, greeting them briefly. He gave instructions for arranging the rooms and preparing the new buildings. A separate building had already been built by clearing out a patch of farmland behind the mansion.

However, before Amelia could even step toward it, Janet held her hand and pulled her along toward the main mansion. She had already started calling Amelia "family," making Amelia flustered and a little embarrassed.
