Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime-Chapter 1037: No Grievances or Hatreds_1
Chapter 1037: Chapter 1037: No Grievances or Hatreds_1
The witness’s words fell, and the entire courtroom erupted into uproar.
Members of the jury looked at each other while everyone in the gallery whispered amongst themselves.
The judge struck the gavel forcefully, "Order! Order!" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
The scene finally quieted down, and a variety of looks fell upon Purple Summers, some skeptical, some inquisitive, some gleeful... Violet Nelson felt an indescribable delight.
She watched Purple Summers’s shock in her eyes and imagined how utterly panicked and bewildered Purple Summers must be feeling. Ah, there was nothing more wonderful than this!
The judge stared sternly at Purple Summers, "Defense lawyer, is what the witness has said true?"
Purple Summers, looking bewildered, replied, "I have never given her money, nor have I induced her to give false testimony. Under Article 307 of the Criminal Law, anyone who stops a witness from testifying or instructs others to give false testimony through violence, threats, bribery, etc., shall be sentenced to no more than three years of fixed-term imprisonment. Your Honor, I would never knowingly break the law. Why the witness would suddenly slander me, I also find strange."
The judge furrowed his brows deeply and struck the gavel again, "Court is adjourned; the next court session will be scheduled later. The defense lawyer is to be investigated immediately!"
With that, the judge left the courtroom in annoyance.
Purple Summers seemed to realize something and looked resentfully at Violet Nelson, "Was it you who did this?!"
Violet Nelson smiled disdainfully, "I don’t understand what you’re talking about."
"Come with me!" Purple Summers grabbed Violet Nelson and stormed into the lounge.
She slammed the door shut with a bang.
"You’re the one I was told to find, who else could it be but you?! Tell me! Did you instruct her to slander me?" Purple Summers was frantic, "Have you lost your mind?! Without an alibi, you might as well prepare to go to prison!"
"Who says I don’t have an alibi?" Violet Nelson sneered.
She should’ve kept her composure, but seeing Purple Summers so rare out of sorts, she couldn’t contain the elation in her heart and only wanted to crush her into the dust!
"Purple Summers, you’d better worry about yourself!" Violet Nelson’s eyes glittered with barely concealed triumph, "Instructing others to give false testimony carries a sentence of up to three years of imprisonment, not bad at all. Your lawyer’s license will probably be revoked, right? And the academy will expel you, right? Interesting, I’ll soon be acquitted, and you’ll be the one going to jail. Isn’t that interesting?"
Purple Summers looked at her in disbelief.
"Why?" Purple Summers genuinely didn’t understand, "Violet Nelson, I have no feud with you! Why would you do this to me?!"
"No feud? No grudge?" Violet Nelson laughed as if she’d heard the world’s biggest joke.
"When I went to Clearwater, I was originally meant to become allied with Graves Corporation through marriage. The second young master’s birthday reception was actually for me. But what did you do?! You upstaged me, making everyone revolve around you! In the end, the marriage alliance with the Graves family fell through. Ruining someone’s marital prospects, doesn’t that count as a grudge?"
Violet Nelson spoke of the past with teeth clenched in hatred, "And what did you do when you came to Kingsley? You became the president’s daughter! The Presidential Palace held a grand reception for you! What about me? What did I get? I spent over a decade in the president’s life, yet I didn’t compare to a newcomer like you! Even getting married, you had to step on me! Making me lose all face at the wedding reception! All this, doesn’t it count as a grudge?!!"
Purple Summers stared wide-eyed, "But I didn’t force you to set your wedding on the same day as mine..."
"It was you who forced me!" Violet Nelson raised her voice sharply, her expression turning fierce for a moment, "You were the one who booked the entire Heavenly Phoenix Palace for your wedding, what choice did I have?! Was I to wait until the end of the year and have people laugh at the comparison of our weddings?! Or should I have awaited ridicule, being only the president’s niece, never matching up to the president’s daughter?! Why should I always be one step below you?!!"
Upon hearing this, Purple Summers’s expression gradually calmed down, and she smiled lightly, "But you are just the president’s niece."
