Chapter 1040: Chapter 1040: Powerful Fist_1

Purple Summers left the rest area and went to see the judge in charge of the case, requesting to withdraw from the proceedings.

The reason was that the defendant had irreconcilable differences with her and took the opportunity to undermine her reputation.

Though the judge wasn’t interested in the gossip about the Simonson family, for the sake of ensuring a fair and serious trial, Purple Summers was indeed no longer suitable to continue defending Violet Nelson, so the judge granted her request.

After leaving the judge’s office, Purple Summers visited the hospital to see the old lady, and Alexander Summers came to pick her up and went with her.

Although their relationship with the old lady wasn’t good, she was taken to the hospital right in front of Purple Summers, so it seemed rather heartless not to visit.

On the way, Purple Summers asked Alexander how he had handled things.

Alexander casually said, "As long as it’s done."

His implication was, you don’t need to worry about how I did it.

Purple Summers glared at him irritably but was helpless.

The first time she went to the small store, she had felt something was amiss. The photo she showed to the store owner’s wife was of Violet Nelson wearing sunglasses and different clothes, yet the owner recognized her without hesitation, as if she had been waiting for this.

After returning, Purple Summers told Alexander about this, and they both felt something was fishy, so Alexander immediately sent someone to investigate.

His men were rough, they caught the store owner’s gambling-addicted husband at an underground gambling den, then dragged him to an uninhabited condemned house, beat him up, and slowly interrogated him until he confessed everything.

The results of the interrogation were quite interesting.

It turned out Violet Nelson had bribed the store owner’s wife well in advance.

Violet Nelson was generous with money, and for that couple, just saying a few words in court would earn them a large sum of money, which was like a pie falling from the sky, a bargain delivered to their doorstep, and they would be fools not to take it!

Alexander temporarily held the store owner’s husband.

Being a gambling addict, it was common for him to be away from home for days and nights at a time, so the owner’s wife was not at all suspicious.

On the day of the court hearing, the store owner’s wife asked Purple Summers for some money, and Purple Summers then sent a message to Alexander.

That 2,700 was not a remittance from Purple Summers at all, but the store owner’s husband had transferred his private savings over the years!

When the store owner’s wife saw the text reminder, she only knew that things had been settled and was too excited to check who the remitter was.

And when the prosecutor investigated the false testimony, once it was traced back to them, the store owner’s husband would tell the prosecutor that it was Violet Nelson who had used them to smear Purple Summers.

Violet Nelson probably didn’t know that when trying to make someone cooperative, sometimes a fist works better than money.

Alexander Simonson said to Purple Summers, "She’s been visiting the lumberyard intermittently for the past few days, and there’s an old surveillance camera at the entrance of the small store. She deliberately walked past the camera to leave herself an alibi."

Purple Summers suddenly realized, no wonder Violet Nelson was so confident.

It turned out that even if the witness recanted, there was still surveillance footage that could testify for her.

Alexander had a bad idea and suggested, "How about making that gambler delete the surveillance footage?"

"Don’t be ridiculous," Purple laughed, "intentionally destroying evidence is illegal."

"Are we just going to watch her be acquitted?" Alexander frowned. Without getting back at her properly, he couldn’t feel satisfied, but Purple repeatedly emphasized that he must not take action.

Purple explained, "I’m not trying to help her, I just don’t want Violet Nelson to take the fall for the real murderer."

The person who killed Lysander Russell should be someone else; if she and Alexander made Violet Nelson confess and go to jail, it would be like letting the true culprit go free, which was not at all a cause for celebration.

After thinking about it, Alexander concluded that an acquittal might be good after all, since Violet Nelson had completely alienated those in the Presidential Palace. The Nelson Family wouldn’t acknowledge her anymore, and without the protection of a family, it would be easy to deal with her later.

With different thoughts in mind, they temporarily dropped the topic of Violet Nelson.

The car arrived at the hospital, and Purple Summers and Alexander Summers approached the old lady’s ward, where they saw Christopher Simonson and Caitlin Carter with worried expressions.

"How is the old lady doing?" Purple Summers asked.
