Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime-Chapter 983 Safety_1
Chapter 983: Chapter 983 Safety_1
Purple Summers called Jane McCain, and it took a while for the call to be answered.
Jane’s voice was hoarse, as if she had been crying.
Purple carefully inquired about her situation and found out that Jane was now living with her mother, which somewhat reassured her.
"It’s good that your mom is with you; I was worried you were alone," Purple said. "You shouldn’t rush to go abroad now; just rest and recuperate for a while..."
Before Purple could finish, Jane suddenly raised her voice, "Go abroad?! I’m never going abroad again! I’m not going anywhere!"
Purple was stunned, "Janie..."
"Purple, can you believe it? He actually hid a razor blade in the towel!" Jane’s voice was ragged, torn between shock and anger, "If he had coaxed me into the bathroom, I would already have my throat slit and be lying in the bathtub waiting to die!... Liar, everything was fake! All a deception! Even his name was fake!..."
Her voice faded, sounding like she was crying, and after a moment the phone was handed to someone else. Ruby Spencer’s voice came through.
"Purple, Janie is a bit... a bit disturbed right now. I’ll let her call you back when she’s feeling better," she said.
Purple quickly responded, "That’s okay, Auntie, take care of Janie. If there’s anything I can do to help, just call me anytime."
"All right, thank you..."
After ending the call, Purple felt troubled.
She had been a prosecutor before and occasionally dealt with survivors like Jane McCain who had escaped death; usually, after the incidents settled, they would recover from the shock, realizing only later how terrified they had been. As for the psychological scars, it varied from person to person...
Purple sighed deeply in her heart.
From such a distance, she couldn’t help, and even though she could make phone calls, she wasn’t good at offering consolation.
She hoped that Jane could overcome the psychological effects of the incident.
...
Jane originally had an optimistic and lively personality and harbored romantic dreams about marriage like every girl. To think that the man she believed she loved turned out to be a murderer hugely affected her.
She seemed fine the night of the incident, but afterwards, she began to suffer from insomnia every night, and even when she did manage to fall asleep, she would have nightmares.
As Jane’s mother was a well-known designer with her own luxury brand, she was very busy with work, often staying up late drafting, and couldn’t be with Jane every moment.
Sometimes, just when Jane finally fell asleep, Mrs. McCain, Ruby Spencer, would go to her studio to work, only to be startled by Jane’s screams in the middle of the night.
After a few days like this, both mother and daughter were worn out.
Waking up from another nightmare, Jane wiped the cold sweat from her face and said to Ruby, "Mom, this can’t go on, I have to move out! Otherwise, I’ll go crazy!"
Jane now lacked a sense of security to the extreme; every time she closed her eyes, she would envision herself naked, soaked in bloody water, with a large gash slit across her throat, blood gushing out!
It was unbearably chilling!
"Where will you move to?" Ruby asked helplessly but also feeling pity for her daughter, "How about I ask Sister Peng to move upstairs to stay with you?"
Jane shook her head, her face pale. Now, apart from her own mother, whoever she saw seemed like a murderer to her!
Life is so unpredictable; if even a husband whom one loves can turn into a murderer, then what about the servants? The drivers? The chefs?
Jane dared not trust anyone anymore!
"I know Officer Jackson has a spare room; she would probably be willing to help me, it’s just a bit..." Jane hesitated, "a bit embarrassing..."
Ruby said, "Call her and ask first!"
It was embarrassing to impose on someone, but Jane was too frightened to manage on her own and just wanted to find a safe place where she could sleep soundly and peacefully.
Gathering her courage, Jane made a phone call to Aria Jackson—
"Jackson... Sister Jackson, are you still single?"
"What?" Aria Jackson was taken aback.
