Flirted Wrong, Married Right-Chapter 829: What Did He Come For?
Evelyn Clayton’s heart was racing.
She blankly put down the receiver, her expression quite serious.
Ignoring May’s inquiries, Evelyn went straight back to her office, locked the door, and called Little Lin.
Little Lin answered, his voice still sleepy, as if he had just woken up, "What’s up, sis?"
"Just now, that mysterious person who contacted me before seems to have called our company," Evelyn said solemnly. "I didn’t answer, but my assistant did."
Little Lin instantly perked up, "Did you call back?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Evelyn nodded, "The prompt said the number was nonexistent, which is why I’m suspicious."
"Looks like this person is quite skilled," Little Lin chuckled softly, "Interesting, Evelyn. They know your phone has anti-tracking software, so they’re trying to contact you this way to scare you."
Evelyn rubbed her brow, "I’m not scared. But if it’s really that person using the landline to contact me, how do we track his whereabouts?"
Little Lin said, "Have you checked your anti-tracking software?"
Only then did Evelyn react, and she opened the software on her phone for a look.
Everything displayed as normal.
She told Little Lin what the software showed. Little Lin pondered for a moment, "Sis, don’t worry just yet. The fact that he’s using a landline means our software worked — he’s scared! Think about it, you’re not always at the company. If he wants to reach you, he’ll have to call your personal phone!"
Evelyn nodded thoughtfully, "You’re right. But my biggest worry now is if he’s lurking around me, waiting for a chance to strike."
Evelyn wasn’t afraid of confronting this person head-on, but if he harbored malicious intent and acted suddenly from the shadows one day, she would be caught off guard...
She wasn’t afraid of dying; she was afraid that after her death, no one would continue the tasks she needed to complete.
"How about this, Evelyn, I suggest we hire a couple of private investigators," Little Lin said earnestly.
Evelyn was slightly puzzled, "Private investigators?"
"Yes! Although the profession isn’t exactly prestigious, their skills in anti-tracking are not necessarily inferior to professional police officers. They often take similar jobs. If you’re really worried about this person making a move against you, doing something harmful, let’s figure out a way to catch him!"
Little Lin’s suggestion was quite appealing to Evelyn.
However, she had never dealt with private investigators before, so she had some reservations.
So Evelyn thought for a moment and asked, "Do you have any suitable recommendations?"
Little Lin hesitated for a moment, "I know some, though I’ve just returned to the country, so I’m not sure if I can get in touch. Shall I give it a try?"
"Okay, then I’ll leave it to you." Evelyn sincerely thanked him, with a light sigh.
Little Lin joyfully replied, "No need to be so formal, Evelyn!"
Then, his tone took a slight turn, as he laughed, "But, hey, Evelyn, you trust me that much?"
There was something strange in his tone, and Evelyn found it a bit off-putting for a moment.
Just as she was about to speak, there was a gentle knock at the office door.
It was May.
Evelyn told Little Lin to hold on and let May in.
"What’s up?"
"Evelyn, Mr. Grant, who visited last time, is here again."
Evelyn was slightly taken aback.
James Grant? Why is he coming at this time?
